This Dehydrator Turns Food Into Snacks and Me Into a FullTime Dehydration Enthusiast!
I ordered this Rosewill dehydrator because I decided I’m now the kind of person who makes homemade jerky and dried mango instead of buying snacks like a normal human. And honestly? This machine is way more committed to my new lifestyle than I am.
First off, it weighs 2.8 pounds, which is hilarious because it looks like a serious stainlesssteel appliance that should require a forklift. But nope — it’s light enough to move around with one hand while you dramatically announce, “I’m making jerky.” The stainless steel trays, the metal housing, the whole setup feels solid, not flimsy. It’s like a tiny metal vault dedicated to drying fruit.
The versatility is where this thing really flexes. Eight fullsize stainless steel trays mean I can dehydrate apples, herbs, jerky, fruit leather, and probably my will to procrastinate — all at the same time. It even comes with mesh trays and fruit roll sheets, which is how I learned that fruit leather is basically a smoothie that went to boot camp.
The 400W rear fan is a monster. It blasts 360 hot air like it’s trying to banish moisture from the planet. Everything dries evenly — no sad halfcrispy, halfsoggy slices. It’s so efficient I’m convinced it could dry a wet sock if I let it (I won’t probably).
The temperature range (95–195F) and 48hour timer make me feel like a scientist. I set it, walk away, and let the autoshutoff handle the adulting. It’s the only appliance I trust to run overnight without turning my kitchen into a charcoal exhibit.
And the compact size? Perfect. It sits on the counter looking innocent, like it’s not capable of turning eight trays of strawberries into crunchy sugar confetti in one afternoon.
If you want a dehydrator that:
weighs almost nothing but works like a tank
is made of stainless steel instead of sadness
can dry everything from herbs to meat
and makes you feel like a snackcrafting guru
this is the one.
I bought it to make jerky. Now I’m dehydrating everything that doesn’t run away fast enough. My kitchen smells incredible, my snacks are elite, and I’m one tray away from dehydrating my personality.
Mostly geat dehydrato
I’ve been putting this Rosewill 6-tray unit through its paces for a few weeks now. As a guy who usually obsesses over airflow and thermal management in my PC builds, I was curious to see how this thing handled heat distribution. For the price, it’s a high-performer, but it’s not without a few minor annoyances that you should know about before hitting “buy.”
The Good Stuff: Airflow and Silence
The biggest win here is the dual-fan setup in the back. Most of the cheap, round dehydrators you find at big-box stores have a fan at the bottom, which is a design nightmare—you end up “cooking” the bottom rack while the top stays raw. This Rosewill uses horizontal airflow, meaning the heat moves across the trays evenly. I’ve done three batches of beef jerky and some dried mango, and I didn’t have to rotate the trays once. Everything finished at the exact same time.
It’s also surprisingly quiet. If you’ve ever had a server humming in the corner, this is much quieter than that. It’s a low-frequency white noise that you honestly forget is even running after ten minutes. I ran it for 10 hours overnight in the kitchen, and it didn’t bother anyone.
The Not-So-Great: Build Materials
Now, the gripes. While the main chassis feels like it can take a beating, the plastic trays are a bit of a letdown. They feel pretty brittle. I’m already worried that if I’m too aggressive while scrubbing them, or if I drop one on the tile floor, it’s going to shatter like an old CD case. I’d definitely skip the dishwasher and just soak them in the sink to be safe.
Also, the UI is simple, which I usually like, but the heat-up time is a bit sluggish. It takes a while to actually hit that 167F mark. If you’re doing meat, I’d suggest letting it “warm up” for 20 minutes before you start your timer to make sure you’re hitting those food safety temps right away.
Pro Tip on Cleaning
One design oversight: there’s no removable drip tray at the bottom. If you’re doing a sticky marinade, it’s going to drip onto the floor of the unit, and it’s a pain to reach in there and wipe it out. Do yourself a favor and slide a piece of parchment paper or a silicone mat on the very bottom before you start. It’ll save you a lot of swearing later.
The Verdict
It’s a “Set it and forget it” kind of machine, which fits my lifestyle. It’s not perfect—the trays feel cheap and the heat-up is slow—but the actual drying results are better than units I’ve used that cost twice as much. If you’re tech-savvy enough to appreciate good fan placement and don’t mind hand-washing the trays, it’s a solid investment for the kitchen.
