In an effort to refresh the house for a potential future sale, i have added quite a few plants to the yard. i have been watering them by hand when I am watering all of my other (potted) plants, but when this item became available through the vine program , I thought I had found at least a partial solution.
I have added a row of arbor vitae trees that I wanted to make sure were getting consistently watered, as we are in drought-like conditions and the high heat of summer is rapidly approaching.
I attach this soaker hose to my garden hose and positioned it down the line of arbor vitae trees. i went inside for a 30 minutes, then came back out to check the results.
The soaker hose does put out water; unfortunately, it does not put out enough water quickly enough to suit my needs. I would need to run this hose for several hours at a time to get the amount of water I want to get to my trees, but that does jot work for my schedule.
The instructions say to make sure to use one of the gaskets (3 included) to help reduce water pressure in the socket hose to prevent blowouts. i did that, but I am very tempted to try it without the gasket to see if it will put out more water so that I can use it where I want to use it.
EDIT: at the request of someone who wants something but doesn’t have the sense to know they can’t have it without making a lot of extra work for a lot of people, we have installed a line of hosta along a sidewalk at work; this sidewalk is in a very sunny location and hostas are shade loving plants, so they will need to be watered very heavily and consistently. we will be using this soaker hose as a test run– because it does not put out much volume, we can turn it on in the morning and then turn it off before we go home in the afternoon, so that the hosta gets slow , consisting watering during the entire day. this is a cheap , easy to install (and replace) test for the permanently plumbed drip irrigation that will be used if the hostas survive.
Quality is excellent, and the hose feels very durable. My only complaint, and the reason for taking off one star, is that the 200-foot version doesn’t come with nearly enough ground stakes. It only included enough to secure about one 50-foot section. I ended up having to order more to install the entire hose properly.
Really nice soaker hose
Quality soaker hose! I like the fact that it is a flat soaker hose, so it’s a low profile in your flower/vegetable bed. It has a nice slow water flow. I bought the 50 foot length so it’s very easy to install in my flower beds. It’s also very flexible for easy installation. You can daisy chain them to connect additional lengths as needed and the connectivity is via a solid brass connector. This soaker hose should last many seasons. Great value for the cost. Recommend.
This soaker hose was quick to set up and has worked really well in my garden.
I installed it on a gentle slope through one of my native planting beds. The hose runs behind a row of plants, curves around several groupings, then winds its way down the hill before ending behind my retaining wall. The 50-foot length turned out to be just right for the space.
The hose itself feels sturdier than several soaker hoses I’ve owned in the past. It comes with stakes to hold everything in place, but because my garden is on a slope, I added a couple of extras from my garage. That helped keep the curves where I wanted them and prevented the hose from gradually sliding downhill, which would affect how evenly the water is distributed.
I’m running mine from a splitter with the water pressure turned fairly low. I didn’t end up needing the included gasket, and so far I haven’t had any leaks. The hose provides a slow, consistent soak that’s easy to leave running while I’m working elsewhere in the yard.
For my garden, about 30 minutes is enough during hot, dry weather. On cooler days, even 5-10 minutes provides plenty of moisture to keep the soil evenly damp without overwatering.
Overall, this has been a reliable upgrade from the soaker hoses I’ve used in the past, and I’d happily buy it again.
