I was torn between giving this a 4-start or 5-star rating. The reason being that while I really like the little bird bath, the fountain is too strong for this particular bird bath; the water tends to go outside the bowl, draining it pretty quickly. I experimented with the pump using each of the 2 nozzles that came with it, and also without a nozzle. I found that not using the nozzles works best, and the water seems to be staying inside the bird bath now. My photos show different shots of the fountain working, using the different nozzles, and the last image is without a nozzle. The pump has to be placed off-center in order to keep the water from going outside the bowl. I have a video clip, but for some reason I was unable to post the clip.
Even though I was having that problem with the pump, I really like the bird bath, which is why I settled on my 5-star rating. It’s pretty; it looks like brushed copper. I love the fact that it has holes spaced all around the outside, giving birds a place to really grab onto to perch. As I always do with bird baths, I also added rocks inside the bowl so the smaller birds can land inside with no problem. I’m hoping this will attract my hummingbirds. As many hummingbirds as I have around my house, I’ve never been able to get them to use a bird bath. But I know they like fountains, so fingers crossed.
I had been worried about how long the cord is because there is nothing in the description showing the length. Not even Alexa could answer that question. I worried in vain because the cord is a nice 9 1/2 feet long (114 inches). I was able to place the bird bath where I wanted it alongside my pond and still easily reach an electric outlet.
All in all, this is a really nice bird bath. Even if I decide to not use the fountain, I will still keep the bird bath out there. However, since I seem to have hit on the perfect positioning of the pump and the water is not being pumped out, I will continue to use the pump.
I have mine on the ground, but it would also be nice sitting on a picnic table or end table outside. I don’t have any place like that close enough to an electric outlet, so those options are out of the question for me. With the design of my yard, running an extension cord would not work because it would have to cross an area with heavy foot traffic; it would be a trip hazard, but it really would look pretty sitting in the middle of my patio table.
