Love this HP Smart Tank 7603 Wireless All-in-One Ink Tank Printe
We have only had this printer for about a week now but we love it!! The copies are bright and clear. It’s fast. We got it in the black color and glad we did as it goes with the other electronics in the room. The inks are easy to use and so far so good. I print a lot of cute ideas for my greeting cards so I need clear copies for that. I would encourage anyone that is looking to upgrade their printer to give this one a try. It’s a great price and I don’t think you will regret it. P.S. The only thing it does not do it flip the copies when you have a two sided paper to copy. You have to do that yourself. Other then that we love it.
Nice Printe
It’s a nice printer. Setting it up was extremely easy with the HP app. We’ve printed in B/W and color and both seem fine. We haven’t used it enough to determine the ink life. I’ll update if needed.
What I will say is that after you print something you won’t be able to highlight the text right away. I tested it and it smeared. I’m not sure how long you’d have to wait but I printed something and then let it sit in the tray overnight. Next morning I was able to highlight with no smearing.
I was in need of a new printer as my wife took my Canon mega tank for her crafting projects. I thought I’d give this a try for my home office, and I’m glad I did! This is a very reliable home printer! I’ve been using it daily for the past several days, and I’m quite pleased that the print quality is very good. It produces very crisp text in both color and black ink printed documents, and the photo printing is quite vibrant. With the use of HP photo paper, photos print beautifully. The set up is pretty straightforward and guided so anyone can do it. Everything you need to be up and running is in the box. Installing the print heads and putting the inks in each well was easy as the instructions provided are clear and in several languages. I was doing a test print within minutes. One thing I love about this printer is that it has the top multiple-document feeder so I can get copies done faster. It also has all the functions for a home office printer so that you can print, copy and scan, and it is also HP AI capable. I didn’t have any issues connecting it to the wi-fi during set up and staying connected daily as I work. Another feature of this smart printer is being able to directly print from my iPhone or tablet. It’s quick and efficient. Every page I printed definitely went through quicker than my old printer, especially if it was a black ink only document. It does print fast. This printer has a midsize footprint as it is not small or huge. It may be placed on your desk next to the computer or on any printer stand or cart since it is average in size compared to most tank printers. The printer has four ink wells for the colors cyan, yellow, magenta and black. The bottles of ink in the box are full size bottles, and the ink should last for hundreds of prints. The calendar document in my photos shows how vibrant the colors print. I found this printer to be reliable, easy to set up and use and very well designed by HP. If you’re looking for a printer that is a workhorse and doesn’t use use cartridges for ink, try this one. As for the price, it’s a little bit steeper than most printers with these capabilities, but I’m guessing that the detail of the ink lasting up to 3 years may factor into the price. What you will save in ink alone makes this printer worth it. I’m very happy with this product and recommend it!
I’ve been an HP printer loyalist for *years*. In fact, my previous HP was starting to give me a little grief (I mean, it is at least 5 years old or thereabouts), so I had already begun researching which HP model I’d buy next. When this Smart Tank became available, I was all over it!
I’m so glad I made the switch.
The biggest game-changer for me is the Smart Tank ink system. I honestly don’t think I’d want to go back to cartridges. Refilling the tanks is incredibly easy—just insert the bottle and let it do its thing. No squeezing, no ink explosions, no wondering if you’re about to wear cyan for the rest of the day. The technology behind it is pretty amazing.
Print quality is exactly what I’ve come to expect from HP: crisp text, vibrant colors, and clean-looking documents. The wireless setup was straightforward, and I love being able to print from my computer or phone without thinking twice about it.
The scanner, copier, fax, and automatic document feeder are all welcome additions, making this a great all-around home office printer.
I also appreciate that the included ink should last a long time. Since I don’t print constantly, knowing I won’t be worrying about ink every few weeks is a huge plus.
Now, I do miss the “good old days” when you bought a printer and… that was it. No monthly subscriptions, no extra decisions to make, just buy new ink cartridges when the time came, and you couldn’t print until they were replaced. That said, because I don’t print a ton, I’m able to opt into HP’s lowest subscription tier, which I can live with. It’s not my favorite aspect of modern printers, but it’s manageable for my printing habits.
The only printer in my house that isn’t an HP is a competitor’s color laser printer that I use exclusively for printing my homemade wine labels. Unfortunately, inkjet and wine bottles don’t always play nicely together—unless you’re going for the “Oops, I spilled water and accidentally created a beautiful watercolor masterpiece” look.
That laser printer is fast approaching end-of-life, though. I’ve had it for going on (gasp!) 20 years, and I honestly haven’t fired it up recently, so at this point I’m not even sure if it’s still among the living! Because of how much I’ve enjoyed HP printers over the years—and now this Smart Tank in particular—I’m seriously considering replacing it with an HP color laser printer when the time comes.
Overall, this feels like a worthy upgrade. The Smart Tank system alone has won me over, the print quality is excellent, and it has all the features I need in one machine.
