I am really impressed with how solid and well designed this bird feeder pole is. The height gives great visibility in the yard while keeping feeders safely off the ground. The multiple hooks make it easy to hang different feeders, lanterns, or decorations all in one place. I especially like the included trays, which add extra feeding space for birds to gather. The base feels strong and stable once secured into the soil, even on windy days. The adjustable sections make it convenient to customize the height as needed. The black finish blends nicely into the landscape without being distracting. Assembly was straightforward and did not require complicated tools. Overall, it creates a tidy and attractive feeding station that makes bird watching even more enjoyable.
Love love these Shepard hook posts! This one will be the third in my large collection of many styles of Shepard hooks, all of which are in use in my yard. I don’t have this one fully assembled yet, as I’ve just received it & am currently in the process of clear coating it with a rust protector/metal sealer. While I can’t speak 100% I guess to this specific one, the other 2 I have like this are nearly identical & also from Amazon. Those two have developed rust really quickly in the joints. So where you screw the poles together, or the arms/hooks that you attach & use a pressure based screw for, that area is prone to rust. The last area I’ve dealt with rust is the connection point of the two ground stakes. The one piece with the 2 loose stakes that goes over the 2 stationary stakes attached to the pole, the metal does run at that connection & scrapes the power coating finish just as you initially set it up. Any area that factory coating gets scratched or compromised, will develop rust & it doesn’t take long. I give all this info based on my experience with my two identical poles like this one, purchased from other Amazon sellers. With that experience though, I learned that just spray painting a couple coats of a rust preventative metal sealer, is likely to save you from that rust happening in the first place & it just takes a couple days. Most of that is the process of allowing your spray to fully dry & properly at though, the spray painting process is only a few min for each coat. All that aside, these are fantastic poles! I love how extra tall they are compared to your average Shepard hook. You have the option to use all 4 arm hooks, or you can just add 2, all based on your needs. I have many bird & squirrel feeders that I hang with these, not to mention solar lights & other fun yard decor. Adding poles like these & hanging feeders & lights from them is what makes your yard fun, attractive & cozy. This pole comes with a designated water & seed dish too, which is a cool addition. This & poles like this do usually come with a squirrel baffle, which I do not attach. Without preaching a paragraph about this, I will just say.. squirrels are not a nuisance! They are hilarious, adorable, guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone who welcomes & accepts them. Squirrels are important to our environment, as 75% of trees exist because a little squirrel made it happen. Also, trying to fight them off your bird feeders is a never ending & losing battle! They are seriously persistent & want that seed just like the birds do. The answer is to just let them eat & enjoy their antics. You can also provide them with their own food in their own feeder & they will likely loose interest in your bird feeder. Lastly, another cool part of this pole is the top plate mounting option. On my other two like this, I mounted these decorative bird houses on top. They are not functional bird houses because the entrances are too small for the birds in my area, but they are very pretty, & I consider them to be like pieces of art. Plus, I have many real bird houses already up, mounted higher in the trees. So I use these poles for aesthetic purposes & also to hang my many bird/squirrel feeders.
Good value for the money. However.
I really enjoy this birdfeeder as it attracts numerous types depending what kind of seed we put in. But there is one major flaw. The cone to prevent squirrels does not last. The squirrels chewed the hell out of the protective cone within two days and we were able to climb up into the feeder so I purchased a different metal cone and it’s worked very well.
