Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersUpdated review-After taking this out a few times, I rate it 'excellent' for quality and value!
I’m updating this bargain lens to five stars, now that I’ve taken more photographs with it. This wide angle for less than $200 is perfect for my needs. Eliminates me having to do multiple shots with a 28mm lens and stitch them together. You can see a little aberration at the edge. Plus with a protective filter it encroaches on the corners. But that is minor.

Update-12dec2025 – I finally took this lens out for a test run. I am amazed at how much more of the scenery I can capture in one shot, versus stitching two shots together when using my 28-70mm lens.

However, I’ve noticed three things, which are NOT a dealbreakers-

    1. My camera’s autofocus does not lock onto the subject as well, at night, regardless of the mode (center, zone or point focus). Sometimes it just won’t lock on. I have to go into manual mode.

    2. I noticed a dark area in the corners of the frame. Realized that because of its great wide angle, the rim of the protective filter that I immediately put on the lens, is what is obscuring that part of the picture frame. Which means I have to remove the filter, or I will have to crop a little bit.

    3. As stated this lens is NOT weather seals, so I carry a protective cloth, which I keep covering the lens with when I am out in inclement weather.

Other than that, it is very lightweight and does a decent job. Here are a few shots I did with it today on a wet rainy day.

My main lens is a 28-70mm Sony. However, I have always having to stitch two images together to get the angle wide enough. This Viltrox at less than $200, was rated highway on you tube for its value. So I purchased it on sale here at Amazon for about $160, which left me enough money to by a sky filter and a metal hood and keep the price less than $200. It is F4, so it is not meant to be great for indoor shots. But I will shoot outdoors today.

So far, I’m pretty satisfied with it for indoor shooting.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGreat lens capable of beautiful photos, ok auto focus
I want to start out saying that this is an excellent lens for the money. This lens is capable of very sharp photo’s with great color reproduction. That said I did find that the auto focus could be hit and miss especially in lower light conditions.

I went a head and did a replacement and just got the replacement today so I will definitely update this post if needed. Maybe the replacement lens will have better auto focus, or a firmware update will be available soon to address that but wen auto focus works its great. I actually love the lens. I will attach some photos taken with the original lens. The bokeh is OK, I’ve noticed that its scene specific. Using this lens on my Sony a6400.

La resa a tutta apertura , secondo me, davvero molto buona e omogenea.

Super consigliato!

    English version

I needed a compact and easy-to-carry medium telephoto lens, and I decided to go for the Viltrox AF 85mm F/2 Evo.

This wasn’t a random choice: I already own two lenses from the Viltrox Air series, the 35mm f/1.7 and the 15mm f/1.7, and I’ve been extremely satisfied with their performance and image quality.

The EVO line sits between the more affordable Air series and the professional Pro series. It offers many of the controls and part of the build quality of the Pro lineup, but at a much more accessible price.

The packaging is a well-protected, sturdy box containing the warranty, the lens, the lens hood, and a soft velvet pouch for carrying it around.

Build quality is immediately noticeable: the metal body feels solid, and the presence of O-rings provides resistance against dust and light rain.

Its 340g weight balances perfectly on my Sony a6700, and even during longer shooting sessions I never felt any fatigue.

The focus ring and aperture ring are smooth and precise, allowing for very fine adjustments.

The lens controls are conveniently placed and easy to access. Specifically, you get:

    An AF/MF switch

A customizable function button (configurable from the camera menu)

A click/de-click switch for the aperture ring, especially useful for video work

There’s also a USB-C port for firmware updates.

I tested this lens in several demanding situations: evening shots, backlighting, and rapidly changing light conditions.

I purposely avoided using flash or a tripod to recreate “uncomfortable” shooting conditions and see how the lens would really perform.

The results honestly surprised me — this lens handles virtually any photographic scenario and never showed the slightest uncertainty, even in difficult lighting.

Autofocus is fast and very accurate, fully compatible with all the advanced AF features of my camera.

Chromatic aberration is practically nonexistent, even in strong backlight, and I didn’t notice any significant distortion.

Aperture ranges from f/2 to f/16, and the sweet spot sits between f/4 and f/5.6, exactly as the manufacturer states.

The minimum focusing distance is about 0.70 m, but in practice this is just a technical detail: the real highlight here is the incredible sharpness.

You can crop images at 100% without losing detail, which will definitely please macro lovers who don’t yet have a dedicated lens, or anyone who likes to recompose later in post-production.

On APS-C it becomes roughly a 127mm equivalent, which I find ideal for many genres: distant street shots, portraits with great background compression, and even small wildlife thanks to its excellent sharpness.

The bokeh is soft and creamy, making it easy to create a strong separation between subject and background.

