I really love all my smart devices from Meross. I think it was five years ago, I was having trouble with a lot of the devices on my Apple HomeKit installation. Many were constantly losing connectivity causing me to delete them from my smart home, reset the device, and reinstall them into HomeKit. I asked a friend of mine who is just as serious about home automation as I am which brand of devices he was using. He immediately replied Meross. I bought my first Meross device a few days later and have been a loyal user ever since.
Naturally when Meross had came out with a their MS600 Smart Presence Sensor, I had to give it a try. I should say that I had another brand’s product years ago, and well, that product has been sitting in my home automation scrap heap for the same number of years. I was excited to see if the MS600 was better. I wasn’t disappointed.
The product didn’t say HomeKit on the box, but said Matter. I knew that Matter enabled devices work with HomeKit, so I wasn’t worried. You shouldn’t be either. There’s a QR code on the side of the device that the Apple Home app read and installation went without a hitch. In fact, it was probably the fastest responding device I’ve ever installed. *Although it’s also the newest and we all know technology is continuaously improving.
I chose to install the presence sensor in my laundry room which is exactly where that failed sensor had been installed years before. My idea was that I often walk in with both hands full carrying a laundry basket and having a sensor detect me entering and turning on the light would be truly helpful. Note that the MS600 can be setup to sense a human’s presence or a light condition, which really makes it versatile depending on the implementation you need. I needed to be hands-free so I chose the presence, and when from there. The Home app knew what kind of device it was and prompted me to create an automation with it, which I did. I tested it and everything worked perfectly.
All that remained was mounting my new sensor. The Meross MS600 had everything I needed for that right in the box, including wire management. No other manufacturer ever provided wire management. These guys are brilliant. I’ve attached a picture to give you an idea. The cable is ample in length, about six feet. Literally within five minutes, the whole process, software and hardware was complete.
I couldn’t be happier with my purchase, and I highly recommend the MS600 Smart Presence Sensor and Meross in general for all your smart home needs. Things like the supporting Apple, Matter, Google, and Alexa flawlessly, as well as the cable management being included are all signs of a company that is really focused on customer satisfaction and loyalty. That’s the kind of company I want to support and whose products I want to use and recommend. NOW… GO GET YOURS!
I’ve been using this sensor by “Meross” . It’s a human presence sensor. Well, it’s actually allot more than that. It has PIR, uses mmwave radar and is compatible with ‘Alexa, google home and home assistant”,
The package comes with a power adapter for usb to c-type. The units back will open up to install the power cable or to be used as a stand for it. Pretty nice option. It also comes with several sticky type connectors/holders so you can secure your power cable to wall or wherever. Unit does not use a battery as i think this wouldn’t help much due to so many things this unit can do. It would probably drain pretty quickly. The power cable could be a little longer as the 6 ft cable does limit where you can set unless using an extension cord, IN my opinion that is.
The app which you will be using will be their ‘Meross’ app. The app is really leaded with several features i didn’t expect with a cheaper prices unit. You can setup sensor to work only at a certain ‘Lux’ from light . This way, it has to be so dark to say, ‘Turn on the basement step lights’. Or maybe has to see several seconds of activity before turning this on or maybe an outside light. It has sensors that actually seperate the movement and the ‘Person’ actually pretty nice that it can detect this. The one thing i thought could maybe be improved upon was the shield you get to put over the bottom or 180 deg of the lense so that you won’t be detecting animals movements. In case maybe using as security light or alarm. The lense actually just pushes up against lense and there is a little square piece of tape that holds it in place, from what i can tell anyhow. I was maybe thinking that if there was a groove around the lense then maybe that cover piece could snap into place and be held. But that being said, not a huge issue since most don’t have that.
All in All, this is a very nice product that actually does/did allot more than i thought it was going to. Several changeable options to accommodate how you will use this product is always a plus. Several changeable app options that came welcomed. Again, very nice product.
Would i purchase and buy this product ? Absolutely…
Since i also like to include ‘Arrival’ times on reviews, I’m happy to say that this product arrived when it was supposed to with no issues .
I’ve been using the meross 3-in-1 presence sensor for a few weeks now, and it’s easily one of the most reliable sensors I’ve added to my smart home. The combination of PIR and mmWave makes a noticeable difference—unlike standard motion sensors, this one can actually tell when someone is still in the room even if they’re not moving around. That alone solved a lot of the false “room is empty” automations I used to run into. I also love that it integrates with my Apple Homekit to allow me to use SIRI to create control scenarios.
Setup was straightforward. I’m using it across multiple ecosystems, and the Matter support really does make it feel more stable and responsive. I’ve had zero issues with lag or dropped connections. The adjustable mount is also more useful than I expected; it made it easy to position the sensor exactly where I needed it without drilling a bunch of holes.
Presence detection range and motion detection are both solid. It picks me up consistently from across the room but hasn’t been triggered by my dog since I installed the pet shield. The built-in light sensor has been great for more refined lighting automations as well.
