Balanced, Portable, and Capable: A Solid Everyday Ligh
When it comes to portable lighting, finding a balance between size and output can be tricky, but this RGB light nails it. Featuring a super thin profile, it’s practically identical in size and thickness to a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, making it effortless to slip into a pocket or tech pouch. Compared to older compact lights—which were often chunkier yet struggled with brightness due to a lower LED count—this panel feels like a major step up. The larger surface area spreads the light out far more evenly, giving you a smooth, diffused glow right out of the box without needing extra modifiers.
In practical use, that wider, softer output makes a massive difference for quick phone photography, close-up portraits, and vlogging. The light output feels much more flattering and natural on subjects, avoiding the harsh hotspots common with smaller panels. Navigating the settings is smooth, thanks to the dedicated dual-dial design that lets you adjust brightness and color modes independently—a huge relief over single-button cycling setups. Plus, having 17 dynamic FX modes opens up plenty of creative options for short videos and creative content.
If there are any downsides, it’s that running the light at 100% brightness drains the 4000mAh battery fairly quickly, so keeping a power bank handy during longer shoots is ideal. The included cold shoe adapter is also pretty basic, so if you’re mounting it on a heavier rig, you might want to upgrade to a sturdier ball head down the line. That said, the ability to charge via both USB-C and USB-A (and even use it as a emergency power bank) adds serious real-world versatility.
For anyone who frequently shoots on a smartphone or a compact camera, this panel hits the sweet spot between performance, portability, and price. It offers high-end features and solid diffusion without taking up precious space in your bag, making it a very easy recommendation for everyday creators.
Surprisingly capable RGB video light - solid metal build
After spending some time experimenting with this NEEWER RGB Video Light, I think this is one of the stronger products I’ve tried in the NEEWER Basics lineup.
What I liked:
The first thing I noticed was the build quality. Unlike many inexpensive LED panel lights I’ve used in the past, this one has a metal (aluminum alloy) body rather than a plastic housing. It feels solid, durable, and more substantial than I expected at this price point.
The built-in 4000mAh rechargeable battery is another big advantage. Since it charges via USB, it’s easy to top up from a charger, computer, or power bank. The light is completely portable and doesn’t require wall power during use.
Lighting modes are surprisingly versatile:
The light offers three operating modes:
* CCT mode for adjustable white light (2700K–7500K)
* HSI mode for full RGB color control
* FX mode with various special effects
As someone who is more familiar with photography than video production, I found the white-light mode easiest to understand and use right away. Brightness adjustment is straightforward, and the color temperature controls make it easy to dial in warm or cool lighting.
The FX mode is actually quite fun. Effects such as lightning flashes, fireworks, and party-style lighting can help create atmosphere in video projects. I don’t currently have a major need for these effects, but I can definitely see how they would be useful for content creators, filmmakers, or anyone trying to add visual interest to a scene.
Controls require a little learning:
The one area where I think the “Basics” label shows is the user interface.
The controls are fairly minimal:
* Power button
* Mode button
* Selector dial/button
* Brightness adjustment
Once I figured out how everything worked, it was easy enough to use. However, there was a bit of trial and error involved because my unit did not include a detailed instruction pamphlet.
The HSI color mode also has a learning curve if you’ve never used RGB lighting before. Once I understood that the hue control cycles through a 360 color wheel, the color adjustments made much more sense.
Mounting flexibility:
The included cold-shoe mount is useful for attaching the light directly to a camera, and the 1/4″ mounting points allow it to be attached to tripods, light stands, or other accessories.
While I would have liked a small tabletop tripod to be included, I understand that compromises have to be made at this price. Fortunately, the standard mounting options make it easy to use equipment many photographers and videographers already own.
Overall:
What started as a light I wasn’t sure I would use has actually become one of my favorite NEEWER Basics items. It’s compact, rechargeable, well-built, and versatile enough to serve as:
* an on-camera fill light
* a portable photography light
* an RGB accent light
* a creative effects light
For the price, the feature set is impressive, and the metal construction makes it feel far more premium than many budget LED panels.
