Wire shelving is great because they are sturdy, heavy duty and relatively inexpensive to install. However, the wire grids provide an uneven surface for storageand small items may fall through. I got these white PVC covers (brand:JINANJUNGU) to remedy the above two issues.
These white covers are functional, easy to use and they look great! The smoothflat surface keeps everything stable. In the mudroom, I didn’t use the included 90-degree brackets on the front because: 1) I want to extend the shelf depth by 2.3″ and 2) I need the front horizontal support wire rod to hang a lot of accessories on S-hooks. Having a front white cover though would enhance the appearance of wire shelving, it would make it impossible for me to use the hanging storage space.
To customize the fit of these boards on the mudroom wire rack, I had to cut short one board. Originally, I tried with a utility knife. This could be done but too laborious. To speed up the process, I made the cut on a miter saw and then taped the 3 boards together (on the underside) before placing them on the shelf. I’m totally satisfied with the look and the smooth edges. These PVC boards are rigid, sturdy, easy to wipe clean, and waterproof. They are of the perfect thickness and sturdy for keeping our household items such as paper towels, tissue boxes, kitchen supplies, disposable cups, etc.
I will customize the remaining 2 boards for use in the linen closet. I love to be able to produce a proper fit. However, I can’t help but wondering… The 90-degree bend is held together by a thin layer of PVC or vinyl veneer, they may break apart over time. Fortunately, this won’t affect us as they will be laid flat on our wire shelves without the bends.
I planned on putting these on the shelves in my laundry room. They create a solid surface so smaller items don’t wobble around or fall through the gaps in the wire shelves. They also make the shelves feel sturdier overall. The one thing I’d recommend is making sure your shelf dimensions closely match the size you’re ordering. If you have shelves that are an exact fit, these work great and look nice. In my case, I had to place multiple panels side by side to cover the shelf, and the results weren’t quite as clean as I had hoped. The material itself is very good quality. It’s rigid, easy to wipe clean, and has a nice wood appearance that looks much better than bare wire shelving. They also seem durable enough to hold heavier laundry items without flexing. I think these are a good value if your shelves match the available sizes. If you’re trying to piece several panels together to cover a larger or odd sized shelf, I’d probably look for a different option. But for the right sized shelving, these work very well, are easy to install and make wire shelves much more functional.
