Good microscope for casual observations
This is a review of the entry level Woehrsh Microscope for Adults with WF10x and WF25x eyepieces, currently priced at $130. There is currently a second, more expensive microscope that includes a USB camera that shares this listing and I am NOT reviewing that microscope.

This is a good microscope for casual, amateur observations of the microscopic world. It is far superior to any microscope I owned or had access to as a kid, which was longer ago than I care to admit. This is even superior to microscopes that were available to some of those who made pioneering microscopic discoveries. But this is NOT up to today’s standards for even a serious student using a microscope in their studies. It is a great microscope to interest a young person in the microscopic world or for anyone who wants to see microscopic objects first hand.

I am going to point out some of the features and limitations of this microscope so anyone considering a purchase has a better idea of what this microscope can and cannot do. Microscopy involves much more than just a lot of magnification. This microscope is actually capable of 2500x magnification, more than stated, but working with high magnification is difficult even with the best of microscopes. Despite what is suggested by the product photos, you cannot see the corona virus with this or any optical microscope. Working with lower magnifications is easier and more satisfying. The 40x, 100x, 250x, and 400x magnifications will be the most used and this microscope works well at those powers. The fine focus knob is adequate for these powers although it starts to be touchy at 400x. The Vernier slide stage is a big help in positioning a specimen for viewing. The LED lights, top and bottom, with a dimmer ease the process of getting the illumination right for viewing. The binocular eyepieces allow you to look at the image with both eyes but they do not provide a three dimensional view because both eyes are seeing the same view, which is true of all microscopes of this type.

An accessory is provided for positioning a phone to take pictures through the microscope. I needed to remove the case from my iPhone 15 Pro to use this. Taking pictures with this setup is a bit fiddly but you can get a record of your observations. If you want to take pictures through the microscope frequently, then you will want to have a USB eyepiece camera, which this set does NOT include. I have included a few pictures to give you an idea of what this microscope can do. The first three pictures show a US $1 bill where I took pictures of the T in the word Treasurer as circled in the first, non-microscopic picture. The second and third pictures are at 100x and 250x. The fourth and fifth pictures are of two of the included prepared slides, onion skin and berry hair.

I think this microscope set is a good value as long as you understand what this microscope can and cannot do.