Wide-open performance is, in my opinion, very good and consistent.

I didn’t notice any focus breathing during still photography.

I couldn’t find any real flaws. If I had to mention a couple of personal preferences, I would have liked the function button to be slightly larger and not rubberized.

I also wish the aperture ring’s transition from “A” mode to manual had a bit more resistance, but again, this is purely subjective.

In conclusion, I’m genuinely very satisfied with this purchase. For just over 300, you get a high-quality prime lens with impressive optical performance. Highly recommended!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersPerfect for content creators! (IG: @only4bre TT: @bredigital)
This lens is worth the hype, I used it on my Sony ZV-E10 and the results were breathtaking. I film fashion, beauty, and skincare content on my instagram (@only4bre) & TikTok (@bredigital) and the quality is insane! The photos are absolutely incredible, I love the way it captures colors and when paired with my Ulanzi flash it’s truly an unstoppable force. Sometimes you can hear the hum of the autofocus but I don’t mind it too much, the lens is pretty lightweight but I wouldn’t consider it compact compared to the kit lens. Super easy to use and perfect if you don’t have much space when filming sit down videos because of the wide angle but it doesn’t have that fisheye effect either!

    Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersViltrox 15mm, 85mm f2, 50 1.4 Pro
    I purchased the viltrox 15mm 1.7, 85mm f2 FE, and 50 1.4 Pro FE.

Viltrox 15mm 1.7: Great lens, fantastic for the price, great quality! Sharp enough for my needs and lightweight. Great walk around wide lens and great for night time. Great for vlogging. I watched YouTube reviews on it which were favorable, I’m happy with my purchase.

Viltrox 85mm f2 EVO FE (photo of girl in skates)

Heavier with superior build quality than the 15 & 56. Decently sharp lens. Bokeh is nice and smooth. Autofocus is fast and silent. Great value for the price as is the same for all viltrox lenses.

Viltrox 50mm 1.4 Pro FE. (Boy in red shirt photos).

I upgraded my camera body from a6400 to a7vi so I needed a 50mm. WOW. Amazing build quality and weather sealing. At f1.4 with eye tracking my camera was nailing the focus. Mild vignetting, slightly prone to ghosting/flaring with strong backlighting, but the bokeh is very dreamy. Less than 1/2 the cost of the Sony 50 GM 1.4 it performs VERY well period. So far I’m very happy with my purchase, I think this will stay on my camera most of the time. Now I’m considering adding the viltrox 35mm LAB.

Great inexpensive full frame prime lense
I wanted to add in a 50mm prime to my lens options for my full frame. After much research I settled on this. For the price it’s great! Images are pretty sharp and clear, autofocusing is quick and sure. I’ve mostly shot stills so can’t speak to video yet. There was a small amount of lense distortion but I was able to correct in post.

Golden Review Award: 1 From Our UsersGreat Affordable Ultra-Wide Lens for Tight Spaces
I originally purchased the Viltrox 14mm F4 last minute for a real estate shoot because my 24-70mm wasn’t wide enough for some of the interior spaces. It ended up being a great purchase.

At 14mm, I’m able to capture significantly more of a room while still getting images that look natural when composed properly. I’ve since used it for real estate photography, product shoots in tight spaces, wide establishing shots, and even filming workouts in my small garage gym.

Autofocus has worked well with my Sony camera, image quality has been impressive for the price, and the lens is compact enough that it’s easy to keep in my camera bag.

If you’re looking for an affordable ultra-wide Sony E-mount lens, especially for real estate, interiors, content creation, or situations where you can’t move the camera farther back, this is an easy lens for me to recommend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersVery impressive, sharp with dreamy bokeh
This is my 4th viltrox lens and 1st of their pro level lenses. I have their 15 1.7, 56 1.7, 85 2.0 EVO, and recently purchased the 56 1.2 Pro to go with my Sony a6400.

The my cheaper viltrox 56 1.7 was good, but the bokeh was not as dreamy as what I’m used to coming from Nikon full frame 85mm lens. I was considering giving up on Sony crop body when I found video reviews of the viltrox 56 1.2 with comparisons to the sigma 56. In tests of sharpness, vignetting, chromatic aberration, the viltrox performed very well. The viltrox has excellent build quality and optical performance. Focus hunting was ok. Lens is very sharp at all distances. The bokeh is really why I bought this lens and it delivers. Built quality and weather sealing are very impressive. One interesting note: i was already warned in video reviews that there is a moving element within the lens that slides front to back when you tilt the lens. I don’t notice anything when I’m shooting, but when you’re holding the lens don’t worry if you feel it. Overall I’m impressed and happy with my purchase!
