I have several bird baths and they have either a solar fountain or a plug in. I was intrigued by the battery operated agitator. My first impression was it was a lot more work go set up than my others. It does not come with batteries. You have to remove four screws with the included Allen wrench to get to the battery compartment. The wire stands are fairly simple to install, but its lighter than my other fountains. It has a mushroom appearance to it. It works well in a shallow bird bath as the top can’t go under water. Its also on the more expensive end for bird fountains. This item doesnt have the stability as the plug in fountains. So yes, it does work as its intended. But with needing to be more careful about getting the top wet and the time that it takes to change the batteries, I don’t see the benefit for me.
This bird bath water agitator is a great way to help keep the water fresh and prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. The agitator takes 2 D batteries (not included). When it is turned on it turns a little auger that agitates the water (see the video). The copper disk claims to help keep the water more fresh. I am not sure how that works but I am going to keep an eye on the water quality and confirm or deny the claim over the next week or so. I will update this review if I find the claim is in error. The quality of these items is very good and they look as if they will last quite a long time. The copper disk measures approximately 4″ in diameter, the agitator 5.5″ in diameter. This is a really good find and value for the money.
This product does agitate the water as described. And it does come with two copper discs which I do find keep the water cleaner longer. Especially in the hot summer months. I kind of fell for the picture that shows water splashing around the agitator but that does not happen. It just creates some gentle little waves. If this could run by solar power it would be perfect. But be use it uses batteries, it’s not really cost effective to run this all day. You will be replacing the batteries often. You can manually turn it on and off for as little time as you want, but that defeats the purpose. Also, you have to use the hex key for all four screws and remove the whole backing every time you want to replace batteries. Ugh. I probably would not choose this againit’s kind of expensive for such a simple idea, and the overall cost with batteries isn’t appealing. But it does what it claims to do and is well made.
I just bought a new birdbath and noticed it was getting stagnant and dirty so quickly so I picked this up to help with that.
I love the functionality and versatility of this device as it could work in a wide bird bath or a smaller one. You can even place it in fairly deep water as long as it doesn’t reach halfway up the device.
The appearance is not jarring and off putting for birds or the general aesthetic of the backyard but you could easily paint something on top.
The screws were easy to remove and there is an ease of use that can’t be compared to other bird bath water circulators.
I also love the weight of your device once the batteries are in it, adding to the stability.
And lastly, the size is perfect for my current bird bath.
One other thing to note are the two copper discs which actively purify the water and attract birds.
