Magnetic Portable SSD for Phone Recording, Rated Speed Needs the Right Po
This is a 1TB portable SSD with a magnetic back, aimed largely at iPhone users shooting ProRes video, where internal storage disappears in a matter of minutes. The magnet lets the drive ride on the back of a compatible phone rather than swinging off the end of a cable, which is the real problem it solves.
That rated 2000MB/s figure requires USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 on the other end, and this is the catch worth understanding before buying. Most computers and every iPhone run slower interfaces, so actual speeds land well under the headline number depending entirely on what you plug into. That is not a defect, just how the standard works. The aluminum housing earns its place too, since sustained writes generate heat and heat is what makes any drive throttle.
Confirm your device supports the port speed you are paying for, and check that the magnet actually holds your phone with its case on, because case thickness kills magnetic grip quickly.
If you’re an iPhone creator looking for a no-fuss external drive, this one checks a lot of boxes. The physical design is compact and thin, which makes it easy to toss in a bag or keep on hand during a shoot. Build quality feels solid and durable, and the MagSafe attachment is strong and snaps into place confidently. The included USB-C cable is quality, not a throwaway afterthought like you sometimes get with accessories.
Performance is where this drive really delivers. Data transfers are fast, and it handles large Apple ProRes file sizes without breaking a sweat. Recording video directly from the iPhone to the SSD works seamlessly out of the box, which is a huge relief if you shoot a lot of ProRes footage and constantly fight with iPhone storage limits. No third-party apps, no software subscriptions, nothing extra to set up. You just plug in and go.
The exFAT formatting means it plays nicely with Windows, macOS, and Android from the start, so there’s no reformatting headache if you switch between devices. The drive also looks sharp, with a premium aluminum and glass housing that gives it a polished appearance without feeling fragile. The cable organizer doubles as a wrist strap, which is a small but practical touch for keeping everything together on the go. Highly recommended if you need a reliable, fast, and well-built portable SSD for mobile content creation.
Nice SSD for smartphones
This NUSYN brand portable SSD is a nice, purpose made accessory for smartphone or tablet users that may need to transfer/store a lot of files or photos from their mobile device to a drive that can then be connect elsewhere for file transfer.
The small palm size makes it fit nicely into a pocket or purse without taking up a lot of room. The small strap also allows you to secure it so its not likely to be lost. Most impressive is the MagSafe design, which isn’t something that I’ve seen before. This allows users to slip the SSD to the back of a smartphone while plugged in to allow more freedom of movement when in use.
I can primarily see this if one likes to take a lot of photos/video for work that would eat up the phone’s native storage space. This is a moderately priced way to allow for more storage space that is also not unwieldly or encumbering.
I’ll also admit that the reason this is only getting 4/5 from me is the speed. You’re mainly paying for size and magsafe convenience. The speeds top out at right under 2gb/s. Its a respectable speed, but far lower than a dedicated SSD in a separate enclosure/sled could give you. It would work just fine for PC use, and certainly well for games that an emulator would use for older generation games like PS1/PS2 or older, but there may be some lag time with modern games.
Fast, Magnetic, and Truly PlugandPlay Excellent Portable SSD
This 1TB magnetic portable SSD is an amazing little gadget. It’s completely plugandplay across all my devices — iPhone, laptop, and desktop — with no setup or formatting needed. The USBC / USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 connection delivers extremely fast transfer speeds (up to 2000MB/s), making it perfect for large files, backups, and even iPhone ProRes HDR recording.
The build quality stands out with its aluminum + glass housing, giving it a premium feel while staying compact and lightweight. The magnetic design is especially useful for mobile recording or keeping the drive secured during use.
Overall, this SSD offers excellent cost, value, and performance. It’s fast, reliable, and works seamlessly across multiple platforms. A great portable storage solution that’s easy to carry and even easier to use.
