I’ve had these since March, 2025. They have saved me from serious water damage 3 times since then. On a good note, the individual monitors do a great job of detecting very small amounts of water, either underneath them or on top of them. They sound independent of the wifi gateway, as well. Very loud, attention getting alarms on each unit. On the bad side, the instructions are just terrible!!! The vendor can probably avoid returns if just a little time was dedicated to making the instructions usable. Then basics are there, but the relationship between features and operations are very poor. Overall, once I got the app set up and understood what all the device alarm levels actually mean, it does a great job of noticing of issues.
Update: Some Amazon AI forced me here because it thinks this is a variant of the sensors I purchased to add to my gateway. Well…okay, sure.
This particular review is for the 3 pack sensors I purchased. The WD61 model works perfectly with the wifi gateway. They were very easy to add to the accessories list for the leak detector class of sensors. I did find out that it is a lot easier to name each detector for its location/purpose while pairing them to the gateway. When I purchased the 6 sensor gateway package last year, the sensors came paired from the factory. This meant that each had a default name/number assigned to it. However, you don’t know which sensors is tied to which name until you hit the test button on each sensor. That made renaming each one harder than needed. By deleting all of the sensors and pairing each one separately, I could go to each location with the gateway in hand, and pair each sensor on site, and rename it right then. Lots less work!
The devices work very well. Once I learned what the app is actually doing, and determined the parts of the instructions that are inaccurate (like the pairing mode color on the gateway…its not yellow as indicated in the documentation..its a pale blue.) then things became very simple to set up and navigate. Overall, the product works as advertised and has saved me from some potentially major water damage. Just be patient with the documentation. It could use some work.
Compact for easy placement, loud alarm
These water leak detectors are small enough to fit pretty much anywhere. The low profile means they can be easily slipped under your dishwasher or washing machine, as well as under pipes in your kitchen and bathroom cupboards.
I like that they take 2 AAA batteries instead of the button batteries you would expect. AAA’S are cheaper and you can use rechargeable ones. They still seem to be working since I initially installed batteries – I don’t think they chirp when the battery is low, so I regularly check them to make sure the batteries are still good.
The alarm itself is loud! While this won’t help if you aren’t home, if you are home you will definitely hear it. These don’t have remote notification capabilities, but you would also pay a lot more for a device that does.
If there is just a little bit of water on the floor, you can re-use these once the alarm sounds, but if they got submersed they probably wouldn’t work anymore as there isn’t a waterproof seal where they come apart to insert the batteries.
These are great for peace of mind, knowing there is a loud alarm if something starts leaking, without having a large financial commitment.
Sleep easier knowing that this is in my baseme
There is nothing worse than an unexpected flood in your basement and with this in mind I decided that it was time for some type of water alarm. I saw this METAK Water Leak Detector for Home and decided to order it.
Upon unboxing you are presented with 2 x water alarms, 4 x AAA batteries, 1 x opening tool and 1 x user manual.
PROS:
– extremely loud alarm sound (you will definitely hear the alarm when it sounds). Volume is adjustable.
– can detect both water seepage and water dripping
– easy to setup and operate
– can be used with a gateway hub (not included) which allows pairing of up to 24 leak detectors
– can also be used without a hub
CONS:
– lids fit very tightly and can be difficult to open with the included plastic opening tool. I used a metal tool to open the lids and it was much easier to open.
Overall, I feel better knowing that these water alarms are on duty in my basement. I have one near my water heater and water softener and one behind my washing machine. This is an item that I hope I never need but if I do I’m glad that it is there monitoring any potential water leaks. Catching a water leak early can mean the difference between just minor damage and tens of thousands of dollars in damage. Based on my experiences using these water alarms I can highly recommend them.
RATING 4.5/5.0
great produc
This device has been very helpful, my kitchen sink drain pipe came a little loose and this device let me know early before it ruined the wood underneath my sink
I originally ordered another brand that stated 2 4ghz wifi. I have fiber, which has both bands, but in order for the devices to communicate with the hub i was going to have to do config on router- too much work.
