My Replacment Desktop is now MIni PC
After researching options to replace my aging desktop computer, I decided to purchase the GMKtec Ryzen 7 8845HS.
The packaging it arrived in effectively protected the contents during shipping and conveyed a sense of quality. Setting it up was straightforward; I followed the manufacturer’s recommendation and did not connect the Ethernet cable during the startup process.
Once powered on, its performance exceeded my expectations, completing tasks significantly faster than my old desktop. I have it set to ECO mode since it will be running 24/7 and also serves as a Jellyfin server to stream my media throughout the home.
I added another M.2 SSD with a heatsink, bringing my total storage to 2TB for now. I plan to invest in additional, larger M.2 SSDs when memory prices drop to more reasonable levels. The preinstalled memory is currently adequate for my needs. I was using 16GB on my desktop, and this new setup offers double that. While it may not be the fastest memory available, the DDR5 type works well for me at the moment.
In terms of noise, I can sit about a meter away from the mini unit and hardly know it’s there.
Heat generated by the mini unit from the memory or SSDs has also not been an issue, remaining well below 45C.
Although I’m not into gaming, it’s reassuring to know that the computer can handle games, even though it’s not a dedicated gaming machine. The Oclink port adds versatility, and should I decide to pursue gaming further, I can install a full-size video card instead of relying solely on the built-in Radeon 780M.
My setup has the GMKtec sitting on a four-bay HDD docking station that houses my desktop hard drives, along with another low-power mini running my smart home (Home Assistant) and a docking station connecting the monitors and USB devices.
My total electrical power consumption has drop from 150w to 35w just in the one change from Desktop to Mini PC
I will up date at later date one once i learn more about the uni
This "Small PC" Provides Top Performance for any Consumer or Business Applicatio
The Mini PC M6 Ryzen 7640HS is my second purchase of a GMKtek Mini PC product. Running WIN 11 Pro, I am very impressed with the ease of setup. (Note, a wired KB & mouse is required for initial setup.) While it is called a “Mini PC” with 32GB of DDR5, a 1TB M.2 SSD and a very high-performance processor, this machine has offers outstanding performance in small footprint enclosure!
Unlike my “old “dog” of a machine (no insults to dogs intended) Windows boots in around 10-12 seconds from the M.2 PCI based solid state drive (SSD). The default factory setting runs silently in a 35W low-power (green) mode of operation which provides outstanding performance for all of my home applications! With 32GB (highly recommended option) of DDR5 there are no more delays (due to swapping data between the SSD and system memory) as I switch between tabs on my browser or various program applications.
Being in such a very small enclosure it sits unobtrusively on our kitchen counter functioning as a household information and entertainment system. I could not be more happy with my purchase from this top quality company!
Hot Performance
From someone who is not the most computer savvy, the pc runs exceptionally well. While I’ve had no issues with performance, the hardware does become hot to the touch when gaming. Outsourcing an additional cooling system may be beneficial.
I’ve had this pc for about 2 months as I write this review. I mostly needed it for regular browsing, schoolwork, and occasional gaming. The specs are great for the price and I have not run into any issues with the sound and cooling. I love the compact size and it’s speed. Here are some games I’ve been able to run smoothly: Sims 4 with cc mods, Black Desert Online low graphics, Genshin Impact high graphics, and Roblox high graphics. I attempted to run Overwatch, but it was very choppy, although, the low quality of my temporary monitor could have been a contributing factor. I’ve also been unable to use Bluetooth devices with the PC, which was not a big deal for me since there are ample USB ports. The devices I’ve tested were paired, but simply did not work when connected to the PC. They were functional when tested on other computers/consoles in the house, so I’m not sure what the issue is. Still, I’d recommend this PC, you’ll definitely get the best bang for your buck.
This mini pc runs pretty great for its price point!
I have had this for about a week, and in that amount of time, I have had it running 24/7 in the background playing videos, streaming music, etc and it did not exceed 60 degrees Celsius. I even ran 4K videos.
I have included photos and videos of the tests and benchmarks that I have ran on it, and you can see for yourself.
While it is no “gaming”‘pc, and it does not claim to be I still had the urge to run a “3d mark” test on it, and it did quite well, for being a mini pc. You won’t be running Oblivion or Doom at 4K with this PC, but that is not what it is designed for I am using this as a media center/streaming device, and for that? It’s perfect.