Well made with a lot of nice quality of life features built-i
This RGB light/effects light is descent build-wise, but I do want to note upfront that I’m not personally a fan of this particular style of fully enclosed/non-vented lights.
I’ve bought one’s like this from other brands and had overheating issues.
I’m unsure why manufacturers don’t put basics venting at a minimum to displace heat. The aluminum chassis can only do so much and it causes a lot of strains on the battery and other internals.
It seems that the only units you see with vents (and some with fans) are the more high-end models used see on television and film sets. I have a few myself and sure, they have magnets, light syncing, wireless charging and colour matching apps for mounting them on to walls, lamps and ceilings, but they’re not really cost efficient for those just wanting to blog or make videos for school projects. They’re nice features to have but also cost three to four times the price.
With this line of basics/entry level gear, what you’re getting for this price point and the size of it it’s not bad at all.
It would be kind of nice if it had come with a silicone diffuser, but it makes up with a lot of other positive points. The ad is also misleading because it references a feature found in the upgraded model of this one with Bluetooth/app functionality. The stock photo show music sync mode which isn’t something you can do on this model.
-It is that has two mounting points on it both for vertical and horizontal.
A great way to change the output and have control on various mounting systems.
-They put a colour wheel on the back
This is a really nice feature you don’t really see. Having this tool saves you scrolling through hues on the RGB colors.
For those new to lighting and art, colours are referenced/adjusted by degree. The wheel just helps you know/visualize the position you’re trying to reach for a hue.
It’s nice to have a reference point so you’re not just cycling through in one direction and can orient which direction you need to go.
-It has its own dedicated button for mode
A lot of the other ones I have don’t have that that extra dedicated button. Most just have it a power toggle, the spring loaded button/half-wheel with a push button buily in (usually how you switch modes in other models if you hold it), and the 360 full wheel for intensity level.
It just nicer and faster to have a button to change modes.
-Large battery that lasts
One weird thing I noticed is there a delay specifically when adjusting the kelvin temps in CCT mode. It’s a one to two second delay, but it’s not really going to affect you in and way with production.
It’s a good sized unit that covers quite a bit of an area with light, and it’s definitely a lot brighter than some of other type I own.
I just wish it had vents as I’m more weary than most because of a near miss with another brand. It was a fully enclosed casing similar to this one and the heat build-up degraded the battery after a year which caused it to swell and break the entire front from the aluminum casing. I’m just lucky it didn’t rupure and cause a fire.
It’s just something to keep in mind and if a unit gets hot, periodically check for buldging or separation in the case.
I hoping there won’t be any issues with this unit in the future, but if there is, I’ll be sure to update the review. So far this light only gets warm to the touch after about 20mins on the right side where the display is.
I think the larger over build does help drastically compared to the smaller lights.
Compact and Powerful On Camera Ligh
I have been using Neewer products since before the Neewer Basics line was introduced, and this light continues to show the quality I have come to expect from the brand. It is a very well built and reliable light that works great for a portable video setup.
The light feels sturdy while still being lightweight. It includes a cold shoe mount, making it easy to attach directly to a camera or rig. The mount can also be removed, allowing you to use the standard 1/4 thread if your setup requires a different mounting option.
On the back, the built in LCD screen makes controlling the different lighting modes simple. It supports CCT, HSI, and FX modes, giving you plenty of options for different shooting situations. The metal housing feels durable without adding unnecessary weight, and the battery performance has been impressive. During my testing, I was able to run it for about an hour and still had battery remaining.
The physical controls are another nice feature. It includes dedicated buttons for power and mode selection, along with two adjustment wheels that let you control brightness, color settings, and navigate through the different FX effects. Charging is also convenient thanks to the USB C port.
Overall, this is an excellent portable light for anyone looking to add quality lighting to their setup without carrying extra bulk. It is well made, versatile, and a great option for video creators who need a reliable light while traveling or shooting on location.

Promossissimo.
