TECHCHAO Portable Range Hood for Close-Range Tabletop Cooking
Designed for Hot Pot, Skillets and Electric Tabletop Grills
This portable kitchen exhaust fan offers three speed settings with airflow up to 80 CFM to help capture visible cooking smoke near a single smoke source. Operating noise reaches up to 65 dB at the highest setting. Use it for hot pot, skillet cooking and electric tabletop grilling in apartments, RV kitchens and other small spaces. It is not intended to replace a full-size externally vented range hood.
Position the Intake Close to the Smoke Source
Works Best 4–8 Inches from Rising Smoke
Place the intake beside the cookware, aim it toward the rising smoke plume and switch the unit on before cooking. Close placement helps this portable range hood for cooking capture smoke more effectively. For large pots, multiple pans, heavy deep-frying or high-volume stir-frying, a full-size externally vented range hood is recommended.
Multi-Stage Grease and Odor Filtration
PVC, Metal Grease and Activated Carbon Filters
The PVC pre-filter helps catch larger grease droplets, the washable metal grease filter helps trap airborne grease, and the replaceable activated carbon filter helps reduce cooking odors. Filtered air is recirculated back into the room without external ductwork. The detachable oil cup collects grease for easier maintenance.
The package includes 2 metal grease filters, 7 activated carbon filters and 3 PVC pre-filters in total.
Flexible AC or USB-C Power
Use the Included Adapter or a Compatible 12V/2A Power Bank
Connect the included AC adapter for everyday indoor use or power the unit from a compatible USB-C power bank capable of providing DC 12V/2A output. The power bank is not included, and compatibility may vary by power source. The unit has no built-in battery and must remain connected to a power source during operation. It is not cordless or rechargeable.
Simple Filter and Oil-Cup Maintenance
Wash Reusable Filters and Replace the Carbon Filter
Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before cleaning. Empty and wipe the detachable oil cup, then wash the PVC pre-filter and metal grease filter and allow both parts to dry completely before reinstallation. Replace the activated carbon filter when needed. Do not rinse the activated carbon filter or the main unit.
Compact Countertop Range Hood
Only 6.5 Inches Wide
The compact housing measures 9 inches deep × 6.5 inches wide × 15 inches high, helping it fit on countertops with limited space. The 5.28-inch intake opening faces the cooking source for close-range capture. After the unit has cooled and been cleaned, its narrow design allows for easier storage in apartments, rentals and RV kitchens.
Portable Kitchen Exhaust Fan for Small Spaces

TECHCHAO Portable Range Hood for Close-Range Tabletop Cooking

For Electric Cooking and Single-Pan Gas Stovetop Use
Use this portable range hood beside hot pots, electric tabletop grills, skillets or a single pan on a gas stovetop. For gas cooking, place the unit beside the cookware rather than directly above the burner. Keep the housing, air intake, power cord, adapter and external power source away from open flames, hot surfaces and direct heat.
This product is designed for close-range smoke and odor reduction and is not intended for multiple burners, commercial cooking or heavy high-volume frying.

Helps Keep Cooking Odors Under Control
I used this portable range hood while cooking at my kitchen counter, and it helped reduce smoke and lingering food odors. The three speed settings are useful because I can keep it quiet for light cooking or increase the airflow when frying. I especially like the compact size and USB C power option since it is easy to move around and store when I am finished. The filters are simple to remove, although cleaning them regularly is necessary to maintain good airflow. It cannot replace a full size vent hood for heavy cooking, but it works well for hot pot, grilling, and smaller meals. Overall, it is a convenient option for apartments, dorms, or kitchens without built in ventilation.
Quieter than Expected
The first think you notice when opening the box, is that this is big. It can fit on a counter, but if you’re storing it between uses, it takes up a lot of space. The next thing I noticed was the aesthetics. It resembles classic barware from decades past. I like how it looks. The included USB C cable is nice and long, so it is easy to place this exactly where you need it.
