Nice for the pup's use We have and have had several of these over the last two years of enjoying our 10 lb pup.
Since we live part of the year in an apartment building, we have placed one of these on the balcony where we have a dog door placed so he can go as he pleases. And, because we live in a home the other part of the year, where there are dangerous creatures out at night, we place this in a far part of the house so that he can go at night without waking us.
They are all more or less similar and work well as long as you keep them clean. It’s easier for us to do this at our home where we have a backyard and a garden hose to clean the mat weekly. At the apartment, it’s a bit trickier since you cannot use water that will drip onto the balconies below you, and os it gets cleaned in the bathtub.
Where we see the differences is in three properties. One, how easily the “grass” pulls out. Our monster thinks he’s a cow and likes to chomp on the grass. Some of our mats have had bald spots due to this behavior, but this mat seems to have the grass very firmly attached. The second issue is that many of the mats start to shred apart at the edges. This is somewhat common, and this is one of the better differentiators with this mat since it has a very nice hem along the edges that will prevent that from happening. The third difference is appearance. This is the least important to us since not many people see it and we’re not pretending it is a lawn or putting green, but if it is important to you, this mat is on the lower side of looking like real grass compared to others. Absolutely makes no difference to me, but it might to you.
As far as allowing drainage, I find that most are good at that, and this mat is no exception to that rule. One other area in which this excels is that some mats have a chemical smell, usually for a couple of weeks or more, after opening the packaging. When they do, I will place them outside for a few weeks until the smell goes away, but fortunately, this mat had no offensive odors right out of the box (or rather the plastic it was shrink-wrapped in).
Overall, this is an excellent purchase unless you are looking to match some realistic-looking grass you might have as a decorative feature of your yard.

These washable reusable artificial grass pads are the reason I don’t have to go outside in rain, snow, or the middle of the night anymore! I was fortunate to discover indoor dog potties that use these grass pads early on with my first pug and it wasn’t hard to train him to use it when he couldn’t go outside–he (and his younger brother) know they will get lots of praise and a treat when they use that indoor potty instead of my carpet. They won’t use the plain absorbent pads (guess they got used to the “grass” so that’s what they prefer) but I line their large dog potty box with the disposable absorbent pads then place the grass in the bottom, so that the urine leaks through into the pads and is easily disposed of. I also discovered that they make a cleanser in a bottle (which attaches to my hose just like the stuff I use to wash windows and siding) and the cleanser not only cleans but deodorizes the grass pads when they need cleaning. One pad usually lasts two days in the potty box then I put it outside on the deck…when I have three or four of them that need cleansing, I do them all at once with the hose and cleanser, then hang them over my deck railing in the sunshine to dry. Once dry, I roll them up individually and keep them in a big plastic lidded container on the deck so I can grab a clean one whenever I need one. This particular type of pad is my favorite–it is lighter in weight than some that have a heavy rubber backing, and this one allows the urine to pass through it easily. This one also has a strong binding all around the edge so that it doesn’t ravel or come apart. It rolls up neatly and takes up less space than the larger heavier ones I’ve used. It also cleans easily with the hose and the cleanser. This type usually lasts through lots and lots of uses and holds up well. Whoever invented the indoor dog potties with this type of washable turf should win a prize–this artificial grass has saved me numerous trips out in the weather or dark, and numerous cleanups on my floors and carpeting.
Very useful, good price I’m a dog owner that is somewhat reluctant to use potty pads but I have to say this did come in handy. I used it when we fostered a pup for a week and she simply could not hold it in her crate all night. Incredibly easy to wash (water hosed it down) and reuse. I was watching out for biting or chewing on the fabric but did not experience this. The dog honestly seemed to treat it like grass. I have these saved in storage now but they really did come in handy for the foster. If i foster again, I will use. The price seemed a little steep at first but considering you get two and they are reusable, I’d say you’re getting a deal.
Excellent material, design, and drainage! I got these to use as outdoor rugs instead of puppy pee mats. I put one of the 34″ mats down right outside my back door as an outdoor rug for scraping shoes before coming inside.
Honestly, they’re perfect for it. The 34″ is the perfect size for a door mat. It’s a little too small for a large dog, in my opinion, though. The drainage design that’s meant to whisk away urine works just as well for rain, mud, and general grime, nothing pools on top. I also like the look more than I expected to: the brown “dirt” base under the grass blades is a nice visual touch instead of just green astroturf on a green mat. We just spray them out with a garden hose to clean them. Easy peasy.
As for durability, the grass fibers are packed tightly enough to hold up to boots and shoes scraping across them repeatedly without shedding or thinning out. And when my 65 lbs “puppy” thought maybe she could dig through these, she was sorely disappointed lol. I’m genuinely impressed for something marketed as a training pad.
If you’re looking for a dog potty pad, this will presumably do that job well based on the design. But if you just want a tough, good-looking mat for your entryway, it’s worth considering for that alone.
