Easy to assemble and super cute
We love this squirrel house – it was easy to build and it looks great.
Assembly was pretty easy – we used a drill to make it quicker but all you need is a Phillips head screwdriver. The picture directions are easy to follow – the only small issue we had is we weren’t lined up with the predrilled hole and the wood started to split a bit – not a big deal, we glued it together and redrilled it into the correct hole.
Took about 15 minutes to assemble and hang it on the tree.
The squirrels have already come and it’s fun to watch them bring sticks and other items over to try and hide it more.
Super happy, great quality and appearance.
Fantastic high quality squirrel home!
This is such a lovely squirrel house! I got it because the tree in my backyard where the local squirrels used to live got cut down by the city, and I really wanted to give them a new place to go since they love hanging around my yard. I have already seen them checking it out and sniffing around, so I am really hopeful they will start nesting in it soon!
The wood quality is just outstanding. It is really thick and solid, and I did not have a single piece with any splits, burns, or damage whatsoever, just really clean high quality wood throughout. It is definitely built to last outdoors.
The extra large size is a really nice touch too, it gives the squirrels plenty of room to move around comfortably, and the double rest platforms on the outside are such a thoughtful addition for feeding and just hanging out. The side panels also create a really nice enclosed entry area which I think will make them feel a lot more secure going in and out.
The upgraded metal latch is also a really nice practical detail, it just feels a lot more durable than a wooden lock would be for everyday outdoor use.
Price-wise, at $70.99 I think it is a really fair price for the size and quality of the wood, and it genuinely feels like a premium product.
Overall, it is just a really beautifully made squirrel house, and I really hope my little yard squirrels make it their new home soon!
Firmlly Extra Large Outdoor Squirrel House
Great quality kit, with nicely finished wood pieces that assembled easily and quickly – no misaligned holes or any other assembly issues. The resulting box feels sturdy and well made. The choice of wood for this squirrel house is nice and it has a good design with anti-predation panel on the inside so a predator can’t just stick a paw in and grab a helpless baby squirrel. The squirrel carrying a couple of acorns on the outside face is a cute touch.
Overall this is an excellent quality kit that is easy to assemble and is both aesthetically pleasing as well as durable. Recommended
Thick wood, quick build, squirrels approved
The wood is thick and solid, no splits or burns anywhere in the kit, and it feels like it’ll hold up outdoors through a few seasons.
Assembly was quick. The holes are predrilled and the picture directions are clear enough that it went together in about half an hour with a drill, though a Phillips screwdriver is all you strictly need. The engraved squirrel illustration on the front door is a nicer touch than a critter box needs, and the double rest platforms on the side give them a spot to perch and feed. The enclosed side panels make a little sheltered entry that should help them feel secure going in and out.
One tip from putting it together: go slow lining up each piece with its predrilled hole, since forcing a screw slightly off can start the wood splitting. Take your time and it goes together clean. The upgraded metal latch is solid and makes it easy to open for cleaning.

We are so impressed with the quality of this squirrel house! The wood is thick, solid, and heavy, making it a perfect, dry haven for winter. The engraved illustration on the side is beautiful, and it’s plenty spacious enough to fit a whole squirrel family. I believe the house is of much better quality than the ones I see in the park.
It was a delightful project for my husband and 8 year old granddaughter, taking them only about 30 minutes to assemble thanks to the predrilled holes and excellent instructions. Because it is so solidly built, it has some weight to it, so we are waiting on a neighbor to help us mount it up in the tree. Even before putting it up, you can tell this is built to last!
We love it and can’t wait until the squirrel in our yard takes up residence. Highly recommend!
Well Built Squirrel House with a Few Design Improvements I'd Like to See
Bottom Line: A solid, attractive squirrel house made from quality wood that should hold up well outdoors, although the instructions and a couple of design details could be improved.
Pros:

Cons:
* Assembly instructions could be clearer
* Heavy enough that mounting is a two-person job
* Roof is flat instead of sloped
* Cleaning door won’t stay open on its own
This squirrel house is much more substantial than I expected. The wood is thick, solid, and well finished, giving it the feel of something that should last outdoors for many years. After several rain showers, I noticed the water beading on the surface rather than soaking into the wood, so it appears to have some type of protective finish.
Assembly wasn’t difficult, but the instructions rely mostly on pictures. I was able to figure everything out, though written directions identifying the different screws and steps would have made the process easier.
Because of its weight, I would recommend having two people mount it. One person can hold it in position while the other secures it to the tree or other mounting surface.
There are a couple of design changes I’d like to see. A sloped roof would shed rainwater better than the current flat top. Also, while I appreciate that the front door opens for cleaning, it doesn’t stay open by itself. It would be much easier if the door slid into a notch or included some type of stay to hold it open while cleaning. As designed, it tends to swing closed unless you support it.
After mounting it on a tree, I scattered nuts around the base. The squirrels found those the very next day, but there was no sign they had entered the house. The following two days I placed nuts on the exterior ledges and inside the squirrel house. Each day the food disappeared, showing the squirrels had visited. After that, I moved the food to a nearby open feeder because I didn’t want to encourage other animals or pests to investigate the nesting box.
One unexpected thing I’ve noticed since installing the squirrel house is that the squirrels have stopped bothering my bird feeders. I don’t know if the squirrel house is the reason, but it certainly hasn’t hurt.
Overall, I think this is a very attractive, well-built squirrel house that should provide years of outdoor use. With clearer instructions, a sloped roof, and a way to hold the cleaning door open, it would be even better.
