Very attractive The wood is stained, so the grain shows up very nicely.
There is a hook mounted on top so you can hang it, but there is also a hook on the back so you could mount it on a wall, with hardware that’s included in a small plastic bag (there are no entry holes in the back; they are all on the front and sides).
Each “apartment’ has a clean-out hole on the side or back. The hole is covered by a small wooden square mounted with one screw, so that it pivots on the one screw for easy access. The wood square is cleverly dimensioned so it’s corner just clears the wooden ledge under it. (See photo). Since the item is new, it obviously doesn’t need cleaning right away — but I suspect on old toothbrush would be very handy for the cleanout job.
The design details of this bird apartment house are really impressive. There are even small drain holes in the floor of the front porch of the main “mansion” so rain water won’t collect there. (However, it might be an idea to put some string in the holes to ‘wick’ off the water and to keep dirt from clogging the holes.)
One concern I see is that the peaked roof of the center section goes down to the vertical side of each of the side sections, so that with rain Isuspect the water will run down inside the cubicle and possibly cause the wood to deteriorate eventually. I may try to caulk that area on both sides of the main roof, just as a precaution.
Be assured, there is nothing that has to be assembled !! It’s all put together right out of the box. And put together very well indeed — no gaps anywhere, and everything is square and flush.
It might be a bit late in the season to be attracting birds for nesting, but I plan to hang this from a large branch of the dogwood tree that is right above my birdbath. The birds will have water, and in the fall they will have a tree full of dogwood “berries” which seem to be very popular.
Great birdhouse, sturdy hangers - needs instructions or suggestions for use/mounting
My mom is an avid bird watcher and hobbyist so I ordered this for her birthday gift. The construction of the bird house is sturdy, real cedar wood, and the mansion-style design is very nice looking. The house seems well constructed and I didn’t notice any raw or splintery edges, it was well finished. There are 2 hanging options – one triangle hanger on the top middle, and one on the back at the top. The hangers are secured with 4 screws. My only gripe about this product is it did not include any suggestions for use/hanging/mounting or any installation instructions. I’d expect there would be at least one hanging suggestion and a note about placement or care of the wood over time.

I love this bird house! It’s simple but very charming, and the multi-hole design makes it both functional and visually interesting. It really does look like a little apartment for birds, which adds a nice decorative touch to my garden.
