The sign arrived new and ready to work in the two-ground post version as ordered. I tested that the sunshine autosensing function worked to turn on and off automatically, which it did. This is how we put our sign to work: Before putting it into the ground, prepared two, schedule 40, 1 1/4″ inside diameter, 2-foot-long PVC pipes bought from the local hardware store. These would be the soil contacts and the sign’s legs would fit inside the pipe, thereby not causing stress on the legs or sign body and permitting removal to do maintenance. Those two pipes were drilled with 1/4″ holes crosswise about 2″ from the top so a rod could be inserted to remove it from the soil or to turn it for whatever reason. Put a dollop of paintable caulk to close the 1/4″ holes until a future need and before painting the pipe tops. The exposed pipe ends were painted (about 6″) the same gloss black as the sign legs. Close the bottom end of the pipes with strong tape, use a rebar, steel probe or auger to open the dirt area the size of the outer dimensions of the pipe and 20″ depth. Our steel probe marked the way down, and our drill bit-auger lifted the dirt out. If the ground is dry, soak with water before auguring to soften it, like we do in Arizona. Pound the pipes in place using a rubber mallet on a wood block atop the pipe, obviously having measured the pipe separation to that of the sign legs and align the pipe plane to the direction desired for the sign face. Insert the sign; it should slide right down. By tugging the pipe tops, make the sign sit level and square in the desired direction. The narrow air gap between the pipe top and the sign leg can be closed with Plummer’s putty or oakum. To enhance earth contact, because the sign is not touching the soil itself being inside the PVC pipe, and to provide against sign theft, bury a rebar horizontally parallel behind the pipe location and fasten solid copper wire between the rebar and one leg of the sign. We used screw band hose clamps 1/2″ x 1 1/4″ on the rebar and sign leg with stripped wire ends for good contact.

To set address numbers without the spacers for a smoother front look, inset the numbers into their slots and slide them to look nice. Move one number at a time a small nudge and with a touch of goopy adhesive on a toothpick, deposit goop under the slot rail where the number’s tip will be when nudged back in place. Dried, the goop will keep the insert from sliding when tilted, blown, or dog-tailed but not tightly so it can be removed if desired. Consider putting a touch of goop under the end piece as well, sufficient to keep it in place.

It lights up bright at night with solar charge. It’s been through 3 heavy rain storms. Color can be either a yellow light or bright white light. Numbers are easy to assemble. Cute little design at top too. Great value.