Easy To Use & Plenty of Room
I’ve made a lot of beef jerky with this, and it works really well. It was easy to figure out, even though I’m not the most tech savvy. Setup was simple, and the trays give enough room to make a good batch. The jerky comes out good and dries evenly. It’s not that loud which really makes a difference running it all day. I like that I can set the time and temp and leave it alone. Great dehydrator for jerky or snacks at home.
Easy to make snacks in a compact package!
This is a 5/5 for exactly what it’s meant to be: a “set it and forget it” snack-making machine that quietly turns extra food into something you actually want to eat.
The dehydrated apples + sea salt + pumpkin seeds combo you mentioned is basically the perfect example of why these things stick around in a kitchen. It takes simple ingredients and turns them into something way more interesting without much effort—no additives, no mystery ingredients, just concentrated flavor and crunch.
Functionally, the 400W system with 360 airflow is doing the important work here. Even drying matters more than raw power in these units, and consistent airflow is what keeps you from getting that annoying mix of crispy edges and chewy centers. That’s where cheaper dehydrators usually fall apart.
The 8 stainless steel trays is a big practical win too. That’s enough capacity to actually justify running it in batches instead of constantly restarting it, and having mesh + fruit leather options means you can jump between snacks, herbs, and roll-ups without improvising setups.
The temperature range and long timer window (95–195F, up to 48 hours) is exactly what you want for versatility. It means you’re not just locked into one type of snack—you can go low and slow for fruit, or a bit higher for seeds, jerky-style projects, or anything in between. And the auto shutoff is what makes overnight runs actually comfortable instead of stressful.
Build-wise, the compact footprint + easy handling makes it feel like something you’ll actually keep on the counter instead of burying in a cabinet, which is half the battle with kitchen gadgets like this.
Overall: this is one of those “we didn’t think we’d use it this much, but now we kind of do” appliances. Simple concept, strong execution, and it turns everyday ingredients into genuinely good snacks with almost no effort.
Excellent dehydrator!
I love the way the door opens to help easily access all the shelves! Comes with many shelves with an array of varying spacing options. I love that it is so quiet! Very user friendly to operate! It is a large appliance, but has easy varying handles, so you can store it wherever’s convenient depending on how often you’ll want to access it. Very bright light (button) to peak inside, but huge viewing window regardless of using the light or not.
Great stainless steel/glass food dehydrator. Compact and versatile.
All my previous food dehydrators have been made out of plastics of some types or another. I love the all stainless steel and glass that this Rosewill food dehydrator has. I am a computer geek and have long liked the Rosewill name brand for quality computer hardware accessories and glad to see that they are moving into making great kitchen appliances as well. It is compact yet can hold lots of food to be dehydrated. You can set both the temperature as well as dehydrating time. It can be washed in a dishwasher and is quiet when operating. 400W of power is plenty for my dehydrating needs. Will dehydrate both meats as well as fruits.
HINT: Google the correct dehydrating temperatures and times for the foods that you wish to process and use the correct temperatures and times for the different types of foods such as meats vs. fruits and veggies to avoid possible issues with food-borne illnesses.
I could not be more impressed by this food dehydrator.
The quality of the machine itself is stellar; everything functioned perfectly straight away. I really like how clean and sleek it looks. The internal trays may be a little bit on the flimsy side, but they work. I might have liked them to be just a tiny smidge longer so they feel like the sit in the slots better.
The front fully opens for easy access, though I do wish it would stay open on its own; it swings almost closed unless held open, and it would be easier if the hinge was stiffer so I could use both of my hands to move the trays in place.
I love the easy to navigate interface; the heat and time numerals go up by 5 degrees and 30-minute intervals respectively.
The internal light is handy to get a good look at everything through the front door, and the top window is also a handy feature.
I am very happy to report that the machine is really, really quiet. I think my microwave makes more noise than this dehydrator does, which is a good thing considering how long it needs to stay on. I think it has a similar decibel to my portable air purifier, which I have near my head as I sleep, and that does not disturb me. I can only hear it running when I am right up next to it, so if I had it in the kitchen, it would not be a nuisance at all.