Solid, Durable, Good Quality RGB Video Ligh
This light features a compact metal LED panel that provides excellent lighting control for its size. The CCT mode allows adjustment from 2700K to 7500K with brightness control from 0% to 100%, which makes it easy to match different shooting environments. The HSI mode adds full RGB color adjustment with 360 hue selection while the FX mode includes 17 lighting effects for more creative video applications.
A 4000mAh capacity power bank and an aluminum alloy body that feels durable keeps the light portable. At approx 5.9″ x 3.1″ x 0.5″ and 8.3oz, it’s compact enough to store in a camera bag without taking up much space. The various mounting options also add flexibility since it can be attached to compatible cameras through a cold shoe adapter or placed on a tripod with mounting in portrait or landscape orientation, via the 1/4″ mounting holes.
The controls are simple and intuitive to operate, a positive toggle power switch, a mode button, a selection dial, and a rocker switch. The clear display screen makes it easy to monitor your current settings. As a reasonably priced ‘Basics’ model, there is no app support or wireless control, but the physical interface is easy to operate manually.
Overall, this is a well-crafted light and is outstanding for an entry-level accessory. The metal chassis is an efficient heatsink during extended use, keeping the unit cool without the need for a noisy internal fan. It eliminates the gimmicks of costlier alternatives and delivers where it counts.
For the price, I think this is a really great little pocket LED to take with you on a video or photo shoot. The Neewer Basics line is some of my favorite equipment because you get a lot of performance on a budget, and this light is no different.
The model I have is the SL90c RGB LED camera video light. It comes with a hot shoe mount and has two mounting points on the light—one horizontal and one vertical—so you can mount it several ways. It has both a USB port and a USB-C port, which are both helpful.
There are four switches: one for power, one to change modes, a dial switch for color temperature, and a dial switch for light intensity. All of these feel pretty solid, work well, and can easily be adjusted one-handed.
The light intensity is pretty good for the size. I find it decent as a quick little backlight or fill light in a pinch if you’re shooting at your desk or doing simple vlogging in darker environments. That being said, if you try to use this outside on a bright day, you won’t really notice it. A pocket light like this is much more useful for darker interior environments, and in those situations, it’s super helpful.
Battery life is pretty decent. At 50% to 75% intensity, I get about 30 to 45 minutes of use (naturally, higher intensity drains the battery faster). The power is about 9W and the battery capacity is around 4000 mAh, which feels accurate based on my run time.
It also comes with several diferent modes. There’s a mode to dial in a specific color, plus scene modes like fireworks, party, lightning, paparazzi, faulty bulb, explosion, welding, cop car, candle, and various flash and pulse modes.
One thing to note is that the front panel isn’t super soft. The light coming out is pretty direct and a bit harsh, so don’t expect a super soft key light out of the box.
Overall, the all-metal body feels robust in my hands, and it slips right into a backpack easily. It performs great and functions exactly like I thought it would. For around $30 to $40, I think a pocket LED light like this is a wonderful investment to throw in your bag for when you need it.
Optimal fr Nahaufnahme
Klare Kaufempfehlung!
Compact, Bright, and Highly Adjustable
This is a very nice LED camera light for filming interviews, vlogs, and other videos. I was immediately impressed by how much light it produces for such a compact unit. It is small and lightweight enough to carry with my camera equipment without taking up much room, making it convenient for filming away from home. There is a great amount of control over both brightness and color temperature. I can adjust the light from a warm tone to a much cooler white, which makes it easier to match the existing lighting in a room or create the look I want. The RGB controls also provide a wide selection of colors for creative lighting, backgrounds, or adding an accent to a scene. It includes several built-in lighting effects as well. I probably will not use all of them regularly, but they are fun to experiment with and could be useful for certain video projects. The display clearly shows the selected mode, brightness, color temperature, and remaining battery level. There are a lot of settings, so it takes a little time to learn the controls, but they are straightforward once you become familiar with them. The built-in rechargeable battery and USB-C charging make it convenient to use without running another power cable around the filming area. Overall, this is a bright, portable, and highly adjustable camera light. It is especially useful for interviews and vlogging, but it is versatile enough for product videos, photography, and creative lighting effects.
