Easy and Quick
I love this yarn winder. This is my first yarn winder, so I don’t have anything else to compare to, but it was easy and quick to set up and use. I have already used it a few times and I haven’t had any issues yet. It’s so fun and satisfying to use.
A pretty good ball winder, with a few quirks!
I have 2 ball winders already, so did I really NEED a third? No. Did I want a third? Yes. I don’t own an electric ball winder (I have a “regular” one and a high-capacity solid cast iron version), so I was excited to give it a try. I’ve heard negative things about a totally different model so I wondered if this would be true for all electric ball winders, or just that particular model. I’m pleased to say: it was just that model. Once you’ve figured out the quirks to this one, it works really, really well!
In the box the ball winder comes fully disassembled. Assembly is not difficult, but getting those little screws into the bottom to attach the tension arm was a bit frustrating. It seems like the holes in the plastic body don’t *quite* line up with the holes in the metal arm, so it did take quite a bit of….persuasion. Once I had that part attached, the rest was smooth sailing. Also inside the box is a “quick start guide”, and a full instruction manual (that also included instructions for assembly). The most annoying part of the assembly was twisting the plastic “screw” onto the bottom of the adjusting clamping arm. This arm is VERY long (longer than I’ve ever seen in a ball winder before) which is a really good thing because it means it can attach to a large variety of table sizes (thicknesses), where most ball winders can only attach to a table that is at most about 1.5″ thick. I really, really like this feature! Here is my ONLY complaint about the ball winder: the tighter you clamp it to the working surface, the more lopsided it gets. I hope you can see the gap between the counter and the winder body is small on the left side (in the picture of the charging port and troubleshooting sticker; same side as the clamp) and much larger on the right side. This isn’t because of the yarn pulling forward; loosening the clamp makes this go away, but it is also less stable on the clamped surface.
The instructions show you how to feed the yarn into the tension arm, and provide suggestions for when to add extra tension and when to release tension. In general, add more tension for thinner, slippery yarns, and release tension for thicker or “furrier” yarns. I would absolutely NOT recommend you try winding eyelash yarn with this ball winder, because I think it would absolutely get caught in the tension springs. I was using a medium-weight yarn, so I did not add the extra tension knob and used “medium tension” otherwise.
The knob on the front is the speed knob, and the ball winder does come at least partially charged straight out of the box. I had a hard time figuring out the “optimal speed” (because faster is not always better, nor is slower, and every type of yarn will have a “best speed” that is probably not the same as any other yarn…) so my first ball came out a little wonky. This will definitely get better with practice. I do recommend you start slow and gradually increase speed, instead of just cranking up the speed knob to where you think you want it right away.
Overall, I think this is a really nice electric yarn winder. I’m really happy with it so far, and I hope it lasts me a long, long time! I would definitely recommend it.
Easy to set up and use. Really pleased with how quickly my yarn bundles turned into “yarn cakes.” Even more pleased when I finally realized that if I took the string from the center of the cake instead of from the side, that my yard cake stayed in place when using my electric I-Cord machine. No chasing the cake around the floor. I did put it inside a bowl just in case, but it didn’t budge at all. The machine also stops on its own if it encounters any snagged yarn. You just clear the snag, turn the machine off, and turn it back on to resume where it left off. Also, I had absolutely no trouble with the cake wall collapsing as the yarn was used up. When it got close to the end, the yarn remained in a neat circle as it was being used up by the I-Cord machine. Would definitely buy this again!
Great Once You Find The Right Speed
This yarn winder took me a few minutes to figure out, but putting it together was almost suspiciously easy. I actually assembled the whole thing without looking at the instructions, then went back afterward just to make sure I hadn’t accidentally invented a new model. Once I got everything sorted out, it started winding some really nice, tidy yarn cakes.
The biggest thing I learned is that faster isn’t always better. If I cranked the speed up too high, my yarn would start catching and pulling tight, but slowing it down to about a medium speed made all the difference. It wound smoothly, the cakes came out looking great, and I got to sit back while the machine did the work instead of giving my arm an unexpected workout. It’s not completely foolproof, but once you get a feel for it, it’s a really handy tool for anyone with a growing mountain of yarn waiting to be organized.
Electric Yarn Winde
Having a lot of yarn on hand is a great problem to have, but loose skeins and partially used hanks can turn into a pretty tangled situation.
This electric yarn ball winder has been a nice way to get everything organized without spending a ton of time manually winding yarn. The cakes come out neat, compact, and much easier to stack and store than a pile of unruly skeins.
The less effort it takes compared to a hand-crank winder is massive. Once it’s set up and running, it does most of the work for you.
That makes a difference when working through multiple skeins in one sitting. It’s especially helpful when I’m organizing a stash or prepping yarn before starting a project.
The yarn cakes it produces are easy to pull from and fit nicely into storage bins.
Since I tend to keep a fairly large yarn collection, having everything wound into uniform cakes makes it much easier to see what I have and keep things from becoming a jumbled mess.
My shelves definitely look more organized now.
The machine has handled the yarns I’ve tested without much trouble.
As with any winder, taking a little care with tension helps produce the best results, but once I got into a rhythm it worked smoothly. It saved me quite a bit of time compared to winding everything by hand.
I also appreciate that it helps make older or partially used skeins more manageable.
Instead of dealing with yarn flopping around in project bags, I can wind it into a tidy cake and put it away until I need it again.
It’s one of those craft tools that solves a small annoyance that comes up over and over.
The noise level is noticeable since it is an electric unit, but it’s not something that bothered me. I’d rather listen to a bit of motor noise for a few minutes than spend the same time cranking by hand. For larger winding sessions, the convenience wins out.
