LOVE these as kitchen towels!
I really like these as kitchen towels! At first I wasn’t sure how this thin fabric would work to absorb water, but it turns out it works EXTREMELY well – maybe even better than traditional American/Western style kitchen towels. It gets all the water off my hands, and then the towels air-dry super quickly because they’re so lightweight, so you don’t end up having to swap them out as quickly as standard kitchen towels because they’re not getting overly damp for too long.
I’ve been fully converted and am going to start replacing my current kitchen towels with this type going forward.
Elega
At first glance these might be mistaken for ordinary dish towels but don’t let the resemblance fool you. They are hand sewn in Japan and they look it, and that’s not a bad thing. The rough, uneven stitching is a welcome relief from the mass produced cheaply made products we find sold today. The delicate look should not be mistaken though, these are tough and will probably last many years. They were imported directly and are written entirely in Japanese.
If you don’t speak the language it would be wise to use a translation app to advise you on the laundry instructions. They can bleed a little on the first washing and should not be mixed with other items that may be affected.
The pattern is significant. In Japan, a zigzag pattern is most famously associated with shide — sacred paper streamers used in Shinto rituals. Shide are typically made from white paper, cut and folded into a zigzag shape. Shide are used to mark the boundary between the ordinary world and a purified, sacred space. They symbolize purity and are believed to ward off evil spirits. The zigzag form is both visually striking and spiritually significant — its movement in the wind is thought to sweep away impurities, and the crackling sound of paper on a purification wand is believed to cleanse.

Display and use these towels with pride, I am using them as guest hand towels. There are a special addition to our bath. I like them.
I really like these Japanese tenugui towels. The gauze cotton is very lightweight and soft, and they have a completely different feel from a thick traditional terry towel. They’re thin, breathable and easy to fold down into almost no space.
The checkered patterns are simple but really attractive. I like the muted blue, gray and green colors, and the Japanese styling gives them a clean, understated look that works just as nicely in the kitchen as it does in a bathroom.
Because they’re so lightweight, they dry quickly and are useful for all sorts of little jobs around the house. I’ve used them as hand towels, kitchen towels and general-purpose cloths, and they’re also easy to tuck into a bag when traveling.
The long, narrow shape is another feature I like. They don’t feel bulky hanging from a hook or towel bar, and the 100% cotton fabric is comfortable enough to use on hands and face.
These are simple, well-made towels with a lot of versatility. I especially like them if you prefer lightweight cotton textiles rather than thick, fluffy towels.
Really nice quality thin cotton towels.
These are larger than the typical pocket handkerchiefs and very long. Besides the obvious use as a handkerchief, the size works great as a small wrap, napkin, or even a little furoshiki for packing snacks or small items.
The fabric is soft but feels quite durable. Absorbency is good and they’re comfortable on the skin without feeling scratchy. After a few washes they’ve held up well with no loose threads or fading.
Since they’re 100% cotton and made in Japan, the overall quality is noticeably better than the random bulk handkerchiefs you usually find online. I mostly use those for rags and cleaning but these will be my daily carry pocket handkerchiefs.

These towels have a nice, soft feel and the lightweight cotton dries quickly. I really like the traditional Japanese pattern—it looks even better in person. They’re a good size for the kitchen, drying hands, or even using as a lightweight face towel. Overall, they’re well made and a nice change from ordinary kitchen towels.
