This is an awesome little Bluetooth speaker!
I have loved all of my Skullcandy items and this one is no exception. It has so many great features my other Bluetooth speakers don’t have so it’s clear they thought of practical uses when designing it. The color is true to the photos and it feels big enough to be durable and sturdy but small enough to travel easy.
It connected easily to my phone and the sound quality is crisp and good for its size.
I love the loop on the back which makes it excellent for hanging on hooks but also has a super cool magnet on the back which makes it so versatile to attach to various items!
It was fairly easy to use and includes easy to understand instructions for what buttons do what.
It charges easily and holds battery for a good amount of time.
I think it’s a really nice speaker for the price.
I was actually, genuinely impressed with this speaker.
At first glance I didnt truly expect this to be worth its price tag, but I think I can safely say that it is.
It’s “sound per pound” so to speak was shocking, as cheesy as that sounds it genuinely surprised me. The speaker is primarily focused in one direction, out the top, but it does have slits in the bottom of the case that give it a passable “360” sound affect. You can tell its weaker on the sides but only when right next to it. It does do a really great job of filling the room with sound. Its loud enough to easily fill a bedroom or a living room, it’s not gonna run a party outdoors but for small gatuer
The quality is great for a small speaker. It handles the highs well. There are certain low bass frequencies it can’t hit at all. The speaker just drops the sound, however I only noticed the cut out with SUPER bass heavy songs like bass boosted electric house. From what I can tell, this speaker lacks any sort of dedicated subwoofer (like most small ones), so failing to hit the bass isjt an issue of low quality speaker coils, merely the lack of a dedicated low end sub.
I don’t own a second one but it says they can be linked(up to 99 speakers apparently). Two of these speakers working in tandem would be quite a capable low end sound system. It will never compete with a wired sound system, but for portable, battery powered speakers of this size, I doubt you could do much better.
The waterproofing leaves something to be desired. IP67 waterproofing is only rated for brief spills or short immersion. Its rated for about 3 feet of fresh water for 30 minutes only. Its less “waterproof” and more water resistant. Despite what they show in the advertisement, this speaker would not hold up to long term submersion and probably shouldn’t even be used in a shower.
In fairness to skull candy, this is basically industry standard, and I will say their dust proofing is a great addition that a lot of speaker manufacturers haven’t caught up with yet.
The fall protection is also, frankly, lacking. I typically drop test products that have shock proofing but this one is so short its not worth the effort. Its drop rated to 1 meter (about 3.3 feet), this is right at the height of most adults hands when held at their sides. So anytime youre holding the speaker higher than your pants pockets(which will be all of the time), its outside of its drop rating.
The strap on the back is pretty cool, it has a groove built into the speaker chassis that makes it readily mountable to poles or bike handlebars.
The magnet works juuust well enough. I wouldn’t call it strong, but it keeps the speaker in place despite the vibration (and it vibrates a lot at volume, itll shake items on unstable tables).
I dont love the app, its manageable but it asks for far more permissions than it should. The default voice for connection announcements is annoying and the sounds you can change it to it not much better. Its kind of jarring. The bass boost works fine, it doesnt make that much of a difference due to physical limitations but it gives you a little more.
I ran the speaker loudly for a couple hours and it only lost a few percentages of the battery, so I do believe its truly 20 hours worth of playtime. The Bluetooth is really solid and stayed connected from anywhere in my home, regardless of which floor I was on.
Also the box is pretty cool looking. Its good packaging for a gift if thats something you care about.
$50 is a lot of money, but if youre looking for a rechargable, small sized speaker, I have yet to see better. Theres better options out there for fixed, stationary plug in speakers, but for a portable speaker this would be very hard to beat.
This little speaker packs a lot of punch! It’s quite compact – fits in the palm of your hand – and only weighs about half a pound. A lot of thought must have gone into the form factor… and much of that, as with most compact speakers, is likely concerned with the bass.
It’s kind of amusing in the specs that the frequency response is listed as 20kHz, giving a top end and no low end measurement. It sounds like the speaker drops off somewhere around 125Hz, giving decent mid-bass and a hint of the lower end. With the included bass boost, however, that bass becomes much more pronounced and helps to give a fuller sound. Also worth noting is that the speaker sounds great off-axis; I presume that’s where the “360” in the name comes from. And it’s loud! Definitely fills a small to medium-sized room and is quite loud for nearby outdoor listening.
