Holds two bricks, is very sturdy, easy to fill and the birds are loving it. I hung in tree branch base hangs a little more than 5 feet from the ground.
Great Suet Holde
The woodpeckers love it. It is so easy to add more suet. Very durable. Keeps the little birds from eating all of it. The Starlings have a hard time eating from it but still keep trying.
Well designed and sustainably sourced
This large suet feeder is thoughtfully designed and made. Very sturdy. Holds 2 suet cakes to accommodate larger woodpeckers, but other clinging birds like it too. The bonus is that it is made from recycled materials. The metal grill is hefty. Highly recommended.
What a DEAL!! Absolutely Durable, Best Purchase
Absolutely love the quality!! Used to think these were so weird looking, chunky, but after owning them, the Cardinals, BlueJays, and Woodpeckers LOVE them and it suites their size better, and they are not constantly falling or fluttering to stay on! Best purchase from Amazon. What a deal you get two feeders!!
I really rely on reviews to help me decide if these products would be right for the birds or not and I wish more people would go into detail about the product. So here I go honestly trying to help the next.
So I absolutely loved this suet feeder when I first got it. All my birds, woodpeckers and even my pileated woodpeckers loved it bc of being able to prop their tail and being comfortable eating the suet. Unfortunately the squirrels loved it too. And would chew and chew on this making huge notches all surrounding the cage for the suet. But they never did get into it. I had it for over the summer and I kept it cleaned and wiped down. You can take out the bars that hold the suet out of them by sliding it out so you can really get it clean. Well I didn’t know the cage bar could slide out. So unfortunately around August the woodpeckers and birds got less and less until none at all. From where I thought I couldn’t get to was becoming disgusting and moldy. I found out as I was throwing it out so the birds didn’t get sick that the bars came out! But by then it was too late. I just needed to start over. And I noticed a cat hanging around out back at the neighbors so all my beautiful birds and woodpeckers have stopped coming to see me. It was the only thing that brought me joy.
But for you, your birds will love it!! A little squirrel protection but they will eventually gnaw right to it. The capacity is wonderful, it holds 2 large suet cakes but not pellets. The appearance is whatever, when you love birds all you care about is if they like it and is it safe. The appearance is normal and bland. And it’s not rain protected. It has a little hangover, but it will get wet and make everything soggy. So clean promptly before that black mold sets in. And it’s well worth the money but It really depends on how good u clean it and if your squirrels are persistent day after day if it’s going to make it long!! Definitely give it a try my fellow bird lovers you won’t be disappointed with the different birds that will come to the suet feeder.
Dont hesitate
This works so well! Fits 2 suet blocks so it lasts awhile. Plenty of birds come to it and I left it empty out for the summer with no problem. It will hold up well in any weather. Recommend!
I wanted a suet feeder big enough for larger woodpeckers and this is perfect! My biggest concern after reading reviews was whether or not the suet cakes would fit. The ones I have fit just fine! I think any suet cake 4.5 x 1.5 inches or smaller would fit. The ones I get are 4.25 x 4.25 square and about 1 inch wide, so there’s no problem. I can see where a different brand could be bigger, though, so measure beforehand!
Once you’ve determined your suet will fit, don’t hesitate! This suet feeder is excellent. Solid study plastic that will last and is easy to refill and clean. I’ve seen Downys, Hairys and Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, and all my smaller suet-loving birds use it (Pine Warblers, Carolina Wrens, Ruby-Crowned Kinglets, and Tufted Titmice). I haven’t seen a Pileated Woodpecker use it yet, but I think it’s big enough to accommodate them without a problem.
The hanger is strong and solid. It’s easy to lift it off the hook the way the loop is made . The tail prop is great and something I had a hard time finding in plastic suet feeders at this price point.
Oh, and if you’re wondering–the brown stuff on the side of the feeder in the video is spreadable suet. The birds seem to love it!
I love this feeder, and so do the woodpeckers! I see several different types of birds coming by to eat from this feeder, and the design of the feeder allows for very clear viewing of the birds while they feed. I like the natural look with the body of the feeder being brown, and I love that the feeder holds two suet cakes, so it doesn’t need to be refilled as often. I haven’t had it for too long, but it seems to be very sturdy, and the design seems to protect the suet cakes from the rain. The feeder is extremely easy to hang if you have a hook available, and it’s not particularly heavy. I would recommend setting it up in a way where there’s squirrel protection, as the squirrels seem to love the suet, and the feeder itself is not squirrel resistant. This is a fantastic feeder for a good price, and I would definitely recommend it!
Highly recommend getting - quality is incredible
I was skeptical because of the price, but once I got the product, it was so incredible and nice. The cages slide out, and everything is so neat and beautiful. Kudos to KingsYard; they’ve done it yet again. Downy Woodpeckers love eating from it and our invasive house sparrows also eat most of it, but none of that has to do with this suet feeder. If anything, he shows just how many birds love it.
However, I ‘m not gonna lie, the downy’s love eating more from a separate single cage suet cage I have without anything, especially the downy that’s in the trees. This one is out in the open pool in the middle of the backyard so honestly it’s not that the other suit feeder they’re like better just that the sword feeders in the trees and they have branches hiding them and it’s high up. It’s on my deck on one of the top branches of my apple tree but it’s a real treat to have one in your trees as well, like in front of a window where you can see it. That’s where the real fun is. And you can even interact with them once they get used to you. It’s so cute. But yeah, this big one is beautiful as well. Put it on a branch near you, let it hang, and you’ll definitely get some fun visitors. Really well made and I love it.
Best Suet Feeder Eve
I absolutely loved the Kingsyard Extended Tail Prop Suet Feeder for Woodpeckers. It was incredibly well made, sturdy, and clearly built to withstand the elements. In fact, it was apparently so durable and desirable that a raccoon decided it was worth stealing! The little bandit managed to knock the feeder off a seven-foot garden shepherd hook and drag it deep into the woods somewhere, never to be seen again. I’m now wondering if your lifetime warranty happens to cover “theft by raccoon.” All jokes aside, I loved this feeder so much that I immediately purchased another one on Amazon.ca because the birds — and apparently the local wildlife — couldn’t stay away from it!
