Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery Happy With This Printer - The Bulk Ink Is A Financial Game Changer - Would Recommend For Sure!
Finally, HP has jumped on the right bandwagon and is giving consumers options besides the standard cartridge-based printers! Epson has been on this for years, glad HP finally made the move.

Right out of the box, the printer is easy to setup and get running. Within just a few minutes of opening the box, it was all set up and connected to my wireless internet without any issues at all. The printer uses bulk ink in color specific reservoirs instead of the little foam-filled cartridges that HP has always relied on as their primary ink delivery method. This often resulted in dried out cartridges, even when you hadn’t printed much. It also limits you to using their cartridges, which now you can buy universal ink to refill the bulk tanks.

The overall print quality is very good, and is exactly what I would expect from a modern inkjet printer. The print speed is actually very fast, and considering how fast it prints each sheet, this is a contender for competing against a laser printer but keeping the ink cost lower with bulk ink. Obviously the biggest consideration is exposure to moisture, and if there is a possibility of that, I would recommend staying with a laser printer. The paper tray holds a good amount of paper (+/- a third of a ream) and I didn’t have any issues with jamming or streaking of any kind.

The printer is easy to set up, easy to use, prints quickly and with good quality. The bulk ink versus the little cartridges is a game changer and makes you wonder why HP waited so long to get on the program! I would recommend this for sure. It’s a great quality printer and the bulk ink will save you a ton in the long run.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHP Smart Tank 5100 Wireless AllinOne Refillable Printer (9B2D1A)
    Product Description:

The HP Smart Tank 5100 is a wireless allinone printer designed for highvolume, lowcost home printing. It includes up to 3 years of ink in the box, supports printing, copying, scanning, borderless printing, and mobile/wireless connectivity. The refill system uses HP’s messfree bottle design, and the Smart Tank line is known for sharp text and rich color output.

Photos: My photos were printed on Hammermill 24lb 96 brightness regular inkjet paper not photo paper.

    Personal Experience:

HP absolutely nailed it with this Smart Tank 5100, and it’s an easy 5star printer for me.

Setup was smooth from the start. Connecting it to WiFi and getting it recognized by my devices took only a few minutes, and once it was online it’s been rocksolid for everyday printing, scanning, and copying. Print quality is excellent, text is crisp, and color pages look vibrant and clean, far better than I expected from a refillable tank system.

The refill system is one of the best parts. Adding ink is completely messfree: once the bottle clicks into the tank adapter, you don’t squeeze anything, it drains automatically. One tip from my experience: after the bottle locks into place, don’t press down hard. If you push too firmly, it actually stops the ink flow. A gentle click and handsoff approach works perfectly.

The printer’s design is compact for an allinone, so it doesn’t dominate your desk. The rear paper feed works smoothly, and the visible ink tanks make it easy to check levels at a glance. Knowing there’s enough ink for thousands of pages makes this feel like a longterm, costeffective solution instead of the usual cartridge hassle.

Overall, the HP Smart Tank 5100 is quiet, efficient, and genuinely easy to live with day to day. Between the highquality output, refillable tanks, and truly messfree refilling, I’m very glad I switched to a tank model.

    Final Verdict:

A reliable, clean, costeffective home printer with excellent print quality and effortless refilling. Strong 5star recommendation.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGreat Printer for Heavy Use, Wireless Setup is the Way to Go
I’ve had this printer for about a week, and I’m already wondering why I didn’t switch to a tank system sooner. The print quality is excellent. Everything comes out sharp and vibrant, whether I’m printing photos, documents, or school projects. My kids go through a lot of paper, and this thing handles it without complaining.

The ink situation is genuinely game-changing. Coming with three years of ink included means I’m not going to be spending money on cartridges every couple months like I was with my old printer. The tanks are massive compared to traditional cartridges, and you can see exactly how much ink is left. I’ve already printed hundreds of pages in just this first week, and the ink levels barely budged. At this rate, I believe the claim about printing thousands of pages on a single fill.

The wireless setup works flawlessly. I connected it to my home network in minutes, and it’s been rock solid ever since. Printing from my phone, laptop, and computer happens instantly without any lag or connection issues. This is how printing should feel in 2026.

The scanner and copier functions work well too. Copy quality is crisp, and the scanner picks up detail without needing to adjust settings constantly. It’s genuinely all-in-one and actually does each function properly rather than feeling like a compromise.

My real frustration is with the wired setup. If you need to connect it via USB cable for initial installation or troubleshooting, it’s unnecessarily complicated. The process feels outdated compared to how smoothly the wireless connection works. I got it working, but it required more steps and patience than it should have. Stick with wireless from day one if possible.

For families or anyone who prints regularly, this is honestly a must-have investment. The ink savings alone pay for itself quickly, and you never have that panic of running out of ink in the middle of something important. Highly recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersA Fantastic Printer for Busy Homes and Classrooms
I’ve been in the market for a new printer for a while, but I absolutely did not want to be locked into another ink subscription or feel like I was paying a ransom every time I needed to print. The HP Smart Tank 5100 has been the perfect solution. It’s simple, economical, and impressive.