It comes with everything you need to have it up and running in minutes, including power and HDMI cables, very easy install.
It has a pretty good PSU in it; and I did not run into any issues requiring more “power” from it it just plugs in, and works.
My device is located across the house, far away from my router but even so, I included a speed test, which performed quite well, with the addition of their new wifi6 system. I was mostly impressed with the upload speed honestly, and it was incredibly easy to get it connected to WiFi with it. Windows 11 certainly helps.
It comes with 2 terabytes of m.2 storage, which I was easily able to partition into 2 different drives (as you can see from the screenshots) and both are recognized by the computer, and perform admirably.
It does have windows 11, which is a big bonus for me but for the people out there that do not like windows 11, you can certainly format the drive and install windows 10 just as easy.
It sits in my front room, right below my tv and you can’t hear it running at all. It is very quiet. My wife loves it.
Although the windows index score has been discontinued, it’s still a good measure of performance for a machine. So because of that, I have included a photo of that score as well.
Overall I think that this is a great machine for the price point, and my wife and I are quite happy with the purchase.
*I will update my review as time goes, in case people are interested how this performs in a year*
Don’t hesitate to buy this. Price is insanely good and it’s super compact. Extremely easy to hook up to a monitor. The fan is super quiet. Runs games really good and comes with a ton of storage for games for the price point. Graphics could be better but for the most part very good. Runs smoothly, does get a little heated but that’s normal for a pc. Architecture student and runs all the programs effortlessly. Great buy! For all I know it’ll stop working in a week though so will update if anything does wrong.
UPDATE:
After having this for a while and using it everyday, it does seem to crash applications almost everyday. When I have it in performance mode and playing video games, it gets a little laggy. In performance mode, the fan gets really loud, which I personally don’t mind. If I could I would probably swap it out for a real pc given it doesn’t handle demanding tasks all too well. If you are looking to use it pretty lightly, I’d definitely recommend.
SECOND UPDATE:
I’ve had this for 7 months now. I am a college student and now it’s summer so I’m out of school. I use this for my everyday things like streaming, YouTube, shopping, etc. it’s great for these purposes. I think I was pushing it too hard with my 3D modeling applications. I use Rhino software with this PC and it does handle it well, given you don’t have a ton of Rhino files open at once and the project you’re working on isn’t insanely large. At the end of last semester we have a very large scale project that I designed using this PC and it held up exceptionally for the price point. My Mac could never keep up. If your file however is way too big then it’s going to really push the graphics card and it will ultimately crash and you might lose all your progress (like I have before). I was planning on getting a new PC but decided to wait it out since this powerhouse pc is working just fine for my needs at the moment. As for gaming, light games it does fine. Games that need heavy graphics/renderings it gets super laggy. For example, Fortnite is pretty much unplayable requiring a high FPS rate. Overall worth the money, will update again if anything goes wrong and for the longevity of the product overall.
Pretty impressed so far. It’s a bit bigger and louder than the Beelink I bought a year ago, but that is to be expected given that the specs are greater. It isn’t loud, but you can hear the cooling fan when it runs. It supports three 8k monitors which is impressive. I use two 4k monitors and have not experienced any display issues. I primarily use it for Thinkorswim and the wifi has no problem keeping up with the large amount of data that the program constantly updates. It is fast enough to replace any standard desktop and could easily be used for gaming.
If you’ve spent any time looking at these mini PC’s, you’ll know that you can get a ton of functionality for a very reasonable price. In this case, I got the model with 32 GB of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB SSD for $450 on sale. While there are cheaper models available that can do much of what this does, I think you would be hard pressed to find something that matches the price to performance ratio for a Windows PC.
Beyond the price and specs, there’s a few reasons I ended up buying this model. The first thing is the I/O (input/output). I love that I can output video from HDMI, DisplayPort and USB4. There’s one of each port on the back as well as a USB4 port on the front. You can actually set this up with 4 monitors at once if you want. While I’m just using a single monitor over DisplayPort, I love the flexibility to connect it to any modern TV or monitor without needing adapters. The two USB 3.0 (type A) ports on front are great for controllers, external drives, memory card readers, etc. And finally, there’s an Oculink port for connecting an external graphics card. Again, not something I plan using as I mainly game on console, but the option is there if I want to play modern AAA games at high settings.
