We use soaker hoses to water areas difficult to reach with sprinklers. All our previous ones developed big leaks after a year or were destroyed by raccoons and skunks who seem to love dragging them around and biting them. This hose is tough, lays flat and has staples to hold it down. Brown color looks good. Has a nice fine spray with many holes. Better coverage. Like the connectors to extend the length.
Everyone needs one of these - should be their slogo because it's actually true!!
Wow – have to get more of these!!!! …using them all over … in vegie gardens … flower gardens .. wow .. turn on the main hose and go sit n have a beer while I water – this hose is the best invention ever!!!! …and I love the pegs it comes with – very – very handy!!!
This hose would do fine as a sprinkler hose, providing it doesn’t have to make any turns. It’s not possible to make turns and keep it flat, so the water sprays in unintended directions. Other than that, it seems to be decent quality.
I’m in the process of setting up my first ‘real’ garden, complete with lots of (sometimes costly) mistakes and do-overs. One mistake I made was buying all these black round soaker hoses to try to water things efficiently, as we live under year-round water restrictions. But my first efforts have been mostly hardscaping, shrubs and small trees and the like, and those round soakers just don’t get the job done for those plants. These, on the other hand, do a really nice job.
What do I like about these?
1. The flat shape makes it easy to lay it out without any kinks.
2. Hose is marked on the side with the holes, so it can be used as a sprinkler, or as a drip hose. I always put the hole side down toward the soil, as that is better for the plants and reduces water waste.
3. It seems to be pretty sturdy so far, and I’m able to use it with a hose splitter, and an in-line timer if I want it.
4. The flat shape means it covers nicely with mulch, to protect it from the sun and help it blend in.
5. My shrubs are happy!!! I’m using about 100 feet (another order) to water along a ridgeline, and the shrubs really appreciate it so far, without evident waste. I’ve got two of these 25 foot lines in my tree beds next to the house, because I don’t want to drench the soil next to the foundation, and the trees are pretty happy so far, without the soil seeming anywhere near as wet as when I was hand-watering.
There isn’t anything yet that I dislike about these, but I’ve only had them for a few months now, so we’ll see how long they’ll last. One of my black round soakers already sprung a leak, so I ended up purchasing leak repair tape for that. I’m sure those will not make it through more than a couple of seasons; hopefully these will fare better!
