I have been wanting an automatic yarn winder for ages and I was pretty excited when this arrived. It’s really easy to setup and use and the instructions are easy to follow. It clamps on to my bench to jeep it in place and then set up the yarn as per the instructions and away you go. It winds the yarn up neatly and it does it faster than I was expecting. I love to knit and crochet and before getting this I used to wind the yarn by hand and get it all knotted and messy. This makes a neat yarn ball thats easier to knit and crochet with and works well in my knitting machine too. I have had fun using this and it has made mybyarn so much neater.
Let me say that this is a amazing product for those who love to crochet. The appearance is amazing. The durability works very well. The size is perfect. Very valuable for your money. N works well for any surface u need. Very compatible.

An Excellent Machine for Crafters
I was in the market for a yarn winder. When I did some research and discovered that electric winders weren’t that much more expensive than their manual / hand crank counterparts, it seemed like a no brainer to opt for the automated option.
The lack of reviews for this product made me a bit hesitant, however it was advertised that this machine was able to handle a larger amount of yarn than its competition, so I took the risk.
I’ve had this yarn winder for almost two weeks now, and I am VERY impressed by it.
So far, the pros and cons in my opinion are as follows:
PROS
– the setup of the machine itself is very straightforward. There are a few parts that you are required to assemble when you open the box, but the instructions are very clear and it’s done in about a minute
– Loading yarn for winding is nice and simple. Again, the included instructions are very clear and easy to follow
– It features variable speed, which you can change even whilst the machine is in operation, which is a brilliant feature
– I have tested and been able to successfully wind a variety of fibres , including synthetics – some of which I thought would be difficult or impossible, such as faux fur, chenille and velvet yarn
– I have also had success winding various weights of yarn (up to 6 Super Bulky. I sadly did not have any 7/ Jumbo yarn on hand to try, so can’t attest to the machines ability to work with that weight)
– it is very efficient. This is obviously dependent on your chosen speed, but I have wound entire 100 gram skeins in a little over 3 minutes
– The noise it emits isn’t overly loud or grating
– Continuous operation does not seem to cause any issues (‘continuous’ may not be the best term, as there is stopping to remove completed cakes, and the set up). I have used the machine for approximately one hour at a time with no problems such as overheating, reduced speed etc
– It features automatic ‘knot detection’. If it detects a knot in the yarn, it will cease operating
– This is a big one for me – it has saved my hands! As a disabled person, I greatly appreciate products such as this yarn winder that reduce stress and fatigue, which allow me to continue to participate in the crafts I love.
CONS
– Some of the design choices are a bit odd – specifically, the configuration of some of the essential components. The On/Off/Speed Adjust knob is located on the opposite side of the machine to the clamp. This means that once you secure the machine to your surface to with the clamp, the knob is at the back of the machine and isn’t visible. You may be able to improve visibility in a standing position, but I cannot stand, so I can’t attest to that. It’s a very small design flaw that I just thought was worth mentioning
– This may be a bit nit-picky, but the adjustable plastic tension screw is very difficult to use. I completely understand that some resistance is necessary so it can perform its function, however I am unable to adjust the screw at all without the assistance of a nonslip mat in. Again, I am disabled and acknowledge this issue may be more pronounced for me, however when I have asked non-disabled friends for their opinions, they have agreed it’s a bit tricky.
– If the skein/ yarn you are winding into a cake is wound very tight, the machine sometimes mistakenly interprets this as a knot and triggers the automatic stop feature. I don’t know if there is a realistic way to stop this from occurring. I’ve found manually unwinding from the working skein and operating at a low speed seems to be the best solution for this issue.
Overall, I am incredibly happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this electric yarn winder. If my math is correct, I’ve been able to create almost 150 yarn cakes in the short time I’ve owned it. This has resulted in being able to organise my yarn stash and divvy up my yarn for donation in record time!
I am really curious to see how the machine ages over time and with more prolonged use. If I remember, I’ll try and provide an update in a couple of months time.
As someone who crochets almost daily, this yarn winder has been a big time saver. It’s lightweight, doesn’t take up much space, and was really easy to set up straight out of the box. Within a few minutes, I had my first skein wound into a neat, center pull ball. The motion is smooth and steadyno tangles or sudden snags like I’ve experienced with cheaper winders.One thing I appreciate is how sturdy it feels once clamped to the table. It doesn’t wobble or slide around, even when winding larger skeins. The design is simple but actually kind of stylish, so I don’t mind leaving it on my crafting table. After using it for about two weeks, I can honestly say my projects feel more organized because I’m not constantly fighting with messy yarn piles.
Pretty good but needs a US power adapte
This is a table mounted wool winder that that is pretty well designed and built. The mechanics are simple, it simply spins a holder at an angle which wraps the wool into a uniform ball. The power and speed and controlled by a single knob on the side which at is lowest setting is the off position. As you twist the knob the winder spins faster and faster. You get two cores that can be quick clipped onto the spinner, so when you;re done with one you can put a second core into the spinner without removing it from the first, Removing the core is simple enough though so you can easily live with one but the inclusion of a second one is a nice touch.
The wool feeds through a spring that can be tighten to increase the tension of the wool wrapping. A looser setting will leave the ball quite loose so depending on the wool you can make the proper adjustments. While this is automated I wouldn’t say it’s completely autonimous – any inconsistencies in the wool source will likely lead to either a knot getting wrapped up in the ball or jam the machine if it can’t pull the knotted thread through. This is not a fault of the winder but something to consider. While it can go quite fast the winder is quite easy to stop with your hand or if it hits any sort of knot which is quite nice from a safety perspective. Make sure to use a solid table – I initially set this up on a fairly flimsy table and the machine causing quite a bit of wobble.
I removed 1 star mainly because the power plug is american and an adapter is not incluided, but at least it is compatible up to 240v. A USB power source would have been ideal or at least an Australian plug.
