Love the HP Smart Tank Printe
This is the fifth HP printer I’ve used for my home. Each one has been better that the prior one. I really like the easy set up and use, although we did have some connection issues with my wife’s Chromebook computer. Still working on that issue.
The ad for this printer talks about 3 years of ink but I can’t seem to figure how that works. There was no infinite during setup and the ink levels are noticeably down after a few months of routine use (average about 50 pages a month).

Noor Aseema was awesome. I had trouble setting up on my own, I called C/S and spoke with Noor. She is amazing stayed with me the whole time for the connection and setup. High quality prints, amazing printe
The refillable ink tanks are the real win for this printer, you literally flip the bottle in and let gravity do the work, no squeezing, no mess, exactly as described. Print quality is great for everyday documents and colour pages, with sharp text and rich colours . Wireless setup quick and smooth and once it’s connected, printing from a phone feels instant. The transparent ink windows are a nice touch too, you always know how much is left just at a glance. One downside is that it’s definitely larger than you expect for a home printer, and you’ll want to make sure you have enough space for it on your desk.
The HP Smart Tank 6003 is a good all-in-one printer. Setup was straightforward, print quality is good, and the wireless printing, scanning, and copying features work well. However, I am giving it four stars because the claim of “up to 3 years of ink included” feels misleading.
Where are the extra ink bottles needed to keep filling the printer for three years? The black ink goes down much faster than expected, especially with regular document printing. Unless you print very little, I do not see how the included ink will realistically last three years.
Overall, it is a solid printer, but buyers should not base their decision on the three-year ink claim. Expect to purchase additional black ink sooner than the advertising suggests.
a smarter Smart Printer than the res
Magnificient! If there was one word to describe my experience with this smart printer, that would be it.
I don’t usually gush over a product, especially a printer, but this printer has changed some aspects of my mobile business for the good.
My use for this printer is going to be different than what many others will and may use it for.
My main purpose was to find a printer that was compact enough that can be used as a portable printer for my mobile service and repair vehicle.
This printer weighs in at approx. 14 pounds/6.3kg which is not too bad, as it can easily be carted around from field location to field location.
I needed this printer to print invoices, diagrams, schematics, and manuals, amongst other things.
I did have a thermal printer prior to this, but it was slow when needing to print multiple pages and just wasn’t as professional.
With all that said, I have been using this in my service vehicle for over 3 weeks, and it has been nothing short of stellar.
There are a couple stand-out features, one of them being the Wi-Fi Direct functionality.
The ability to connect directly to the printer without needing a Wi-Fi router is simply amazing. This is not new technology, as the Smart printers have it, but it is new to me, and I just love it.
I have fully tested this feature out by sending invoice print jobs to the printer from as far as 30 feet away.
A couple times it failed to print due to concrete wall obstructions, but that was easily corrected, and it printed like a champ.
The ink reservoirs in this printer are fairly large, and the entire 70 ml ink bottle fits easily with some room to spare. Same with the 135 ml black ink.
The rest of the setup and installation was fairly easy. For me the best feature of this printer is the swapable printer heads.
Though I must note that when opening the RGB printer head, there was some magenta leakage from the print head. (photos below).
These print heads are pre-primed with ink at the factory, so the seal must not have been as tight as it should be. I watched this print head closely over the last 3-plus weeks while doing tons of print jobs on the road, and it never leaked again and was all good to go.
The biggest benefit for me is that my service vehicle can be a little dusty at times, and the ability to switch out print heads is a bug plus.
No more having to clean them with alcohol swabs when they get clogged (old printer nightmares)
No more downtime or me having to drive around trying to find a Staples for my printing job needs.
Easy maintenance and repairability—can’t beat that.
The print quality is excellent as a document printer. Can’t say it’s superb as a photo pinter, but it is pretty good.
I have a dedicated 6-color large-format photo printer that I use for printing framed photos. I compared full-color prints from this HP to it, and it was surprisingly good. Good overall color, the blacks are not quite as deep (my 6-color printer has a grey ink for midtones), but the overall luminance is at par.
The HP Smart Printer app was super easy to use and very straightforward.
All major printing, scan and copy functions can be made via the app including double-sided printing.
The last detail worth mentioning is this printer takes less than 40 watts to operate. An in-auto cig lighter inverter will run this printer with no issues. It will also operate fine with a portable battery inverter.
I have always trusted HP to be my printer…I have owned them for over 30 years. This printer is great, as usual, and having the ink tanks is a big plus! It was easy to set up and so far has worked flawlessly!
