The woodpeckers love having their suet in this feeder. Even a chickadee or two enjoy the suet in the feeder. Easy to fill and clean.
Sturdy. Squirrels don’t bother it. One night a raccoon got it off the hook and enjoyed the meal. I sometimes now put it in a bucket inside the back porch at night to remove raccoon temptations.
Quite satisfactory
Both myself and the woodpeckers are happy. Only tweak I make is to secure the top with a wire tie, otherwise the squirrels or raccoons pull it off. Would buy again.
Strong and easy to hang
Very strong but easy to use. Easy to hang, refill and clean. Good stability. I saw a downy woodpecker use it and another one, a big woodpecker that comes around used it once but I’m sure the bird fed on it when I wasn’t home also. I think it attracts birds. I am happy with the product and I recommend it.
Great Purchase!
This bird feeder is well made and beautiful. The birds can easily get the food and have a resting spot as well. I have realized that there are usually birds on both sides of the feeder enjoying the suet!
Larger birds are not attracted and that's a bad thing.
I bought this to replace a wooden tail prop version that had seen better days. On the old one the tail prop was as thick as the wood throughout and regularly attracted larger birds [Cardinals, Jays, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Pileated Woodpeckers, etc.]
This one is plastic and the tail prop is a thinner piece hanging from the bottom. The larger birds don’t like it all.
After one month I am seeing nuthatches, chickadees, tufted titmouse, etc. Smaller birds only.
I am 99% certain that the difference is the thinner tail prop.
It works ok for the smaller birds, which is nice, but I miss the big boys.
EDIT: I added another star because the seller contacted me [twice!] to follow up on my comment above. I salute their customer service and desire for full user satisfaction.
Almost Bear-proof!
Great feeder! My woodpeckers love it, as well as my nut hatches, jays, cardinals, creepers, and sapsuckers! Unfortunately, the raccoons, oppossums, and bears do, too. It has withstood them all for a couple of years until this year; one of the bears broke the hanger. I recommend this feeder.
Well produced product.
This is a well produced product and is easy to fill and hang. It took a while for the woodpeckers to get used to it but now they are really enjoying the suet blocks.
Nice quality and I like the tail prop feature. Beware, though, if you have squirrels – they will chew through any feeder made out of recycled plastics – not healthy and makes a big mess. I wasn’t going to ding the mfr. for this, of course – it’s a good product for the right situation. I just had to get one that was all wire and that my squirrels could not remove the suet. I miss the tail prop feature, though, that this one has. Definitely nice for larger birds. Cleans easily in dishwasher.
