Did they make these 30 years ago? If they did I was an idiot for not buying one. How many times have I had to drag around 50 to 100 ft. of hose hanging up on shrubs, landscape lighting, and fence posts? It won’t eliminate all obstacles but most of them. Allows water inside piping which rusts and can freeze. Cart assembles well and rolls easily. However, design allows water to accumulate inside piping. This will rust out and/or freeze and split 9mine did both). I drilled drainage holes in underside to release water, but that too will allow rust. Coating on piping is on exterior only. This cart will likely not last 2 seasons.
UPDATE (March 2026):
After initial review, Wermah contacted me. The company was very concerned about the rust penetration and sent me a replacement hose cart to address the problem. I was quite pleased that they stood behind their product and backed it up with a new cart. I will take extra steps to hydro-seal the new unit and hopefully have its use for many seasons. It is of great ease to move around our property and caries a long hose, so I am pleased with this outcome.
This cart has really been a workhorse. My yard requires a 100 foot hose and I recently bought a new vinyl hose to replace a poly shrinking hose. After assembly, which for myself an older woman was fairly direct, the only complaint I have is the cotter pins that were included to keep the wheels attached to the axel are flimsy. I replaced them with much sturdier cotter pins from my local hardware store. The action of the winder is wonderful, no problems with the new hose. The brass fittings are quality, not pot metal. The hose is very easy to get on and off the wheel when covering the yard. I like the swivel nozzle that comes with it – a great improvement in keeping the hose untangled.
This Hose Reel Cart came in medium sized box and took less than an hour to assemble. The only interesting part during assembly was needing to bend out some pins to keep the wheels on (this is part of the instruction manual). I wheeled it out to yard and connected our existing 50 foot hose to it. At first, it took a while to figure out what was going on. But once I got the hang of it, it was easy to maneuver and easy to wind and unwind. The trick for me was to get it in a spot where I could get a good portion of hose running straight (not around corners or my leg). With the hose running straight, winding just required turning the crank. We’ve been using this for almost a month now and we’re happy with how it works and the build quality. It also looks a lot nicer than our wall mount.