The manual is pretty informative, particularly in ensuring you put the filters in the correct order. I opened the extra bags before checking, so it would have been nice if the included bags were labeled as spares. There is a full set of filters already installed.
It takes a bit of time to get up to speed. Once you turn it on, you need to wait a bit for it to come up to the speed you want. I noticed on the lowest setting, there is not a lot of suction, yet the output is pretty substantial. Even on low, this can double as a fan in a pinch.
After initially thinking that the LED lights were about ambiance, I discovered they represented different speeds. I’m not sure if there’s a significance between the blue and green, but it was good to discover the functionality. On high speed, this moves a lot of air. Even at the highest speed, it is still pretty quiet. I ran through the power settings on the included video.
I got this primarily for clearing the smoke while deep frying chicken wings, since we cook those pretty far from our oven range hood. This is a great size to do just that. The grease catcher will also be particularly useful for that use case. I am thinking I might use this both in the kitchen and in my shop though, to clear out smoke as I work on craft projects. I think this is going to be a pretty versatile addition to my kitchen and shop combined.
I am pretty happy with the power and portability. I think it is a bit big, but I think that it’s worth it. At over $80 it might be a bit pricey, but you do get quite a bit for the money. I think it is worth your consideration.
Review cooking odors as advertised, with the investme
This portable range hood with a carbon filter exceeded my expectations. The first thing I noticed was its size; it’s much larger than I expected and that gives it a sturdy, well-built feel with a nice amount of weight. The construction feels solid, and it’s easy to position wherever extra ventilation is needed.
One of my favorite uses for it is indoor table top Korean barbecue and Japanese shabu shabu . I can set up the pot and grill right on the countertop and enjoy cooking at the table without worrying nearly as much about the entire house smelling like barbecue afterward. While it doesn’t eliminate every odor, it makes a very noticeable difference.
In terms of performance, it does an impressive job of reducing cooking odors throughout the house. It’s not magic and won’t remove 100% of the smell, but I was genuinely surprised by how much it reduced odors when used in conjunction with my kitchen hood alone.
The noise level is about average for a unit of this type, but it’s actually quieter than fixed hood, making it comfortable to use during longer cooking sessions. The maximum power draw is 20W which is quite efficient.
Overall, this is a sturdy, well-built, and effective portable hood. If you enjoy tabletop cooking, Korean barbecue, hot pot, or other indoor meals that produce a lot of smoke and odors, it’s a worthwhile addition that significantly helps keep the home smelling fresher. It is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets!
Grea
If you live in an apartment with a useless recirculating hood—or love doing indoor hot pot and Korean BBQ—this TECHCHAO portable range hood is honestly a game changer. Right out of the box, it’s compact, lightweight, and surprisingly easy to set up. Having three fan speeds and the option to power it via AC adapter or a compatible USB-C setup makes it super versatile, whether you’re setting it up on a kitchen counter, a dining table, or packing it along for an RV trip. For its size, the suction is surprisingly impressive at pulling smoke, steam, and oil splatter right out of the air before it settles on your furniture.
That said, it isn’t completely flawless and comes with a few trade-offs you should keep in mind. On the highest speed setting, the fan definitely gets pretty loud, so you’ll have to crank up the TV or speak up over dinner. While the multi-stage filter setup does a commendable job trapping grease, the filters fill up quick if you’re doing heavy high-heat frying, meaning you’ll need to clean or replace them fairly often to keep the airflow strong. Also, keep in mind that while it handles localized steam and cooking fumes well, it’s not going to fully replace a full-sized overhead kitchen exhaust if you’re trying to sear multiple cast-iron steaks at once.
Overall, though, as long as you keep your expectations realistic for a desktop unit, it’s a solid purchase. It drastically cuts down on lingering food smells and sticky grease film on your countertops, making indoor tabletop cooking way less stressful. If you need portable ventilation for small space living, dorms, or weekend hot pot nights, it’s definitely worth having in your kitchen setup.
