I have five cameras, both Nikon and Fuji, and lots of lenses so I can honestly compare this to quality “glass”. I don’t use a super wide angle often but do like one from time to time. For my limited use I did not want to put a thousand dollars in a super wide angle but I also didn’t want to buy some lame manual focus distortion riddled low end piece either.
I researched this lens and sifted through many hands on tests by professionals and amateurs alike. Several of he reviewers had side-by-side shots comparing this lens to the “high priced spread” including Fujis own lenses. It seemed all agreed: This thing’s performance is unreal compared to its price. I personally tested it doing duplicate shots comparing it to my 11-20 “T” brand lens that cost three times as much. It was amazing to see it outperform the much more expensive lens.
I used a test card I have made for checking scanners. It has lots of variations to look for both image quality and color definition. This lens easily tested as the better lens when shooting super wide angle. Now, to be fair, many, myself include, have gravitated to zoom lenses as a way to get more versatility in framing our shots. And with today’s tech there are some good zoom lenses out there. But the simple truth is, every zoom is a compromise. If you really want maximum performance its hard to beat a fix focal length lens. Its vastly easier to engineer and build a fixed lens and this lens really proves that point.
I looked hard at the edges of photos while testing. While my higher priced lens would show distortions and color fringing on the edges, this lens did vastly better. It was amazing to see the difference. Center sharpness is great on both but as you move out from the center this lens is clearly superior.
Yes this lens looks and feels a bit lower priced compared to the lovely OEM lenses. But “don’t judge the book by looking at its cover”. This lens shines where it counts: producing good images. Its small and light and on my Fuji X-H2s it makes a perfect setup for doing interiors, at the museum, whenever the situation calls for a ultra wide angle “fast” lens. I am very happy with the value of this lens and will be keeping an eye out for future picks from this company.
Love this for landscape photography—also super fun shooting people with a flash, it has that ’90s–2000s skate culture vibe. Very sharp, I can’t stop using it. The fisheye look is not at all too warped—for $200, it’s a real steal. It’s not weather-sealed, so don’t go shooting in the rain without covering it up and keep it out of humidity for extended periods (obviously).
I’m glad I took a chance on it; it makes me want to shoot something every day. Love the results, especially for the price!
200% value for money. Great built with a good quality photo. of course, 9mm lens has some issues with shape and dark corners. But it is just 199 for 9mm F2.8. I don’t have any complaints
