I got this embroidery stand because I thought it might be a more convenient way to do cross-stitching compared to a regular hoop. It’s quite big. The quality is great, with excellent fit and finish. I found it was not as easy to use as I would have liked, being about the same hassle as an embroidery hoop. It’s nice that you can place your work on the desk, but it can also be inconvenient to move because the stand weighs a lot. Overall, this is a good product, but it costs quite a bit at $33 and I still prefer regular hoops because they’re lighter, cheaper, and take up less space.
This Alnun Kici Adjustable Table Embroidery Stand will hold large pieces of embroidery stable and taught while you work on them. It comes with two sets of rods: one 16 inches long and the other 12 inches long. So you can make it wider or narrower to fit your piece. It comes with 8 plastic clips for clamping the fabric onto the rods. The bent edge of each clip fits into the groove on the dowel. (See photos.) They also throw in a cute wrist pincushion and a metal thimble. Once set up, there is plenty of room for your hands to move under and over the embroidered piece.
Some simple assembly is required. Instructions with diagrams are included. Assembly takes less than 5 minutes.
“Adjustable” is a bit of an exaggeration, given that the only factor that is “adjustable” is the choice of 12-inch or 16-inch rods. The length of the rods is not adjustable, and they do not function as rollers. When I first saw this item, I thought that “adjustable” meant that the fabric could be rolled onto the rods. It can—manually. The flexible plastic clips should still fit up to a certain thickness. But your piece is not on rollers like a scroll. You will have to take off the clips and roll the fabric onto the rods yourself each time you change the embroidery area. The clips are really designed to hold only one thickness of fabric, not two, three, or several. So if you are working on a large piece, you may be forced to let your ends dangle—so that they just get in the way.
Wooden adjustable tabletop embroidery stands can be had for $20 to $60. Most of this type cost $20 to $30, although you can get them for as much as $37 or as little as $12 each if you buy a two-pack. At the list price of $32.99, this embroidery stand is priced above the normal range. At the “coupon” price of $29.69, it is priced at the top end of the normal range. The price isn’t outrageous, but you can get identical stands for a lot less if you look.
This is a good solution for keeping large pieces of embroidery taught while you work on them. The stand is well enough constructed out of wood, with metal screws and plastic wing nuts. The flexible plastic clips will securely hold the fabric in place—up to a point. (If your manual fabric roll becomes too large, they will not fit anymore.) The included cloth-covered foam wrist pin cushion and the metal thimble are nice touches. But they’re not worth paying a premium price for, unless you really need them. Very similar embroidery stands can be had for a third less. Happy stitching!
Simple to assemble and use, holds canvas securely
This solid wood adjustable needlework table stand is quite nice. Do note that “adjustable” refers to the ability to adjust your canvas on the scroll-style crossbars of the frame (tighten or loosen it, roll the canvas up or down) and/or change the width of the frame by swapping the crossbars between the long and short ones (13.9″ and 17.3″). The stand’s height or angle isn’t adjustable; it’s always the same height and angle. This stand can be used on a desk/table or as a lap stand.
The rods and frame are made from solid wood. The wood is lightly, but nicely, sanded; it is bare unfinished wood so you can stain or paint the stand if you want to, although I advise against painting/staining the crossbars due to risk of paint/stain transfer to your canvas. The crossbars are loosened/tightened via included large plastic wingnut-style knobs.
The plastic clamps hold my canvas securely on the grooved cross bars; my canvas hasn’t slipped or shifted at all. The clamps are a bit fiddly to snap onto the cross bars but once you get the hang of it, it’s simple to do.
I do wish this came with some sort of storage bag, but I am also more than capable of sewing myself a simple storage bag for it, heh. It’s a pretty big needlework stand so it doesn’t store easily unless you take it apart (which is quick and simple). A storage bag would be nice so you don’t accidentally lose pieces, especially when you take it apart for storing. It does come with a simple basic pin cushion (with wristband) and basic ring-style thimble.
Overall, I’m happy with this needlework table stand. While it’s marketed specifically for embroidery, I have been able to secure a needlepoint canvas onto the frame securely, although the clips took bit more effort to snap into place on the crossbars/scrollbars. I think this is well made, I like the solid wood, it’s easy to assemble, holds my canvas securely, fairly versatile and is reasonably priced.

Easy to assemble. Comes with two different sizes of dowels in order to make your table stand smaller or larger and is easy to adjust. Clips are easy to attached and the added pin cushion and thimble is nice. This is sturdy and does not wabble. This will fit small to medium sized project. I like that this is not too heavy and is versatile with being set on a lap, table or desk space.
Helpful embroidery stand for cross stitch
This embroidery stand is proving to be very valuable for my cross stitch work. It allows me to see the whole piece while I work which is an improvement over my small embroidery hoops. I actually don’t sit at a table to cross stitch, but this stand is lightweight yet sturdy enough to be held in your lap and easily moved around. I flip mine over to check stitches from the back all the time especially when I get a knot in my floss. Just keep in mind that it isn’t made for very small projects so check the stand size before buying. It was easy to put together, and while I prefer using the longer rods, the shorter rods would allow you to work on a narrower piece of fabric. The rods are easy to swap out, and it is easy to adjust the tightness of the nuts on the screws at each end. The small pin cushion is handy so you don’t lose your needles when changing out thread, and the thimble will be helpful if you use one.
Just a couple of tips from this user: first, read the instructions on the Amazon product page! I spent way more time trying to figure out how to make the fabric as tight on the stand as I wanted it until I figured out my own way. When I looked again at the product page, it explained how to do it in an easier fashion. Second, if you should misplace one of the wingnut-style knobs, it can easily be replaced with a regular nut or wingnut in metric size M6-1.00. I learned the hard way! I look forward to future projects on this stand because the wood is smooth and doesn’t snare my cloth, and it keeps me from handling the cloth so much while I stitch.
