When we adopted Bella, our 12 lb. chihuahua mix, we realized we would need to do something to keep her from squeezing through the bars of our metal picket fence. Other neighbors used rolls of wire fencing which looked backbreaking to install. So, we were very happy to find this garden fence which proved to be exactly what we needed! It is very high quality and easy to install. For the gates we used cable ties to secure the fence sections to the bars. Now we have a safe backyard for our energetic little dog, plus our flowers are also now safe from the neighborhood bunnies!
Honest review. Just put it up so not enough time has passed for longevity review. I am pleased and keeping but with caveats. I ultimately purchased the 32 inch. I returned the 24 inch because not tall enough for my purpose. I am only lining a flower bed in front of my house. Hopefully fence will prevent deer from browsing. I believe this should be at least a deterrent. If it were out in the open, say a rectangle in the middle of the yard I do not think it would be sturdy enough to deter deer, but with bushes and large plants along my house, I’m hoping it will be adequate.
Now review of the product . I think the quality is OK for the price and for the purpose. It will not be long lasting, though it may get me through a few summers before showing rust. The thickness is about that of heavy gauge tomato cages therefore it could bend if you have things fall on it, although it is a little sturdier than a heavy gauge tomato cage. The cross members are slightly thicker than the vertical fencing. the loop joiners seem satisfactory. The 32 inch has 4 joiners per side, which is more than some brands and adds to stability. It has six horizontal wires if you count the top and bottom wire. The posts seem sturdy and adequate. They are spray painted. They are hollow, however I do think they would lend to rust relatively quickly, but again I’m hoping to get two or three summers use . I am not using the posts that came with it because I purchased solid core post on sale from yard link at Walmart simply because it was a good deal. What I did like about this product’s post is that they extend about 12 inches into the ground on the 32 inch fence. That helps with stability. Other products I have seen on Amazon that only go 6 or 7 inches into the ground I can now tell you I do not think will work.
As others have said the gate leaves something to be desired; however, it is adequate for my purpose as I just open it to get to my hose bib. It is a lightweight gate nothing substantial. You could buy a latch posts elsewhere that may work with the fence panels if you desire to not buy the gate.
The great news is the aesthetics of the fence is very pleasing! If it keeps the deer from browsing – (and again it wouldn’t stop a heavy deer that was determined from coming in) – I’m hoping it deters them from browsing. If that works, it will be wonderful. I think it’s very lovely and barely noticeable from the street. The curved arch is very inviting for the flower bed even at the 32 inch height, which was a worry prior to purchasing. If you’re using this for dogs, it might work for a medium sized dog if they just need suggestion for boundaries. I do not think this would work for a determined dog of any larger weight and even then it would need to be maybe in a rectangular shape for stability.
FYI I also purchased some no dig fencing from yard link sold at Walmart. It had a straight line top and I will say cost a little more but is much more substantial in wire size. It seems to be powder coated, and I think will last longer though not nearly as attractive. If I had a dog, I would look at yard link for a low cost option versus big box store. I believe yardlink would work much better for a dog than this product..The poles that come with yard link are more substantial and solid core and better coated. However, yard link poles also only go about 12 inches into the ground similar to the ones that come with this product.If you’re containing a very rambunctious medium size dog , this fence would probably work only ok at very best. Small rambunctious dog, probably ok.
My plan is I bought extra poles and I’m driving them farther into the ground – father than 12 inches perhaps 20 inches into the ground and zip tie them to my unit for extra Support. That would work well with this product purchased here but also with the yard link product. If you are looking for attractive border fence, get this. It is both graceful and inviting while barely visible from the street, it offsome prote. If you’re looking for substantial added strength for an animal, I would probably go with the yardlink I got. Yardlink had better powder coating and better gauge thickness by far and would provide a better animal fence. I do love the fence that I got here for the aesthetics of my garden and the hopes of deterring deer and I think it will satisfy my purpose hopefully for a couple years. I decided to keep it. I will update my review in the future
This Decorative Garden Fence with Gate was incredibly easy to install. Once opened, it literally only took us about 10 minutes to set up using a mallet.
I also really like that the fence is adjustable, allowing me to decide exactly where I wanted the gate placement. It’s aesthetically pleasing, pet-friendly for my small dogs, and the gate opens and shuts easily. It works perfectly for keeping my dogs out of the garden without blocking visibility.
Once installed properly, the fence feels secure, even with this crazy Oklahoma wind. I also appreciate that it’s rust-resistant, which is important for outdoor use.
For my small pets and basic garden protection, the size I bought is absolutely perfect. The price also makes this fence an excellent value. I’m very happy with this purchase!
These panels worked perfect as a fenced in area for my daughter’s small dogs. We bought two sets and connected them together but put the ends next to her house and it looks fantastic! These panels are durable, the height of them is perfect, and they were extremely easy to put together. The dogs love them because they are still able to interact with things happening outside the fence. The value for these panels is worth every penny. Although we won’t move them around, the panels are lightweight enough to move and redesign the configuration – into a playpen of sorts. Very versatile panels. Great purchase!
Yes this keeps out RABBITS! It’s only been 10 days but we returned from vacation to find our front garden flowers undamaged and thriving. Our local bunnies (Eastern Cottontails) are adorable to view but they can destroy a garden overnight, and actually caused me to lose sleep. I tried various remedies including fake owls which they hopped around, chuckled, and ignored while munching. Stench powder is short-term effective but impossible to maintain – you only realize the potency has waned when you wake up to see (through tears) that your flowers are gone again. All research concludes that Chicken Wire is the only foolproof deterrent, but that ugliness negates the entire appeal of a home-front garden. My wife convinced me to try this fence before our weeklong absence since I had invested so much time, effort and money creating our plant haven. We agreed that it was not unsightly or distracting from the stars of the show, with the arched tops and unobtrusive thin black metal. The fence gaps are approximately 1.6″ apart which prevents rabbits from squeezing through, and again she was right that 24″ was tall enough (these are bunnies not kangaroos). Installation was fairly easy by interlocking barrier sections and pressing downward on the spiked posts instead of hammering, which could bend the metal. Important to keep the posts vertical for aesthetics and consistency so the barrier sections can “step down” on sloped terrain. I set the fence around the outside of my existing paver stones, so straight runs are pretty simple but curves must be “boxed”. Just hoping to further deter rabbits from digging underneath the fence, because they will try every option to reach the buffet inside. Overall this is an attractive and cost effective defense for a formidable foe, and I will buy this product again for our backyard garden. Very pleased!
I purchased the 10 piece set in the 40 inch height to keep my two Jack Russell dogs in my yard. I am extremely happy with the brand and the quality of this fence. I picked this product because it is rust resistant. The 40 inch height is waist high for me so it will keep my dogs safe and it would not be easy for someone to step over. The fence was extremely easy to put together. If you have extremely hard soil or hard clay I would recommend that you first make a hole with a piece of rebar or something else hard so that you don’t take the chance of bending one of your stakes. I put my fence up in the shape of an L because my house is on the other two sides. I chose this particular style of fence because I rent and I want to be able to remove the fence to take with me. Also with this style fence I can order additional sections so that I can make a larger area if I need to. My only complaint is that I am not able to buy additional metal stakes/post/rods if needed. I did bend one of my stakes because it went through a large tree root and it got bent with trying to remove it. I am sure that I can find something to replace it at the hardware store if needed. I would definitely recommend this fence and if I needed to I would buy another one to replace it with. Even being in the shape of an L the fence is very sturdy.