I keep the dehydrator in my basement laundry area, only because I have a very small kitchen with not a lot of storage or counter-space currently, but in totality it does not take up much room at all. It might be a little bit more than half as big as my microwave in width, and about the same depth. When I redesign my kitchen space, I will make sure to give this dehydrator a dedicated area, because I already am using it so much!
While the machine is running it does feel quite warm (keep away from where children or pets may touch it) but it does stand on its feet well off the ground for good air-flow, and the rear-facing fan whisks it away lingering heat well enough. The warmth was limited to a small area surrounding the machine. It is important to note that the general area around the dehydrator will have a mild scent in the air related to the thing that is being dried in it (the lemon was quite nice, but the mushroom was a little less so).
I also love the handle grips at the side of the machine, they really make it easy to lift, and it is not even that heavy to begin with.
My first experiment was with lemon slices, followed up by mushrooms and cherry tomatoes; each individually. There is a certain degree of trial and error, though the error really is just leaving the slices of things in a little longer. I have not experienced any troubles from leaving things in the machine for longer than any recipe suggested.
It can fit quite a substantial amount of material on its trays, more than I expected, which was a nice surprise!
Most foods take 8+ hours to fully dehydrate, so I suggest starting the process in the evening and checking on the progress in the morning. There is nothing wrong with leaving the food in the dehydrator after the timer has ended since the machine stops the heating process and remains in a standby/cool mode, so I could put some orange slices in at bed time, sleep the night away, go to work the next morning and come back to fully dehydrated and cooled orange slices!
The included recipe book is a good jumping-off point, though some of the verbiage is a little vague or awkwardly translated. I am very interested to try the dehydrator sugar cookie recipe though; I never even considered “baked” goods like that.
The drying is very even and everything I put in was in approximately the same state of dryness at the same time; I only experienced some things needing more drying time due to my user error of not being able to slice the things perfectly even and uniform. I will probably invest in a proper slicer to ensure more even cuts.
The machine is easy to clean, though I do not think there will ever be much in terms of stuff to clean off the interior of the machine; the exterior will just need a gentle wipe-down occasionally for fingerprints etc.
I highly recommend giving this dehydrator a try; I never would have known what a tasty snack dehydrated cherry tomatoes are otherwise. I also look forward to seeing what other small home kitchen appliances Rosewill offers!
Impressed with the quality and design so fa
My initial inspection and quick trial of this dehydrator has me looking forward to preserving my spring harvest even more than usual! I already have a basic, bottom fan type dehydrator that I use regularly, and also a countertop convection oven with a dehydrator function that I use more seasonally for larger batches I’m processing. So I had to ask myself if I needed another one, and after trying this one out the answer is yes – in fact this will now be the one I use most often for several reasons, turning the others into backups.
Here are some of my favorite features of this unit that make it worth your consideration: 1) It has a reasonable size footprint (see pics compared to my pressure cooker to get an idea – it’s a little bigger than that, but smaller than my bread machine), yet there is quite a bit of room thanks to the vertical stacking design of the 8 included trays. 2) Trays are made of stainless steel (not plastic!) and are a good thickness/gauge to feel sturdy, and are dishwasher safe which makes cleanup so much easier. They hold more than you think they will, see pic compared to a standard size dinner plate. 3) Rear fan design produces more even drying results than bottom fans, and as a bonus is easier to clean up since crumbs aren’t falling into the fan area, you just easily wipe out the bottom of this model. 4) This is so quiet compared to my other dehydrators! I had this running at the same time as my dishwasher (a late model, higher end Bosch), and the dishwasher actually sounded loud in comparison (it’s pretty quiet). I couldn’t believe how much quieter this is compared to both of my other dehydrators.
A few other nice things: there are a couple of silicone mesh mats included for small or crumbly things like herbs or finely shredded items (I bought some separately for my other dehydrator a couple of years ago and let me tell you, they are a game changer you do not want to be without, it’s a great bonus that they are included with this unit), the control panel is very intuitive (and there is a basic operating manual as well, actually printed out, not just online), and they even include a booklet of sample recipes (I’ll admit I had a little chuckle over a couple of them but it helps you think outside the box and open your eyes to things you might not have considered dehydrating before). There are probably other good things to list but I haven’t used it enough yet to know.
Overall I’m very pleased with the design and build quality of this model for the reasonable price point!
