Omg I’ve wanted one of these for so long!!! Popped right out the box and assembled in a few minutes! Later in I’m going to go get some yarn to try it out! I need to get back to yarn work, I’ve just been so busy, but this will help with tangles and knots when working with a skein of yard!
Huge Time-Saver for Crocheters!
This electric yarn winder is such a handy tool! It takes the tedious work out of winding yarn and turns loose yarn into neat, compact cakes quickly. I really like being able to adjust the winding speed, and the adjustable tension makes it easy to get a nice, even cake. The large capacity is especially useful for bigger projects like blankets, and it works with a good variety of yarn weights. It’s also nice that it automatically stops if the yarn gets tangled. Just be aware that it isn’t designed for super-thick or very fine yarn, so check your yarn size before using it.
Works, but stops randomly
I have a lot of half or mostly finished skeins that get a bit unruly unless they are rewound. I got this to make that a faster and easier process. It is still both of these things, but it is not perfect. Putting the machine together was very simple, and right away I started winding the leftovers from my last knit. I had the tension pretty loose, but it still paused every 15 seconds before starting again. Nothing was caught; it just stopped. It still got the job done much faster than I could have done it. But it was not a smooth process.
Handy Electric Winder Once I Figured Out the Tension Spring
This was pretty easy to put together and mostly self-explanatory, so I started using it without really reading the instructions. At first I didn’t have the yarn running through the tension spring. It still worked, but once I realized where the yarn was supposed to go and put it through the spring, it wound much better and more evenly.
Winding was surprisingly easy. The speed is controlled by the knob, although on mine it seems more like slow and fast rather than a lot of noticeable speeds in between. I usually started it slower and then sped it up once everything was feeding properly.
I also had trouble trying to hold and feed the yarn myself. The product photos show yarn spread out on the table, but what actually worked best for me was simply letting the unwound yarn fall onto the floor. The machine picked it up and continued winding without me having to constantly feed it by hand.
I originally thought I would wind the entire skein into one cake because I really didn’t want to cut the yarn. Once I saw how large the cake was getting, though, I realized that probably wasn’t practical. The cake I ended up with was already quite large, so splitting the skein made more sense.
Overall, it’s a pretty handy little tool. It clamps securely to the table, was easy to assemble, and definitely beats winding a large amount of yarn by hand. My only real issue is that the speed adjustment doesn’t feel very gradual to me.
