A blast from the past!
This brings back great memories!! They’ve brought Monkey Ball back and it’s just as good as I remember it!
They’ve added a spin dash like Sonic has and a few other tricks, but it still plays the same… And is still just as crazy frustrating as ever, but feels so satisfying when you beat one of the nutso levels 🙂
Muy divertido
Exelente juego, lleg en perfectas condiciones tanto la caja como el diskette, tambin tena un cdigo el cual es por una skin de uno de los personajes, sper recomendado el juego para las reuniones
Look, it’s May 2026. Adequately far from the original video game release. But Nintendo Switch is one of the only consoles I bother to collect physical editions for, so let’s get into the physical aspect and let professional outlets review the game itself.
First off, this title advertises a “reversible game cover”. Okay? So then where’s the spine label like the reversible cover included with Square Enix’s “Collection of Mana” and Sega’s own “Sonic Superstars”? Collection of Mana offers the standard Nintendo Switch aesthetic on the US release’s “reversible” cover but “Collection of Mana” in the JP region release reminds me of this game I’m reviewing. Alternative art? Yes. Technically reversible? Yes. But no iconic red spine label background with standard white text.
So where does Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Launch Edition stand in reference to a reversible cover attempt by the same company (Sega)? Using the previously mentioned “Sonic Superstars”, it falls short merely because there is no spine label text that even remotely indicates its welcome on your bookshelf. Maybe “Sonic Superstars” uses a blue background on the spine and a non-stock font for Switch games, but this format would likely have been accepted worldwide. For those unaware, US and EU region games use a different “stock” font. Past this, US region has the font “left aligned” (text begins from top of label) and EU region is “center aligned”. Neither US or EU releases agree on font or text alignment, so a non standard format for all regions probably would have been well received.
Criticism out of the way, what went good?
Well, this title came with a cardboard sleeve usually only found on Steelbook Switch releases. Is it a steelbook though? No, it’s not, but I’m okay with that. This cardboard sleeve and the standard plastic case provided just enough ample room for the included artbook.
That’s pretty cool! And because this sleeve exists, the lack of a “red spine label” reversible cover makes a precious complaint trivial. If you like keeping your collection as complete as possible, you’ll at the very least keep the cardboard sleeve. It would become a problem for post-retail sale collectors still, however. Hard to guarantee a sleeve like that after a game has had its heyday. So it’s still a little bit of an annoyance, but I hope future games will learn from it. I can’t be the first to express my honest opinion on the matter anyway.
I’ve been a fan of Super Monkey Ball since the Nintendo GameCube days. Happy to own one part of the series for Nintendo Switch. It’s a classic that only Sega can do right. Highly recommend for fans new and old alike.
I used to play this game on GameCube in my teens so when I saw it for the switch I was beyond excited! It came securely packaged and unopened. I forgot how tricky the game itself is but man is it fun to play and its almost exactly like it was on the GameCube.
Not all fun and games, you gotta use your brain!
Super Monkey Ball has long been a favorite, and this release is no exception. It offers fun and challenging gameplay for kids and adults alike! This is not a game you can just barrel through without taking time to think about strategy.
