I had been using the famous brand name (rhymes with tester) solder for years, but I just couldn’t see spending $10 more a roll for it.
This solder seems to work just fine. The joints are nice and shinny, melts and flows like a champ. Smoke isn’t any worse than the others.
On the roll it states it’s made here in the USA! I was surprised!
I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a pound of 63/37 solder, at a reasonable price.

Made a ton of gingerbread for our annual family gingerbread house competition and dozens of cookies. This worked exactly how I expected it too and absolutely love the adjustable rolling pin. Highly recommended and a great price!
Great quality, but not perfec
I have been using Kester and multi-core 60/40 for a long time, and even though this solder is not as easy to flow as the two brands I mentioned it is still very workable, so if you are looking to save some money – go for it! On the other hand, unless you are manufacturing tons of circuits from home and hand-soldering them (why would you?!) one pound of solder can last you half a decade, so it might be wise to spend an extra 10 bucks 🙂 either way, I am certainly not regretting getting this solder.
This solder melts very nicely. Because of the metal composition, there is a very small range of temperatures between fully solid and fully liquid, so it is easy to get nice solder joints with this composition. Other than that it’s pretty much just solder. I might say it seems to smoke less and splatter less in the sponge than some other solders I’ve used, but that could just be my imagination.
Where has this thing been all my life?
OK, I’m an older guy and we older people hang on to old stuff! Just the way it is. But when I wanted to control the thickness of my Keto flatbread and pizza dough, our regular (50+ year old) rolling pin just wasn’t doing it. I saw these on Amazon and thought, “Yes! That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!” After checking around at the many offerings of similar items, I settled on this one as being the best value for the money. Works GREAT! And if you use the included silicone mat with a couple sheets of parchment paper… there is NO CLEANUP!
A little hint for those trying to roll out heavy Keto dough: form it into a ball, put it between two sheets of parchment on a sturdy table or countertop, and use a large, heavy cutting board to squash the living daylights out of the dough! It will still need rolling out, but it will now be a nice oval shape that you can work with! 😀
What is there to say about this? It’s solder. It’s SN63PB37, a eutectic mix, which makes for better joints and easier soldering (in theory…in practice, I agree). That means that the tin and lead both solidify at the same temp, vs not in 60/40 mixes. It’s a 1LB spool, which should last me until I lose it. I really don’t see myself running out anytime soon. It was available with Prime shipping, so I got it VERY quick, as usual.
It’s thin enough for the work I do, yet not so thin I need an inch or two for every joint. It was relatively cheap. If I ever run out of this spool, I wouldn’t hesitate to get more of the same. If I needed thicker or thinner solder, I’d stick with this brand too.
