Compact and Easy to Pack
This compact and lightweight 8×42 monocular measures about 6 inches long. I placed it next to a standard 12-ounce soda can for size reference (see my photo).
The 8×42 design provides a good combination of magnification and compact size. It has a one-hand focus, which makes it easy to adjust while holding the monocular. We’ve always used binoculars, so viewing with one eye took a little getting used to. Once I adjusted, I actually found that I preferred the monocular to our binoculars.
The smaller size is a big advantage for travel because it takes up much less space than our old binoculars while still giving us the magnification we want for sightseeing and other activities. I can also see it being useful for bird watching, hiking, sporting events, and concerts.
It comes with a protective carrying case, wrist strap, lens caps, cleaning cloth, and user guide. I did remove one star because the product description states that a phone adapter and small tabletop tripod are included, but neither was in my box. Everything else listed above was included.
Mom struggles to get it to work
I got this small handheld telescope for me to help with spotting birds as it isnt as cumbersome as binoculars. I like how iy has a nice durable feeling case and build to it, and the belt strap for portability. I do wish it was a clip that would let me put it only a molle system, but I get making something with universal compatibility is hard. With its small size it doesnt take up too much space which is a great value when im hiking and taking photos.
Decent monocular telescope - good for initial scoping
I have high end binoculars and cameras for birds watching and was looking for a monocular telescope for initial scoping before using the binoculars and camera. This unit is a decent addition to my gear. It is very portable and easy to adjust with one handed operation. With a magnification of 8 it is easy to keep stable and can use the other eye as needed to find the object and then focus on it using the scope. It does collect a decent amount of light but wouldn’t use it during dusk or low light. Focusing is easy and I wear glasses but adjusting the objective was straightforward. However the optical quality of the glass is the first strike against it. It has large spherical aberration towards the edges and only the central part of the view is clean and without distortion.
The accessories provided namely the small tripod and phone attachment are not very useful and extremely flimsy. I would not use them at all.
Also, I would not use this as my go to scope except for initial finding and scoping as mentioned earlier due to its the optical quality. But will carry it since it is after all highly affordable, light and provides adequate value for the money for my intended usage.