Setup was easy. I already had the HP Smart app on my computer, so once I connected the printer to Wi-Fi and installed the ink, printheads, and paper, it was ready to go without a single hiccup, even with my spotty Wi-Fi.

The first thing that surprised me was the bright, vivid color quality, far better than I expected from a refillable tank printer. I printed a picture of a flower from my garden, and it was pretty vibrant and bright. The design is another win. It’s remarkably smaller than my previous HP printer, which frees up valuable space, and it runs quickly and quietly.

The rear paper feed holds 100 sheets and works smoothly, and the little front paper rest that swivels out is a thoughtful touch. The LED screen is simple and easy to use but, in my opinion, it would have been better with a bigger more informative screen. My only minor challenge was figuring out what each icon meant, since the included booklet doesn’t go very deep. One button is for black and white printing, the other for color. The HP Smart app definitely fills in the gaps and unlocks all the fun features, controls and settings for the 5100.

As a preschool teacher, I print A LOT of stuff. Activities, photos, worksheets, newsletters, and this printer keeps up beautifully. With the amount I print, the included ink should last me close to three years, and I already checked the refill bottles prices on the manufacturer’s website: they’re just under $60 for the whole set, which is extremely costeffective for my workload. This printer also has replaceable printheads so if they ever get blocked or clogged in the future, I can switch them out for new ones, which should extend the life of this printer.

It doesn’t print doublesided automatically due to the design of the printer, so you do have to flip the paper manually and the out tray only holds 30 printed sheets at a time, but for the price, print quality, and refillable ink convenience, that’s a small trade-off for me. For printing pictures, classroom materials, scanning, copying, and everyday tasks, this printer is absolutely perfect.

I highly recommend the HP 5100 if you want a great designed, easy to use, affordable printer with fantastic print quality. The ink is refillable and depending on how much I print it should deliver gorgeous color copies for THREE YEARS!!! without the extortionate ink cartridge prices or subscription hassle. That’s hundreds and hundreds of pages of “Spot” adventures for my kiddoes! Well done HP.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGood Printer with Incredible Ink Savings
After using cartridge printers for years, I decided it was finally time to switch to an ink tank printer.

I use my printer for a little bit of everything—from everyday documents and household paperwork to work planning documents and color printouts. The print quality has been excellent. Black text is crisp and sharp, and color documents come out bright and vibrant.

Setup was surprisingly easy and took very little time.Connecting it to my wireless network took only a few minutes, and the HP app made printing and scanning from my phone simple. I like being able to see the ink levels through the clear tanks. It’s nice knowing exactly how much ink remains instead of guessing like I always did with cartridges.

The biggest reason I bought this printer was the refillable ink system. Having up to three years of ink included is a tremendous value, and I love knowing I’m no longer constantly buying expensive replacement cartridges.

There are a couple of trade-offs. The print speed is noticeably slower than the cartridge printer I replaced. It’s certainly not the fastest printer, but for my home use, I’m willing to accept the slower speed because the ink savings are so significant.

I also wish it included an automatic document feeder. When scanning or copying multiple pages, each page has to be placed on the scanner glass individually. That’s probably the feature I miss the most, and it would have made this printer even better.

Overall, I’ve been very pleased with this printer. It produces excellent print quality, was easy to set up, and the refillable ink system has been exactly what I was hoping for.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSo happy with this printer, well done HP.
I timed from opening the printer box, set up and printing both a test page and a document from my phone, 28 minutes. It is likely even quicker but I was taking photos and screenshot of the set up and HP app at the same time.

Very simple and well explained set up. I chose to do the mobile set up, and highly recommend that route.

Download the HP app once you scan the QR code in the inckuded instructions and it will walk you through step by step with animated steps as well. I am a visual learner more so than reading steps so I really appreciated the visual assistance both in animations and in color prompts.

Clear orange tabs, tape, and plastic pieces so you don’t miss which parts are to be removed.

I did not spill a drop of ink/toner and if you knew me you would know that was amazing.

Secure ends, pop bottle onto the fill spout on the tanks and watch it fill. No splatter when removing too.

Easy to connect wirelessly, my phone recognized the printer right away through the app set up, smooth printing, no jamming during tests and actual print jobs so far.

When you consider the price of the printer, ease of set up, included ink/toner and potential for 3 years worth of use before needing to refill this is of great value.

The quality of the print jobs, both black and white and color works well for work tasks, mailing labels, articles, papers, etc. It is not a high quality photo printer but if you are looking for that you typically choose a specific model.

This is GREAT for your home office or dorm room. Very pleased. Kudos to the HP team on printer set up instructions too.

I have included photos of how you fill the ink wells, what the app instructions look like and how clear the orange pieces are for removal as you work through set up. I hope it all helps.
