My wife and I ride down to the beach on our bikes every weekend in the summer. I am a pale white guy and this canopy has been such a game changer.
I typically have to over apply copious amounts of sunscreen because bringing a canopy would be too hard on the bikes. This canopy is super convenient and lightweight. Our first time putting it up took maybe 3 mins, we thought we were going to look stupid like we didn’t know what we were doing, but it was super easy and just worked. Go watch a YouTube video of it, so simple, but has worked every time. Definitely worth it if you want a light weight, easy and portable solution for shade.
This is an outstanding product, for years we have tried beach umbrellas, and several other styles. This product is light, easy to set up and very effective. I really don’t feel like it would work well for four but for two with a cooler it’s excellent! I highly recommend it to any one who normally goes to the beach with one other.
We bought the Shibumi after arriving at our beach vacation and realizing that our current beach canopy was a problem in the 25 mph-plus winds on the beach. We could barely get it up and then keeping it up was problematic.
The Shimbumi was a lifesaver. Set-up is easy even in strong winds and take-down is even easier. One day, after taking it down in the wind, we found that a group of 5 people had been watching us. They said, “It took you longer to put your chairs in their bags than to take the canopy down. It’s amazing.” We agreed. We also had other conversations about it throughout the week. I think Shimbumi owes us a commission.
It’s easy to shift and move when the wind changes direction.
The addition of clip-on sandbags to help on less windy days is genius.

We used this canopy at the beach, and it exceeded our expectations. It was incredibly easy to set up in just a few minutes, even with only two people. It provides a large amount of shade, which kept our family comfortable throughout the day. The fabric is high quality, and the design handled the beach wind much better than a traditional umbrella. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and packs away neatly. If you’re looking for a durable, hassle-free beach shade that is quick to assemble, I highly recommend this product.

BUT you need consistent wind. Without a sea breeze it’s completely useless. To the designers: adding some holes or clips to the sail to allow it to be tied back in case of no wind would make this more consistently usable.
The Shibumi Shade 3.0 Version | Sunset Edition has completely changed our beach trips! The setup was incredibly easy and honestly took about 3 minutes just like advertised. No struggling with complicated poles or anchors — once the wind picked up, it practically set itself up with the Wind Assist feature.
The Sunset Edition colors are absolutely beautiful and stand out on the beach. It provided plenty of room for our whole group, and the 150 sq. ft. of shade comfortably fit several chairs, bags, and coolers with room to spare. I also loved the UPF 50+ protection because we were able to stay out longer without worrying about too much sun exposure.
It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and much less stressful than traditional beach tents or umbrellas. If you spend a lot of time at the beach, this is 100% worth the investment!
If I could give this shade 10 stars I would.
Anyone that has carried a days worth of gear to the beach knows what a pain an umbrella and pole are to carry. Plus once you get to the beach, you are forever messing with it to stop it from blowing away. The Shibumi canopy fits in a 4 pound, 26″ long small soft sided bag with a carry strap that easily hangs on your wagon, cart or shoulder. It sets up in minutes, covers a LARGE area! No extra tools needed for setup.
All it needs is the smallest breeze to work. There has always been more than enough breeze on the beach. Works great in high winds too. We used ours in up to 25 mph winds with no problems.
Such a great product! My only regret is they came out with the Sunset color a couple months after we ordered ours in the classic Ocean color. 🙂

I bought the Shibumi shade after comparing it to other options like the ShadeSock, and it has been absolutely fantastic for our family beach trips. We’ve used it multiple times on our recent Gulf Shores vacation, and it performed perfectly every time.
Setup is incredibly easy — I can honestly set this up by myself in about four minutes. No complicated poles or frustrating instructions. You just anchor it, let the wind help fill it, and stake it down. It’s so straightforward that even on windy beach days it goes up without a fight.
It’s also quiet for what it is — unlike many shades that flap and rattle loudly in the breeze, the Shibumi stays relatively calm and stable. It creates a nice big shaded area without constant loud noise, so we could actually relax, read, and let the kids play more peacefully.
Takedown is just as simple — at the end of a long beach day, it collapses and packs away quickly. No wrestling with tangled fabric or stubborn frames. It fits back into its carry bag easily and doesn’t take up much space in our RV or vehicle.
The shade provides excellent coverage and blocks the sun effectively while still allowing some airflow. It’s held up great through several full days of use, including some breezy conditions. We paired it with our portable beach chairs and it made for the perfect family setup.