One specific scenario I am using the sensor for is in my home music studio: mostly because I’m notoriously bad about leaving gear powered on when I walk away. Some of my equipment is expensive and I don’t want it running for hours just because I forgot to flip a switch. At the same time, I didn’t want a setup that kills the power the moment I stop moving—sometimes I’m sitting perfectly still while editing audio, or I step out for a minute to grab coffee. With this sensor, I was able to set up an automation that checks whether the room has been empty for 30 minutes and then does a soft, orderly shutdown of everything. The combination of PIR and presence detection has been accurate enough that it never shuts things off while I’m quietly working, but it also hasn’t missed a single time when I truly left the room. It’s solved a problem I’ve had for years without me needing to babysit anything.
Overall, this sensor does exactly what it promises and fills a gap that basic motion sensors can’t. If you’re building out a smart home and want more accurate automations, this is a great choice.
Overall, I’m impressed with this device. Pairing was brain dead simple – I love Matter devices and HomeKit because I don’t have to futz around with 2.4 vs 5.0 ghz bands and that sort of stupidity.
Pairing was done through the Meross app, in part because proper setup needs the app vs. pure HK. Would prefer that this not be the case but I think part of that is due to Matter being behind the curve in terms of what it allows.
The pairing was straightforward and I especially loved the smart scan feature made available through the app. You place the sensor, step out of the room, and let it scan. Takes less than 2 minutes and once it’s done you don’t have to deal with zones or room designs or whatever (Aqara sucked because of this requirement and it worked like ass). I was able to set up a couple automations to allow me to test the device and they worked well. The response to presence is less than 15 seconds (small room) which was great. Response to lack of presence takes about 30-45 seconds, which is a bit long in my opinion, but probably reasonable given that you don’t want it constantly turning off.
The one issue I’ve encountered (in my less than 8 hours of testing randomly) is that it failed to detect me at one point during my session in the study. Maybe I am a shallow breather with a really slow heart rate or I am really good at playing possum, but the sensor did fail to detect my presence while I was working. When I moved, it retriggered presence so it’s not a huge deal. I run into similar issues with my presence sensor at work.
I will probably get another one to allow me to automate my master bath and my basement. But so far so good. Only 4 stars because it’s not battery operated. Will revisit the review in a couple months to see how it goes long term.
Update:
I wanted to come back again and say how AWESOME this sensor works! It is performing so much better than I was expecting based on my experience with other occupancy sensors. Using the app, you can tweak this thing to be so accurate, it’s unbelievable. PRO TIP- do not learn this into smartlife/tuya at all. Scan it directly into the HA Matter integration with your phone (barcode on the device). It works perfectly that way, but only that way.
My only complaint/suggestion— if meross could expose BOTH the motion AND presence sensors to Home Assistant, it would be absolutely unbelievable! I love when a product works like it should!

Original Review:
I have zigbee devices but they’re not always perfectly connected, so I wanted a presence sensor that wasnt zigbee. This device almost instantly connects to Home Assistant via Matter over Wifi, and it works EXTREMELY well. I installed the meross app to fine tune it for my room and it works waaaay better than another brand I had that recently stopped working with HA due to firmware update.
The only downsides are that since it’s connected via Matter, it only exposes 1) light level and 2) presence/no-presence, and also the minimum timeout is 30 seconds (wish I could make it less). It doesnt give distance or zone info, nor motion versus presence (although it does via the app). It combines motion and presence into one entity. For my needs, this is fine and I couldnt be happier! I even have it installed behind a cabinet door and it senses me entering the room around 25-30′ away!
A very high quality presence sensor that is well worth the money!
When I first read about presence sensors it seemed like a solution in search of a problem. I have a smart home setup using Home Assistant with over 60 devices and I wasn’t sure where a presence sensor would fit in.
I first tried a product from a different company and disliked it pretty quickly. It was flimsy and not well made. After coming across a review of the meross Presence sensor I decided to give it a try, and I’m very glad that I did.
It is a high quality device with excellent craftsmanship. I could tell the difference from my first purchase immediately. Setup was very simple and I added it to my system as a matter device. To be honest, I wasn’t sure at first how I would incorporate it in my smart home but after tinkering with it a bit I setup an automation in Home Assistant to turn on some lights in my house when I get up at night for a snack. What sets it apart from a motion sensor is that it picks up on me sitting on my couch and doesn’t turn the lights back off until my presence is no longer noted. It picks up on your presence very quickly and I no longer have to worry about stumbling around in the dark.
If you are looking at purchasing the meross Presence sensor but aren’t sure if you really need it, my advice would be to make the purchase. You won’t regret it.
I recently purchased the Meross Matter-Compatible Human Presence Sensor for my living room, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. This little device has exceeded all my expectations and absolutely deserves a glowing five-star review!
The sensitivity of the sensor is incredible—it detects even subtle movements with precision, ensuring the lights and smart devices respond instantly. I’ve noticed zero false triggers or missed detections, which really sets it apart from other sensors I’ve tried. Installing it in my living room was effortless, and it integrated seamlessly with my existing Matter-compatible smart home setup.
What I love most is the peace of mind it provides. Whether I’m relaxing on the couch or moving around the room, the sensor keeps my lighting and automation perfectly responsive. It’s reliable, accurate, and adds a touch of convenience that makes my smart home feel complete.
If you’re looking for a dependable, highly sensitive human presence sensor that works beautifully with Matter, the Meross sensor is an absolute winner. Five stars without hesitation!