THIS set of devices, while more expensive, work right out of the box. No configuration. App is easy to use. Just ordered more of the standalone sensors.
NOTE these are not the chirp kind. So if there’s a water leak, it only notifies the app. The others I bought were loud AF and no way to disable sound, so this brand is ideal for me living in a townhouse so I don’t annoy neighbors if I’m away or wake my child up in middle of night.
Water damage is one of the most costly and common claims for houses – so it is important to have alarms. The coupling was tricky at first. Finally I pushed the power button and the couple button and it coupled to my iPhone right away then after several failed and frustrating attempts (you need to get the Tuya app). Perhaps the installation instructions could be clearer (or I didn’t read them properly). The sensors come preloaded with numbers- so write down the locations of each in the event of a water leak – so you can cross check where the water leak was. I write the locations on the bottom (and temporarily move them when cleaning people are coming).
The devices make a fairly loud alarm sound (I set each one down on a wet paper towel to verify they worked) and the Tuya app sends your phone notifications (allow notifications – including critical alerts in case of alarm activation). These all worked well. We’ll see about battery life and durability. These augment my SimpliSafe alarm system water sensors.
I purchased these water leak detectors, and I couldn’t be happier with their performance! Having experienced a water line break during a vacation years ago, I understand the importance of having reliable leak detection in place. These devices have been a fantastic addition to my home, providing reassurance that I am protected against potential water damage.
I’ve placed them in various locations throughout my house, including behind my coffee maker, where the water line connects to the reservoir. There have been a few moments when I forgot to turn off the water, leading to spills on my countertop. Thankfully, the detectors alerted me immediately, preventing a more severe mess.
**Pros:**
– Highly effective at detecting leaks
– Provides peace of mind
– Versatile placement options throughout the home
– Quick alerts help prevent water damage
**Cons:**
– None that I have encountered
Overall, I highly recommend these leak detectors to anyone looking to safeguard their home against water damage. They truly offer great value and reliability!
WD61 Water Leak Detector for Home
We are in the middle of a bowl of old riverbed on a concrete slab foundation and so when the snow accumulates in a short time and I can’t get it cleared in time that turns into a river that rungs through the garage and right into the house and for a few years we didn’t notice because it was by a fireplace that we don’t use and now we know to check but these are extra protection because these floods tend to happen when you wake up in the morning and the sun has gotten to the snow before we even know it’s gotten warm out, and so that’s what these will be used for, to place all around the point of entry and let me know if it is coming in again. We’re fixing the driveway and so hopefully these will never go off but I did test them on a wet washcloth to make sure they work and boy do they! These things scream! I can see that they are for you to know what’s going on in the basement and I don’t think I heard properly for several hours after testing these. I know it says you can adjust the volume and I might if they go off right in front of me in the winter but right now like I said I am hoping that they will be one of those things that are there but never goes off like the smoke and radon detectors, but if they do I will be glad to know and they do work! These are a great idea if you have water to watch out for and a great investment to avoid getting into a moldy situation.
Great for peace of mind
After dealing with two water damage incidents at home over the last decade, one from a leaky pipe and the other from a faulty shower cartridge, we realized that it’s MUCH CHEAPER to get ahead of the problem. The tricky part with water leaks is that by the time you notice them, the damage is often already done. These little detectors are a smart and relatively inexpensive way to catch things early.
I like the design. It picks up on both drips and pooling water using metal probes that sense when something conductive, like water, touches multiple points. It’s also, of course, waterproof (as would be expected given its purpose..). Super simple, but really effective.
I was impressed by how loud it is. I tested it by placing one inside the wall under our shower cartridge, and I could hear it clearly across the whole floor. It’s definitely loud enough to wake me up, which is exactly what I want in the middle of the night if something starts leaking.
There’s also a feature to link multiple detectors together (up to 24 of them) through the separate purchase of a smart gateway. I don’t have that yet, but I’ll be looking into it as I’ve been wanting a centralized way to monitor multiple sensors at once, and especially one where I can see status updates while I’m away.
The only thing I haven’t been able to test yet is battery life. But so far, I’m quite happy with this product.
