Finally! A support pillow that works!
This reading pillow for floor and bed use is absolutely perfect! I have searched, bought more reading pillows and pillow sets than I care to admit, and nothing really did the job. This pillow helps in the following ways:
– outstanding lumbar support, and I really need that with three smashed lumbar discs;
– upper body sturdiness so it doesn’t smash out of place – upper back is supported;
– If I lean back, my neck can gently rest on it without making my head go into any particular position;
– It has a small footprint on the bed;
And
– It comes with a reasonable price tag.
The foam stiffness is medium, and it bounces back perfectly. No overwhelming foam odor that I noticed.
Believe me — I have tried the “ergonomic ” ones, the ones with long arms, the ones that come with leg supports, and other popular sitting pillows. THIS design beats them all.

I love this pillow and it’s exactly what I needed for spinal issues! It holds up my lumbar spine to help relieve pressure and the side support is great. Only 4 stars cause the upper back could be a bit thicker. I definitely recommend this pillow for back issues or just for comfort sitting up.
As someone who is chronically ill and spends a lot of days in bed, I like to use this pillow to sit up to reduce back pain and it’s worked absolutely perfectly. It’s comfortable and I feel like it corrects my posture nicely, it’s firm, but not too firm. I had been looking at a much more expensive version of this pillow, but decided to go with this one and I am completely satisfied with this one and see no need to get a more expensive one.
I often read in bed or on the couch, but building a mountain of pillows behind me gets to be a chore sometimes. Then if I get up to do something, inevitably one of my dogs or cats will have decided to take up residence in my reading pillow nest. If I manage to evict the adorable squatter, I have to readjust the pillow pile.
I’ve thought about buying one of the older style “husband” reading pillows, but they take up so much room, that I really don’t know where I’d put it when it’s not in use. And if I remember correctly, they didn’t have covers that you could take off to wash. Yuck.
It’s been 20 years since I last had one of those pillows, which I used a lot during college. I don’t know why I just assumed that those pillows hadn’t changed much aside from maybe now they’ve got faux fur covers and tablet/phone pockets.
But then I saw this reading pillow come up as an option to order via Amazon Vine, I was so excited to see this—and I can say that I *smashed* that “request product” button haha!
When it arrived, I unpacked it from its vacuum bag and it very quickly became the final shape. I knew it was going to be smaller/slimmer than the old type, but it still surprised me by how low profile it was. It’s as tall, if not taller than the older style, but significantly less deep. I wondered if this would provide enough support for a comfortable lean-back.
I’ve gotten enough vacuum packed foam things in my life to know that I should give it a few days to fully expand and firm up. Once it firmed up, I was blown away at how comfortable it was! It really does provide a nice reclining angle, and cradles my head/neck if I want to lean my head back a bit bc my arms are cramping from however I’m holding my book.
The one caveat is that it *does* need to be used against something else—the seat back of the couch, a wall, your headboard. The older style has longer arms where the weight of your arms sitting on top of them, and the weight of the pillow itself make it so the pillow won’t move anywhere. This can’t be used without something to lean it up against. But I don’t find that to be a problem, so the pillow is definitely still a 5-star product for me 🙂 highly recommend!