One feature that I thought was a bit of a gimmick but I actually *love*, is that the backside of the unit is magnetic, allowing it to stick to nearly any metal surface. There’s also a (somewhat) elastic strap that can be used to strap the speaker to anything that’s not wider than it is, and without much depth. Like your belt, for example.
The speaker is shock and waterproof, and the battery can last up to 20 hours, probably less with bass boost engaged. I have not used the speaker until the battery died; it’s simple enough to recharge with a USB-C port, I just charge it when convenient.
In addition to bass boost, there are a number of onboard features which are quite cool, including different EQ settings and the ability to link multiple speakers (stereo or multi-speaker party modes). There’s also an app that allows control of the unit, and unlocks custom EQ settings.
All together this is a great sounding and versatile little device, perfect for bringing on a trip, or outside for a party. Highly recommended!
I picked up this Skullcandy Session 360 speaker in the Cement color for a bunch of different uses around the house and outdoors, and it has easily exceeded my expectations across the board.
We’ve used this in almost every scenario imaginable:
-Connected to our outdoor projector for movie nights and sporting events in the yard.
-Hooked up to my computer so I can hear remote work meetings while stepping away to grab coffee.
-Strapped into my 8-year-old’s Power Wheels car so he can cruise the neighborhood blasting his favorite songs (the neighbors get a huge kick out of it!).
-Paired with my phone while out on our boat, which doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth capabilities.
In every single case, the Bluetooth connection established instantly with zero fuss, and the sound distribution and volume were fantastic for such a compact speaker.
The “Cement” gray color is great, it looks sharp without being flashy, and it doesn’t show dirt or smudges easily. My favorite feature by far is the built-in stretchable strap. I use it on the boat to strap the speaker down so a sudden wave or bump won’t send it swimming overboard. While I haven’t intentionally tested the waterproof rating, having that extra security (and the ability to strap it onto almost anything) makes it stress-free to use around water, on the lawn, or on the go.
It’s rare to find a compact speaker that checks this many boxes for sound quality, ease of use, and rugged practicality. I am thrilled with this purchase and would buy a second one without hesitation, either as a gift or to permanently leave on our boat!
My favorite thing about this is how easy it is to use.
There aren’t 50 different buttons to learn. You’ve got on/off, volume, song skips, and a couple of alt button presses if you hold a button.
It pairs very easily. I’ve had some bluetooth devices that seem to be real hit or miss about when they want to pair or re-pair and connect… but this one worked first try and I’ve had no issues reconnecting since.
I like that it gives little voice commands when you hit things (“Power on”, “bass boost on”, “bass boost off”). I hate when I’ve got a device where I can’t figure out if it’s on or off or if a mode is enabled; no such issues with this speaker.
Charging is super easy. It comes with a cord (no box), though the cord is very short. But that’s no problem because it’s the standard type of plug that every phone uses nowadays so I can just use my longer phone cord. It charges fast and has an indicator light.
The sound is good for it’s size. It’s not like it can project to an entire gymnasium or outdoor park or whatever, but for using around the house, or in a backyard, or just near one soccer goal or basketball hoop, it’s been just fine.
The “ruggedness” of it is nice too. It feels solid and while I’m not going to purposely throw it around, it feels like it could take a fall. Though with the grippy outer shell, I’m not too worried about it slipping out of my grip.
The strap, the magnet, and the waterproof/floating nature of it are gimmicks for me that I personally don’t plan on using, but I still think it’s a great speaker for it’s size and price.
This is a really nice little Bluetooth speaker for everyday use. I’ve been using it for background music and it does a good job for that. The sound quality is clear and enjoyable at normal listening levels, and it’s plenty loud enough for casual use, while having a good battery life as I usually have it one for most of my workday and usually don’t have to charge it for a couple of days.
I like the compact size because it’s easy to take with you without having to carry around a larger speaker. It’s a good option for using around the house, at a desk, or taking along when you’re heading out. The orange color also helps it stand out and has been a point of conversation for people who’ve seen it.
I wouldn’t necessarily choose a speaker this size if my goal was to fill a large space with music at high volume, but for everyday listening and portability, it works really well.
This is a solid little Bluetooth speaker that’s convenient, easy to use, and delivers good sound for its size.
