Generalman is probably best known for making high quality replacement lights for swimming pools. Given that their lighting products are all first rate it’s not a huge surprise that this pool alarm is a cut above the competition. The form factor and functionality is no different than most alarms of this type–if unexpected water entry or surface disturbance is detected it sounds an alarm. The difference I’ve found with this specific product is execution–the Generalman product just works and works well. The sensitivity settings are precise which is important for reducing false positives including those caused by rain, wind, debris or in my case my dogs trying to take a swim on a hot day. It couldn’t be easier to install and use–insert a battery, power it on and put it in the water. There’s also an indoor receiver to expand the range of the device. Overall, a well made and functional safety alarm at a very reasonable price point. Highly recommended!

This pool alarm was easy to set up since the battery was already installed, and it paired quickly with the indoor receiver. The sensitivity adjustment works well, and on the higher setting it detected surprisingly small water disturbances. During testing, a disturbance at one end of my pool was enough to trigger the alarm closer to the other end of the pool after about a 15 second delay. That seems a bit long, but I’m unsure if that is a normal amount of time for a delay since this is my first time owning a pool alarm. The indoor receiver was loud enough for me to hear from inside the house. The alarm floats and functions properly, although mine sits slightly lopsided in the water which happened after adjusting it to be more sensitive. My only concern is the battery compartment design. The cover was extremely difficult to remove, and after reinstalling it, the seal didn’t seem quite as tight as it did from the factory. Since keeping water out is critical for a floating pool device, that raises some long term durability concerns for me. Overall, the alarm performed well, the sensitivity adjustment was effective, and the alerts were easy to hear.
