THE Growing 53 Gallon Large Outdoor Compost Bin Tumbler
THE Growing 53 Gallon Large Outdoor Compost Bin Tumbler Barrel, Brown Dual 26.5gal landscape-blending chambers for bulk waste. Reinforced frame adds stability. Easy bolt outdoor yard assembly.
- EXPANDED 53-GALLON CAPACITY FOR BULK WASTE: Tailored for suburban properties with intensive yard maintenance and larger households. The expanded 53-gallon capacity is engineered into twin 26.5-gallon rotating sections, effortlessly accommodating bulk garden waste, autumn tree leaves, dense lawn clippings, and weeks of organic family food scraps.
- PRE-EMBEDDED NUTS FOR SOLO ASSEMBLY: Rethought for hassle-free backyard setups. This outdoor compost tumbler integrates heavy-duty metal nuts directly molded into the weatherproof resin panels. Simply align the structured panels and drive screws straight into the iron support frame, eliminating loose washers and allowing smooth solo assembly.
- DUAL POSITION LOCKING PINS: Wet kitchen scraps can weigh heavily and cause unexpected drum rolling. To stabilize large loads, we engineered dual mechanical position locking pins onto both sides of the reinforced metal base frame. Insert the pins to lock the barrel firmly in place for a steady, hands-free waste-dropping experience.
- AGITATING FINS & CROSS-VENTILATION: The inner barrel walls feature deep, factory-molded agitating fins that systematically lift and split dense, compressed yard materials during rotation. Combined with engineered cross-ventilation slots, this system guides a steady airflow directly through the compost pile to support natural breakdown.
- WEATHERPROOF RESIN & COMPACT FOOTPRINT: Built to sustain harsh summer heat and cold winters without structural warping. The rotating drum is manufactured from thick, impact-resistant, and UV-stabilized material. Its optimized footprint nests neatly onto garden patios or raised bed corners without dominating your outdoor living space.

I’ve just finished assembly – let’s just get it out of the way: everybody hates flat pack, it wasn’t complicated to see how it fit together but tricky in places. It’s going to take 1 – 1.5 hours and you will need two people. You are going to want an electric screwdriver or a drill with a torque limiter set to the minimum. They’ve made things a little easier by preinstalling nut inserts, but it’s still tricky to get the screws to seat into them quickly, multiply by thirty something screws. That’s where a second set of hands helps. Also aligning all the panels to seat into the second side of each drum with only one person will be frustrating. After it’s assembled it’s pretty nice, but I could immediately see two problems:
1- You get a brake on the side of either drum, but it relies on being close enough to the drum to contact it. A design flaw seems to leave a gap on the axle between the drums (see pic) and they can slide together and then the brake doesn’t reach the drum, so it doesn’t work. I’m literally going to have to cut a piece of pipe to put in the middle to force the drums apart so the brakes work. I double-checked the measurements diagram and instructions to make sure I had assembled it correctly and no parts are missing. This really annoys me, how hard is it to QA this kind of thing before you mass produce it?
2- The assembly guide says you should get two spare nut inserts in case any had fallen out. My hardware kit didn’t include any of these. Luckily I didn’t notice any missing.
I would have liked if it came with some plastic feet but it doesn’t. It’s very lightweight and easy to move when it’s empty.
Update: I put it in the yard, seems fine so far. To fix the problem with the brake I bought a black ABS pipe coupling for a couple of dollars – you need something at least 23mm (approx 1inch, bigger is ok) inner diameter to fit on the axel bar, and you want to cut it e.g. with a hand saw to be 24mm (approx 1inch) wide. Just hang it on the axel between the bins. This keeps them slightly separated and the brakes work fine, they spin freely too.
Time will tell how well actually composts.