For yarn lovers, knitters, and crocheters who have accumulated more yarn than they’ll willingly admit to family members, this is a practical addition to the craft room.
It makes storage easier, helps keep yarn organized, and takes much of the work out of creating clean, usable yarn cakes. It’s been a genuinely useful tool that gets regular use in my crafting routine.
I’ve been using a manual yarn winder for sometime now, and I didn’t think the Electric version would make a significant difference, but thought it would be nice to have a back up anyway, so I didn’t have high expectations for this thing. So I was pleasantly surprised to discover that not only is this thing easier to use than the manual winder, but it does a much more uniform ball and makes it considerably faster.
Features I really like:
The automatic-ness. No cranking needed.
The tension springs. I didn’t see this coming, but these things are awesome. They make it so that not only Kenneth help it do its thing without assistance, but it allows you to pre-determine how tight you want the final ball to be. If you wanted a loose ball morphs easily, such as you might want for a hand made project, just turned the tension down. If you want tight balls, that will stay together. Well, turn the tension high. And having two of them is the perfect way of keeping it from moving the string around in unintentional ways.
The auto stop safety function. On my very first yarn ball, the very end of it was tangled, so when it got to that point, it simply stopped the machine rather than breaking the machine or even breaking the yarn. Neither happened. If the device is fully charged, you can simply turn it off and back on again to reset it, but if it doesn’t have enough charge, you just stick it back on the USB wire and then do the off and on switch, and it’ll be up and going like nothing’s wrong. It’s a nice feature. It does have a little sign on the front that says this, but it is helpful to know that if it doesn’t turn immediately back on, just plug it in again, and try again and it’ll work. On that note, I consider it also a good feature that you don’t have to have it charged in order to use it. You can simply plug it in to the wall and use it while it’s plugged in. It doesn’t force you to wait till it isn’t plugged in or has charge to be ableuse it. That’s always a plus.
Things I found less favorable:
Nothing major, in fact, I really have no complaints at all, but this might be a concern to somebody more than me. There is a little bit of assembly required. It’s neither complicated nor is it a lot, but it does come in a few pieces, which may look intimidating to some at first. And though the instruction sheet is a little unclear about the later steps, the image itself in the instructions will be plenty for almost everybody to put it together properly. Again, not a big deal, but if you have a serious phobia of assembly, you might want to get your teenager to do it for you. But seriously, it’s not at all difficult — — it took me about a minute and a half.
Now that I’ve tried this thing, my manual winder is now my backup. This will be my primary yarn winder for sure!

An Absolute Game-Changer for Yarn Management Worth Every Penny for Crafters!
This knitly Automatic Yarn Winder is absolutely amazing, and I honestly regret not getting one for my craft room much sooner. It arrived well-packaged, and I was thrilled to find that it was incredibly easy to assemble and to set up right out of the box, allowing me to start winding immediately.
It handles large skeins of yarn so much faster than I ever could manually, consistently producing high-quality, perfectly tensioned, and neat yarn cakes. It is remarkably reliable; it feeds the yarn smoothly without any tangles, and the smart safety feature is a standout—if it encounters an unexpected snag, it automatically stops pulling to prevent any damage to my yarn. I also love the flexibility of being able to adjust the winding speed in real-time, which is a major advantage when working with different types of fibers.
The only minor downside was the initial condition of the item; upon opening the box, I noticed that the winder arrived with a few small cosmetic scratches on the exterior. However, despite these minor aesthetic flaws that do not affect performance at all, I still highly recommend this product to any serious crocheter or knitter. While it is certainly on the higher end of the price spectrum, it is a fantastic, time-saving investment that you absolutely will not regret!
This electric yarn ball winder will take some practice to use. It seems large enough in capacity to hold a full ball of yarn when you are undoing your work. The motor is rechargeable so you are not going to go through batteries. I love that. It only comes in one design and color. It is made of plastic and while it looks intuitive to use, I am going to take my time figuring it out. All in all, this yarn winder is worth the cost, seems to work as designed and some will need to practice with it to use it to its full potential.
Great little winder, efficient and easy to set up
This is my first time using a motorized yarn winder, as I normally use a traditional wooden swift and wooden yarn winder, so I was interested to see how much easier this would make the process.
The setup was very straightforward and I had it ready to use quickly. The clamp held firmly onto both my bookshelf and table, and the winder stayed securely in place without moving around while it was running. Some of the plastic components feel a little thin, so I think it is worth taking a little extra care when assembling it.
The motor is a little noisy, but I didn’t find the sound particularly harsh or unpleasant. I wound directly from the swift and also holding a loose ball in my hand with no problems . I loosened the tension slightly on mine to make sure the yarn transferred smoothly, and this worked well on my dk weight yarn, with a fingering weight yarnI didn’t need to alter anything..
I was really impressed with the finished yarn cakes. They were neatly and evenly wound, although I did find that the centre hole was larger than the one I normally get with my wooden winder. This meant the cake spun around a little on my yarn holder. For the next cake, I put a small roll of cardboard over the winder before starting, which reduced the size of the centre hole and allowed my yarn holder to grip it much better.
One of the best features is being able to leave the winder working while I prepare another skein. It made the whole process much more efficient. I also really liked the safety feature — if the yarn encountered a tangle or knot, the machine stopped immediately rather than continuing to pull on the yarn.
Overall, this is a great little motorized winder and has made winding yarn much quicker and more convenient. There are a couple of minor things to be aware of, such as the noise and the larger centre hole, but neither was a deal-breaker for me. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you wind a lot of yarn and want to save yourself some time and effort.
