Solid construction, birds love it – squirrels not so much . This is a great bird feeder that’s easy to fill. I’m sure it will eventually rust but it’s a great value.
Sturdy, well made, easy to fill, good size! So far it is Squirrel proof – if they climb up the pole – but if they hang from the roof down they could get the seed. I have a squirrel feeder so they are occupied with that for now lol Its not Deer proof! They empty it at night so I only fill it about 1/3 of the way.
Sturdy, attractive feede
I am so excited to see how well this works. It’s a very sturdy bird feeder – I chose the RED color! Beautiful. I love it. I have some large birds – starling, grackles etc – I’d like to slow their eating habits down! They gobble so fast and this should slow them down a bit. Also wonder if their weight will cause the eating window to close. But it is pretty firmly spring loaded so it may only help if squirrels would try. Update later!
After a couple weeks, I finally saw some birds using it. The squirrels tried, but fell off the feeder. There really is no way to tell if the feeder compartments’ bar would actually close down with the weight of a squirrel. When I pushed it down with my hand it seemed to offer more resistance than a fluffy “Rocky” squirrel would be capable of. The seed is getting wet at the compartment openings since it is hanging on a branch of my big leaf maple tree. I don’t have any place to hang it out of the rain. I am keeping it. It is attractive and semi-functional for now.
I rarely leave reviews, but I had to with this. I purchased this for my mother who is a nursing facility. She loves to watch the birds, but the squirrels would empty her feeder in just a couple of days. This one has been up for two weeks and still has bird seed in it. The squirrels cannot get to it. They now only get what the birds drop on the ground. I highly recommend this feeder.
This feeder is “pretty” squirrel proof. These rascals are extremely smart and don’t give up. They will jump up and eat the small amount of food the birds leave behind. We have found that greasing the poles with Vaseline does deter them.It’s impressive how much feed it holds. So far the wrens and cardinals have figured out how to use it. The woodpeckers have no interest in it.
