Bright, complete kit, AWESOME power ooptions
This is one of the best camera monitors I’ve used, and probably the best you can get under $300. This is a superb value. The single and only thing I would change is to make it with an aluminum body, and not plastic. With that said, if it were made of metal it would weigh significantly more decrease the ability to easily attach it to things like gimbals, for use all day. Sigh… The manufacturer probably made the right call with plastic. They DO have an optional metal cage for this product, just not in this kit.
So why would I rank this the best? Two primary reasons…
1. Screen brightness – At 1600 NITs, this is good in any condition. Indoors, outdoors, even in direct sun. There is a sun shade that comes with the kit as well, which helps with outdoor use. A camera monitor cannot sacrifice on brightness, and this one doesn’t.
2. Power options – This has the most useable power distribution system I’ve seen! You can power this by NP-F (most popular) with the included NP-F970 battery, or via usb-c, or via a 12V DC power plug! Basically, you can power this from pretty much anything. This also offers power OUTPUT options. 8.4V to power a camera dummy battery, and a female NP-F mount to connect a wireless transmitter. I have used this with a 4k wireless HDMI transmitter and it works great!
There’s plenty of other things to like, but the two above are really what separates this from much of the field. The 4K HDMI IN/OUT is great, even though I mostly work in 1080p/60. The kit comes with a very nice case, big battery, sunshade, and cold shoe mount, along with a plethora of cables for free. The cold shoe mount is not the standard “tilt shoe” mount, it’s actually an aluminum arm that has an additional cold shoe mount on it. You can use this with a tilt shoe if you have one though…
There are also 4 mount points. You heard that right… There is a 1/4″ receiver on the top, right side, bottom, AND directly in the middle of the back of the monitor (as seen in the picture).
When I’ve used this monitor, I’ve not once said “I wish this had…” Functionally, this supports so many different applications. Great monitor, would highly recommend.
