Everything looks tightly sealed to prevent corrosion on the inside. I dropped it into my inground setup, and it floated perfectly level. The primary function of alerting the house works wonderfully. The indoor receiver paired up without any complicated synchronization process. I placed the receiver on my kitchen counter. To test the system, I threw a heavy watermelon into the deep end. The water displacement triggered the floating sensor immediately. Within a split second, the receiver in the kitchen started emitting a very loud warning tone.The eighty-five decibel rating is accurate; the sound is piercing enough to wake me up from a deep sleep in the adjoining bedroom. My setup is exposed to a lot of direct rain as well. The device is fully sealed, so I do not have to run outside to cover it up when a heavy downpour starts. It just stays out there doing its job. This pool alarm does work and does what it claims to do. The plastic feels reasonably high quality, and the unit seems durable enough for outdoor pool use. The battery compartment has a weather seal that is not especially thick, but it looks adequate. Pairing took a little effort, but once I got it set up, the pool unit and indoor receiver both worked.
The alarm is decently loud, but not extremely loud. I could hear it nearby and probably from the next room over, but I would not count on hearing it several rooms away or through closed doors. I do like that the alarm sounds both on the floating pool unit and on the indoor receiver, since that gives you an alert inside and outside.
The biggest drawback is that this is not really a “set it and forget it” product. Every time people are using the pool, you need to turn it off, and then you have to remember to turn it back on afterward. There are sensitivity settings, but I could still see wind, waves, or pool movement causing false alarms depending on the conditions. Also, because it detects motion in the water, it is not a perfect solution for every pool shape or layout. If the disturbance is too far away from the unit, or if the pool has separated areas, the movement may not reach the alarm strongly enough.
Overall, this is a useful safety backup, especially for parents or pet owners, but I would treat it as an extra layer of protection rather than something to fully rely on by itself. It works, seems durable enough, and provides some peace of mind. My main hesitation is the price. For how lightweight and simple the technology seems, it feels a bit overpriced, even though the job it does is important.
