I tried out this metal covered hose because it’s nice to leave a hose out for quick access, but the Florida sun can break most hoses down quickly. So far this is rock solid. No leaks. Good connections. I also like the re-enforced ends.
have been using stainless steel garden hoses for the past four years, I wouldn’t use anything else. First. These hoses do not kink, It is almost impossible to get them tangled up. Because of their stainless steel exterior, they slide on top of themselves, they don’t kink because they don’t stick to themselves, like rubber. Although they are not impervious to damage after a run in with a lawn mower, chances are, the damage won’t catastrophic, you can still use the hose, it just won’t look as nice.
These hoses don’t heat up in the sun, so you can always get a cold drink, right out of the hose, without tasting like rubber. The attachment ends are high quality. Accessories screw onto smooth and easy, and if there is a leak it is the accessory, not the hose. And the hose is lightweight, and easy to carry.
I have found choosing shorter lengths of hose is generally a better choice than long hoses, for a variety of uses. I couple several hoses together with “T” fittings to water all four of my raised beds, at the same time. I tie my dogs between two trees, so they can’t get away, and give them a bath, with two hoses. I water our small “secret garden” without having to lug around a long, heavy hose, same thing when I wash my car or spray down the driveway.
Believe me, a few shorter hoses are a lot better than long hoses. Short hoses can screw together, to make any length you need, without having to cut one long hose into pieces, without having leaky ends.
We needed a 12 ft. hose to replace one going from our water hydrant to our horses’ heated water trough. Normally, we use inexpensive garden hoses that we set up with a quick connect and in the winter we disconnect the hose, drain it, and hang it in the halter shed in between uses. Even with those precautions, I have had three hoses burst this winter. I was eager to try this hose because even though it is a similar price to the regular garden hose, it is heavier duty, lighter, and resists kinks better. It came with thread tape for the connections which we haven’t used yet since there are no leaks anywhere even with adding a quick connect union. I was a little concerned about the smaller inner diameter: I have found that the flow rate is exactly the same as with my larger diameter garden hose, but the velocity at the exit of the hose is higher (Bernoulli’s Equation at work!). This means that I can fill a 100 gallon water trough as quickly as I normally do, but I have to anchor the end a little bit better so it doesn’t flail around and spray my thirsty horses! Hah!
I wasn’t sure how the hose would work in cold weather, but I’ve been using this hose in below-freezing weather (down to 21 F) and it is still very flexible at that temperature and there are no leaks. Again, we are making sure to detach and drain the hose in between uses. Overall, I am very happy with this hose!
Not only is this hose lightweight and super easy to coil and uncoil (it really is kink-free, it unkinks itself like magic), it actually survived the full weight of a mail truck. Yes, it is a bit flat where it got run over, but it still works perfectly, with zero leaks. Kind of shocking, actually.– but undeniably impressive.
The nozzle that is included has a great selection of settings and also works very well without any leaks. The inclusion of extra washers and pipe tape is a thoughtful addition. I’m replacing all my traditional hoses with this stainless steel version and expect them to last a very long time.
I expected this hose to be much heavier so I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be light weight. The brass fittings on the end are solid and good quality, and both ends have a rubber sleeve to protect it from damage and kinks. I love that these don’t have “memory” and aren’t stiff like a regular hose – you don’t have to twist or flip it to get the coils to go the right way – you just coil it whichever way and it goes without a fuss. This is a really nice feature if the hose gets muddy, unlike a rubber hose, you won’t be wearing half of that mud on you when you get done fighting to hang it back up. These resist kinking and are “puppy proof” unless they clamp down really hard on the hose since it will crush under enough pressure (don’t stand on it or drive over it!). I got so tired of dragging out my 100′ hose to water my flowers and had bought one of those “expanding” hoses but my water pressure isn’t high enough to get it to expand all the way in order to utilize the full length. When I saw this hose I had to get it and give it a try and I’m so glad I did! It is so worth it! My only concern now since I got it during wintertime is – how hot is the metal casing going to get when sitting out in the sun this summer? Fortunately my faucet is in a shady area, so as long as I store the hose near that I shouldn’t have an issue with hot metal, unless I leave it laying in the yard all day.
Lightweight, flexible and durable.
I currently have a 25 ft stainless steel garden hose that I use in the back of my house. The size has been fine, but now I want to extend my landscaping around to the side of my house, so I need a longer hose. I decided to order this DESNEWS 12 ft stainless steel garden hose rather than get a replacement hose because I can also use this 12 ft hose when I go camping. The length and light weight makes it perfect for my camping needs.
This DESNEWs 12 ft hose is lightweight, flexible, and durable. It comes with extra washers and plumber’s tape to help ensure a tight seal when you connect the hose to a faucet, another hose, or a spray nozzle. I especially like stainless steel hoses because I live in the south and the sun can be brutal on rubber hoses. They never last long because they dry out, crack, and then leak. This hose won’t do that.
It’s nice that a short hose is available. I’m all the time needing a short hose and don’t need a fifty-foot hose getting in the way. I probably need a short hose way more often than a long one. This stainless-steel hose is very sturdy, lightweight and convenient to work with. And it doesn’t have kinking problems like so many hoses. The fittings on the ends are very sturdy and don’t leak using the included washers. I also don’t have to worry about sun damage so this hose should last me many years.
Looks like this style hose is becoming more popular. Having used the so-called expanding hoses, give me this metal clad hose any day of the week and twice on Sundays. While the stainless steel protective sheath will guard against nicks and punctures, it can still get crushed, so mind where it is when the rider mower is fired up. Or if you’re a big body person, it might get squished if stepped on while laying on a hardscape patio or path, or even hardpacked soil/lawn. Been there, done that (not with this specific hose/brand).
Happily my current need for this hose involves a hot water heating system and its pressure-normalizing tank tucked between floor joists. After fussling with leaky, stiff and annoying vinyl hoses to charge the system, I decided to figure out a more permanent solution. This hose will connect the tank to the cold water supply that also feeds my washing machine. Had to steal back a hose splitter from out in the yard to get this done.
If you need a longer run of hose, cobbling together several shorter hoses like this isn’t cost effective, at least with pricing I’ve seen over the past 18 months. Bite the bullet and pay for what you need up front. F’rinstance 3 of these set you back just shy of 60 bucks for 36 feet. Or you could get a 35 foot hose for about a buck a foot, or a 50′ hose for 30 to 35 bucks(!).
