First off, I uploaded a short video so you can see size, weight, and build of this speaker. It’s very light, and ultimately I’d describe it as a laptop speaker inside a small disc with Bluetooth connectivity.
I listen to sleep videos at night. To keep from waking others, I put my phone under my pillow and sleep on my side and the sound is audible through the pillow, but not elsewhere.
With this speaker, I’m essentially doing the same thing but my phone doesn’t have to stay under the pillow. I’m not sure if this speaker is a better solution long-term since I’ll need to charge it every day to run it all night. That’s just one more thing to do. Also note that there’s a sleep mode, so you can set this speaker to turn off after 60 mins for example, and it should last days on a charge that way.
Whether with the phone or this speaker under my pillow, the sound is obviously going to be a bit muffled. However, words are very understandable.
Some things in the product description seem misleading to me, so I’ll point them out here. I didn’t deduct a star but I came close:
“No more snore”. This is false, I still snore, sadly.
“Directional sound design”. Also false, you can hear this just like you can a regular speaker, all around the room. The pillow is what mutes the sound so you can only hear it when your ear is pressed to the pillow, i.e. you’re sleeping on your side.
If you don’t mind charging another device and you don’t want to smother your phone under your pillow every night, this is a great idea for stealth nighttime listening.
