I ordered the Ember and read the reviews after ordering. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the negative stuff in reviews. I don’t usually write reviews, but I like this product so much, I thought I’d give my input to help others out.
-I work from a home office and found that my coffee tea gets cold before I finish it because I take my time while working.
-It is even better than I expected to have drinks stay at the temperature I want. With the app, you can adjust the heat to the way you like it. The last sip is as good as the first.
-I didn’t have any trouble setting up the cup and app. I followed some guy’s advice in the reviews to make sure the cup is fully charged before setting up the app and followed the instructions. That worked great for me.
-I haven’t had any of the issues some seem to have had with the Bluetooth disconnecting (I use and iPhone mini). It’s been very solid. Twice in the first two weeks, it seemed to not be heating though it said it was connected. I simply turned off the heater through the app and turned it on again both times and it worked fine.
-There’s some talk about not getting the charging stand wet. I am careful with that, making sure that I haven’t sloshed and gotten the bottom of the cup wet. Not a big deal at all to pay attention to that. I don’t walk around with normal mugs wet on the bottom anyway.
-One review I read complained about the length of time the mug holds a charge. I generally, sit it on the charger by my workstation, so it’s always charging. If you do that, no problem with charge. A few times I’ve taken the mug other places in the house. It easily goes 1.5 hours and my guess is it’d approach ~2 hours, maybe a bit more. That’s plenty long for me. And I can recharge it and use again later. It’s definitely no iPhone in terms of battery life, but works for what I do. If you expect it to keep something warm for 8 hours, I don’t think it’ll do that.
-It’s a very solid-feeling mug that’s got a really nice feel. Good heft, some sort of traction rubber on the bottom so it stays put where you set it down.
-I was hesitant reading some of the negative reviews relative to the price. I am 100% happy with this purchase. One of the best things I’ve gotten recently and makes a fun difference in my days. Highly recommend it.
*update* !! The mug still works awesome and I’m super happy with itPLUSI discovered that my yeti travel cover fits in it!!! This extends the 80 mins of heat to MOST OF THE DAY (at 120F) if you can get ahold of a travel lid then you’ll love it even more!!!
I tried out Ember, Nextmug and a coffee cup warmer. I chose Ember and here’s why:
(For context I am a busy mom and I drink one cup of coffee per day. I tend to sip on that cup all morning long. I like to bring it around the house with me, often settling in one area for long periods (like to do a craft or do computer).
I chose the Ember mug and here’s why not the others:
1) The warmer- I couldn’t bring the mug around the house with me, it had to always stay on the warmer. Also, as I drank the coffee down, it got hotter and hotter (less to heat). I had to keep turning the warmer down. Twice I forgot I left the warmer on and left the house and it stayed on all day. The warmer was also very hard to clean if you got a ring on it because it gets baked on. Literally I could not get the ring stain off. Lastly, the coffee tastes super gross after a few hours. Not sure why…but the heat from the bottom does something to it.
2) Nextmug – I didn’t like the shape of the mug. It looks deep but actually half of the mug is the heating element so it’s not deep. Mine kept shutting off randomly, like within 10 mins of setting it, maybe it was defective? It also seemed to get hotter as the liquid became less like the warmer did.
3) Ember – immediately I could see the temp on the app as soon as the liquid hit the cup, which I thought was NEAT! It turns its self on automatically when the coffee is put in it and goes to the last setting you set it at. It keeps it at that exact temperature regardless of how much is left in the cup (yay!). Thus it never overheats the coffee and the coffee stays delicious. I can take it all around the house and it is sturdy, looks cool and is nice and deep. It does shut off a lot sooner (from inactivity) than others, BUT it heats back up again surprisingly quick, so I’ll take it.
Others have voiced connectivity issues. I have an iphone14 pro and it hasn’t had any trouble yet, but I just got it.
For the record I was hoping I could control it via the app even when I wasn’t home (like turn it on and off remotely) but it doesn’t work that way. Since it’s bluetooth and not wifi controlled you have to be near it for it to work.

we bought this for my husband for father’s day, as we have a small baby and often can’t drink our coffee at once. He loves this! It’s easy to use with the app, and he said the temperature stays consistent. He can take a sip, give the baby a bottle and change him, take another sip, play with the baby, go back and the coffee is still at the perfect temperature. I purchased on sale for $99 which felt like a good price. It does have to be hand washed, but the material of the cup makes it super easy to clean.
This has been a game changer for keeping coffee or tea at the exact drinking temperature without constantly reheating it. The app control is easy to use for setting preferences, and the mug maintains a steady temperature so every sip stays just right instead of going cold. The build feels premium and solid, and it has held up well with regular daily use. Battery life is usually enough for a full morning session, especially when kept on the charging coaster.
What I also appreciate is how useful the travel version is for being on the go, keeping drinks warm during commutes or longer outings. Overall, it’s a high-quality, thoughtfully designed product that consistently delivers on its promise and makes everyday routines a little better.
I bought two of the 14oz white Ember Mugs. The mugs are very reliable and work as advertised. However, there is a problem with the chargers. After using them for a few months one of the mugs stopped working. Turns out the charger charging “pins” had gotten depressed and was not making contact. No idea how that happened but my husband used a small tweezer and was able to pull it out so that it works. Every few weeks it happens again and he pulls the pin out again. But he said this last time the pin got depressed so deep that he did not think he could get a grip on it. He eventually managed it. So today the same thing has happened the other charger. This one is rarely used. I’m not happy. This is clearly a defect with these chargers. To make it worse I came to Amazon to just order a new charger and they no longer have white chargers. I gave these mugs a rave review on Amazon when I first got them, but I wanted to make potential buyers aware of this issue. I just read many reviews that mention this same issue so I am sure that Ember is aware of it. Mug are great, chargers can be defective. Obviously without the charger the mug does not work.
I’ve been using the Ember Smart Mug 2 almost every day for about a year (I skip caffeine on Saturdays), and it’s easily one of my favorite purchases. I haven’t had a single issue with it during that time.
What I like:

With the lid, I rarely need to use the charging coaster while drinking
What could be better:
The app can be a bit annoying to use, especially during initial setup
Battery life is short without a lid, so slow sippers will want the charging plate within reach
Once everything is set up, the app becomes mostly hands-off, and the mug just does its job. If you like your coffee or tea at a precise temperature and tend to sip slowly, this mug—especially with a lid—has been a daily essential for me.