Great absorbency The doggo has fewer accidents these days in her “couldn’t hold it any longer” spot, but I got these for those rarer occasions. So naturally, she hasn’t used them for their intended purpose yet, haha. She’s scooted them around and pulled one next to her bed, like a welcome mat. She’s mostly using them as napping mats, but at least she’s not put off by them.
They’re very well sewn. Brushing your hand across the mat reveals the “grass” is colored like dirt at the attachment point, so it’s a very good visual mimic of a patch of grass to humans. I tested the absorbency with roughly 1/4 gallon of water poured halfway between the mat’s middle and outer edge and it was easily contained. Took it outside and blasted it with the hose for a mock cleaning, followed by a couple hours of drip drying and then an air tumble dry and it held up well. She may not be putting them to the test yet but I don’t have any worries about them becoming a grassy machine mess during clean up should the need arise.
These would have been a huge plus as she worked through house training but better late than never! Terrific training pad se
Fabulous Mats, but I Dont Think My Elderly Pets Recognize Them as Places They Can Potty. I didn’t put them out for a while because when I opened the package and unfolded them, they shed some blades, and I didn’t want to clog my washing machine cleaning them. Then I read some reviews saying that they washed well in the machine, so I decided to try them. In the photos after opening them, you will see large creases; however, when I was deciding whether to use them, I hung them over the stair rails, and, as you can see in later photos, they smoothed out.
My pets are both 15-years-old. One is a dog, and one is a cat. I’ve always had an emergency pad for the dog, but until she got old, she preferred to go outside. At our former house, the cat could go outside whenever she wanted, with few exceptions. She has never liked a litter box and would go potty outside. As they got older, I had to have more pads for the dog, and the cat ended up using them. It’s not safe for her to go outside where we live now.
The cat watched me when I put out the green mat. She walked over to it, touched it with one paw, and then walked around it. My dog sleeps a lot, and I’m not often there. I’m not sure how she feels about it, but she has never used it. I think it’s because they were trained where they could go and it was never a place with a thick PP (polypropylene) material.
The mat is very well made, and after the folds went away, it really looks nice. I think I will use them as outdoor mats. One could be at the front door and one at the back. I’m going to wait a bit longer, though, to see if the dog will use it. I don’t think the cat will because she likes to move the mats both before and after she goes. This is too sturdy for her.
Great optio I ordered the article grass puppy potty training pads with no clear expectations. With a 10 week puppy at home, I appreciate having any options on hand. I hate traditional pee pads, attempting to fully potty train my dog to go outside. These pads were a great option to have, though, in cases when this isn’t possible. For example, if raining, my dog refused to go in the rain. If in public, options for potty are limited, as he hasn’t yet received all required vaccinations for public grass. Therefore, while not using these as the primary source of potty training, they’ve been useful to have for other situations.
In comparison to other pee pads, these blow them out of the water. They’re thin enough to easily fold up without being bulky, while still being thick enough to do the job. The grass isn’t quite like typical grass, but similar enough. Overall, they’re sturdy and durable for what you need.
While my dog hasn’t quite mastered using them as directed, I will say, I am impressed with how strong they are. As puppies do, he LOVES biting them, attempting to rip the grass out. Despite doing so heavily, he has only been successful for a few blades, which I appreciate.
Overall, great value for the money. They’re reusable, easy to transport, and look way better than traditional pee pads.
Thick, well made, multi-purpose grass mats! This set of artificial grass mats are very well constructed, thick, and a great size. The simulated grass on the rugs is very thick and durable as well. The grass does not easily shed from the rug and seems to be bound very well.
One thing to note is that the grass is separating near the center area of each rug. This coincidentally is where the rugs were folded for shipping, but after two days of laying out straight, they are still very much separated at this point. This causes the grass to stand up in a different direction and is very noticeable. I suppose that it is possible that after more than two days of lying straight, this may correct itself, but I would have assumed that it would have done so after 48 hours? I suppose it’s possible that based on the thickness of this mat that it would take a little more time to even out from being folded. **the last photo in my review shows the rug after laying flat for two days and an example of the crease in the grass**
The rugs do feel like they are made very well. They have a heavy solid weight to them, and the weaving along the backside of the rug is very good and tight. The binding around the side of the rug is very solid as well, this should last and not fray.
I could definitely see where these would be great to use as a potty mat for a dog. I suppose you would put the puppy pad underneath? We intend to use them for our cats. They are strictly indoor cats, but do enjoy lounging on our screened in porch. I got these rugs for them to be able to lie and relax on grass while still being safe within the screened in porch. Even though my cats will not be using the restroom on these rugs, I do intend to hose them down from time to time in order to keep them clean. The way that they are constructed with the weaving on the back will allow for them to dry quickly and the water to run through. We also have a pool and these will make great mats too wipe our feet on to keep from soaking the floor or slipping down. One great thing about these is that they can serve multiple purposes and do not specifically look like a dog potty mat.
I do feel that based on the quality and construction of the rugs. The value for the cost is very good. Regardless of what you choose to use it for, you are getting a very well-made and high-quality simulated grass rug. This is definitely not your typical “Astroturf type of cheap simulated grass. This is a very nice quality thick grass rug/mat.
