This is Bronte's Wuthering Heights.
This film is not about modernizing a classic for the twenty-first century, with famous actors and beautiful costumes. It stays true to Bronte’s gothic novel and it was wonderfully done.
Excellent Versio
I have always loved this story. This version was really complete. Superb acting and beautiful camera work. They followed the book really closely. I only wish they would have showed a little more of the courtship of Edger and Catherine in the beginning though. I recommend watching with subtitles as some of the dialog is a little hard to follow in places. Overall one of the better versions of Wuthering Heights I have seen in recent years.
This is a really well thought out Independent Film version of the classic Emily Bronte classic “Wuthering Heights.”
I have seen almost every version of the film and I would say this is one of the better and more complete versions of the book I have seen.
What I loved:
The cinematography was beautiful and the acting was superb. I also liked the fact that the story ended with a more redeeming energy in spite of how inherently dark Wuthering Heights is. I also liked how isolated the director made both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange feel by only having the original characters from the story interacting between those two locations. It really gave a sense that this is their entire world and nothing outside it exists.
What I had issues with:
The sound mix of the film had some issues. There were scenes where there was obvious ADR that stood out and some scenes where the dialog was too quiet. This honestly didn’t bother me very much as I usually watch films with subtitles anyways so I do not miss anything.
Overall I give this film a great big 5 stars. This is a huge Epic story to tackle. Anyone. else who is a fan of this classic story should definitely add this version to their collection.