Helpful for Reducing Cooking Smoke and Odors
This portable range hood is a convenient option when you need extra ventilation without installing a traditional hood. It has good airflow for its compact size, and the suction power helps pull in smoke and cooking odors when positioned close to the cooking area. I especially like using it when frying or cooking foods that tend to leave lingering smells. The smoke control and odor removal are noticeable, although I would not expect a countertop unit to perform exactly like a full size vented range hood.
The size is compact enough that it does not take up a huge amount of counter space, and it can easily be moved when needed. The unit feels durable, the overall quality is good, and having several replacement filters included is convenient for continued use. For someone who needs a portable ventilation option without permanent installation, I think it offers good value.
My old vent hood failed and I didnt have the space anymore for a new one with a rack I put in, THIS UNITS A LIFESAVER!
Living in a place where I cant install a full size range hood made this a really nice solution… Setup was super easy and I had it running in just a couple minutes with the included power adapter. I like that it can also be powered through USB C with the right power source which makes it handy if I want to move it around. It doesn’t take up much counter space and is easy to position right next to whatever I’m cooking
I mainly use it when making burgers on a countertop grill and when we have hot pot at the table… It definitely helps pull in a good amount of the smoke and keeps those strong cooking smells from hanging around the kitchen for hours. It works best when placed close to the food just like the instructions recommend. The three fan speeds are nice because I can leave it on low for lighter cooking or turn it up when things get a little smokey
The build quality feels solid and sturdy for something portable… The filters are easy to remove and clean and I like that it comes with plenty of extra replacement filters right in the box. The detachable oil cup also makes cleanup quick instead of having grease collect inside the unit. It is a thoughtful design that feels like it will last with regular use
For anyone in an apartment dorm RV or other small space this is a really practical option… It is much more affordable than trying to install a permanent vent system and does a respectable job for everyday cooking. Overall I think it offers great value for the money and has already made indoor cooking more enjoyable. My smoke alarm is probably wondering why it has gotten so quiet lately
Seven carbon filters came in the box
If you are not familiar with Amazon Vine, it is basically Amazon trading free* products for honest reviews. I do my best to make my reviews honest, real and value-oriented as if I had paid for each item I receive.
* These items are not totally free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. I only mention this because we Viners do have some skin in the game for each item we order.
Why I ordered this item: I do a lot of hot pot at home and my apartment doesn’t have great ventilation. The smoke and smell gets into everything and I wanted something I could put right on the table next to the pot.
Likes:
* The multi-stage filter setup is pretty thorough for something this small. There’s a grease pre-filter, a metal filter, and an activated carbon layer. I held it close to my hot pot on high speed and it was pulling smoke toward it noticeably.
* It comes with a crazy good number of replacement filters. Seven carbon filters total, plus two extra PVC filters and a spare metal one. I didn’t expect that kind of supply included in the box.
* The three speed settings are useful. Low is quiet enough that I can have a conversation over it. High gets a little loud but it’s moving real air.
* The detachable grease cup is a snazzy little touch. It pops off and you dump it out. Super easy to clean.
No likes:
* You need to position this really close to your smoke source. Like, right on top of it. If you set it back even a foot or so it does almost nothing. That’s a bit of a screwy limitation for table use depending on how your setup is arranged.
* It’s USB-C but it’s not just any USB-C. It needs a DC 12V/2A source specifically, and most standard phone chargers won’t cut it. I think that’s a weird call and it’s going to trip people up.
* The plastic housing feels a little flimsy if i’m being blunt. I wouldn’t toss this in a bag without being careful with it.
Would I pay full price for this product: Yes, but only if you cook indoors often.
Final thoughts: This is a useful thing for hot pot or tabletop grilling in a small space with no hood. The filter bundle included is insane for the price. Just know going in that it needs to be within about half a foot of the smoke to do its job well.