Five stars! Here’s hoping this one sticks around for as many years as my last HP… although if it could somehow also make coffee while it’s printing, I certainly wouldn’t complain.
I’ve avoided HP printers for years now for two basic reasons: 1) the exorbitant price of HP’s OEM supplies, and; 2) HP’s messing with firmware to lock out non-OEM supplies. Together, these two factors turned me from a longtime HP fan into a HP avoider.
Now I have this HP printer. I didn’t buy it. I got it free in return for this review from Amazon’s Vine program. I’m still not sure I’m willing to give my money to HP, but as a “cartridge free”, refillable printer (what other printer companies call a “tank” printer) this printer does in a sense resolve the main issues that have kept me from HP for some time now. You can buy a years’ worth of ink from HP for less than $100 (a big-bottle CMY set from HP is about $60 and a larger BK bottle is another $20) and I actually think this printer may work with non-OEM ink, but I’m never going to try because of the reasonable price HP has set for its own ink. OEM ink is far preferable to non-OEM in my opinion, and this thing prints a lot for very little money compared with other cartridge-type HP printers, making OEM affordable.
I have a Canon tank printer much like this one from HP—same duty rating, same cost, same AIO abilities (almost). Like this HP, my Canon is rated negatively by online reviewers who compare it to the Epson tank printers. I don’t care about the reviews. Despite being kind of a printer snob, I’m more than satisfied with my Canon tank printer and have had nothing but success with it over a number of years now.
This HP printer is going to make my son (whom I have given it to) just as happy as the Canon makes me. This HP printer is a tad slower than the Canon (and slower than its Epson equivalent), but I use these printers at home where speed isn’t of the essence. I’m not doing many hundreds of pages a month, probably just 100 pages in the average month, and I’m happy with this printer’s speed.
I like the multi-document sheet feeder. It works reliably and you can put a fairly large sheaf of papers in the tray which it will scan or copy just fine. I don’t like the printer’s lack of the ability to enter settings from a screen on the printer. You have to adjust settings via app. In theory I like the ability to send faxes from the printer over the internet using an HP facility for sending faxes to phone lines from an internet-connected fax machine (lacking a phone connection). This ability is free for the first year, but will require a subscription after a year—something I will not pay for.
Nevertheless, this is a solid printer, worth your money and it comes with the HP pedigree. I may have been won back to buying HP products with my own money by this machine. It’s that good—and that much better than HP’s old way of bleeding its customers dry for consumables.
Good printer, easy basic setup, but extra work needed to load proper drivers
This item came available to me shortly after my Epson EcoTank printer died doing what it loved the most, printing pages for its master (me). I have good experience with HP printers. I have a very old color laser that is still printing on its original toner cartridges. I have a newer small B/W laser printer, and now this Smart Tank printer. I actually ordered the 6003 model as well for my game room, but that is another review for another day.
Unboxing was straight forward, and the setup routine was quite easy, with one exception I will get to shortly. The setup walks you though getting your printer powered on, adding the ink, and then adding the print nozzle units. Once the physical setup is done, you go to the Microsoft store (I didn’t know anybody still used that) and load some drivers so you can finish the setup. The final step of the setup process actually failed to print a test page, but I did that from the printer settings.
Connecting to my network was fast and easy, but you have to enable location sharing for some reason for your computer to recognize your printer over the wifi network. It’s one of those annoying things that I don’t understand why location sharing is needed. They are 2 feet apart. This is where we get to the flaw in the setup. My setup routing loaded a generic Microsoft print driver so many of the printers features were not available. I had to go online and run a separate program to load the drivers. And the online setup failed, I had to do the offline setup option. But once I got that accomplished I was able to print with all the machines features enabled.
So far I have only done color prints that are 4 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch graphics, so about 35-40% page coverage and printing was very slow and definitely not the 9 pages per minute advertised in the listing. I was doing a double sided print and it took about 3 minutes per page. The prints looked great and I really don’t care that much about the speed, but it does need to be reported. Perhaps regular pages would print faster.
I’ve got about 35 double sided pages printed so far and the print quality is really good. Ink usage is good, so far I cannot see any ink usage in the tank windows.
The display screen is not my favorite. It blends into the top of the printer is invisible unless it is active. It’s only a 3 line display and I’ve not really played around with it, but it does not appear to be the most useful part of the printer. It looks nice, but I would rather have functionality than good looks. That’s actually the same thing my wife tells me.
There is a USB port and network port on the back if you want to hard wire it into your computer or network. And there is also a USB port on the front for USB stick printing of images. I have not tried that and probably never will.
Except for the missing functional drivers during setup, I have no complaints about this printer. It seems to work very well. Printing results look really good, even they are a bit slow, and overall the printer looks nice. I also like the sheet feeder on the scanner. At the sale price its an exceptional value. I just wish during the setup you got the correct drivers.