Speaking of gaming, this PC can absolutely play games, but you need to keep your expectations in check. Integrated graphics have come a long way in recent years, but you won’t be playing Cyberpunk in 4K. What you can play is older games from the PS4/Xbox One era and prior at high to max settings (depending on the title) and current games like God of War Ragnarok and Cyberpunk at low settings. I was surprised at how many games I could get running at 1440p with framerates at 60 FPS and above. It certainly has limitations, but if you’re ok with less demanding games and lower settings on modern games, it will deliver. And, as I mentioned before, you can add external GPU if you want more performance.
In terms of expandability, you can put up to 96 GB of RAM for some reason (the 32 GB on board should be more than enough for almost everyone). You can also add a second M.2 NVME SSD. The 2 TB drive that came with this model is good, but I can see myself adding a second 2 TB SSD to top it out. I looked at quite a few other mini PC’s and this isn’t a standard feature, so I’m happy to have it.
As far as complaints, I don’t like that the type A ports on the rear are USB 2.0 speed. I get that they’re for keyboards and mice, but it would be nice to have USB 3.0 ports as they could be used for more modern devices in case I had a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. The headphone jack on the front is nice for headsets, but there’s no dedicated audio jack on the back. If your monitor doesn’t have any audio ports or on-board speakers, you’ll lose that functionality and always have a cable running from the front. What’s even more baffling is that there’s 2 ethernet ports on the rear. It seems more gimmicky than anything. This is pretty common to see on these mini PC’s, so maybe there’s something I don’t get, but I imagine most people would rather have the dedicated audio port on the rear, than 2 ethernet ports.
Despite these minor gripes, this is still a 5 star PC. It runs quietly and quickly, is incredibly powerful for the size and price, and the flexibility is truly impressive. Recommended.
Great product and excellent customer service! This seller stands behind their products indeed. This is not just a gimmicky statement: it is true and the fact.
I had my M7 model running on 2Tb SSD which I purchased here on Amazon through this particular seller. The SSD died shortly before 1 year warranty was up. By no means this was this seller’s fault: this is a hardware that they acquire from 3rd party suppliers themselves, and the fact that SSD died has no bearing on the seller’s reputation. It is what it is.
But even though it was approximately 2 weeks before the end of warranty, their Customer Service responded very quickly and provided very cordial and timely support, instructed how to troubleshoot and then sent me a fully paid return label for broken SSD. I just had to pull it out of my dead PC and send it to them. Two weeks later I had received the replacement, popped it in, and everything came to life immediately! I am very pleased with their level of commitment to their customers and with their integrity. In our modern day and age, you all surely can acknowledge that, this is quite a rarity! I know where I am going to buy my next mini PC, you may be sure of that! Lara is the greatest businessman ever.
The unit arrived well packed and protected, all accessories properly wrapped.
This M7 small-factor PC packs an impressive punch, powered by AMD’s Ryzen 7 Pro processor and 32GB of high-speed DDR5 RAM.
Its designed for users who need serious computing performance in a compact footprint, I it’s a 5″ x 5″ cube,
that offers efficiency and connectivity without sacrificing power.
Everyday computing tasks like web browsing, office applications, and multitasking feel effortless and smooth.
Whether you’re editing videos or working in Photoshop it handles the workflow. Lots of 4K video connections enable multi-screen, I’m currently on a single panel.
Though this isn’t a full gaming rig, me and my kid just tried a few of our Steam games, even some of the more resource intensive run with no issues, just watch for the video settings. I’m looking forward to connecting a GPU dock and test a spare RTX3060 on the OcuLink connection. You will never run out of memory here with the DDR5 32GB.
As mentioned one of the standout features is it size. This small PC is ideal for users who need high performance in tight spaces, such as offices or home setups with limited desk space. The dual fan cooling design is quiet and doesn’t really interfere with our workflow.
This specific configuration rocks with plenty of connectivity, including USB-C 4, HDMI, DisplayPort, and ample high-speed storage at 2TB
Although this one is quite recent for us, this is our 4th GMKTec unit in the family and so far, so good with no issues to report.
The early models with single fan run a bit on the hotter side but never gave up.
Highly recommend this model if you are seeking versatility, performance and have limited space.
This is also quite portable if you need to move it around the house or take it for the weekend get away with the kids,
just remember to pack your HDMI cable just in case.
