Great buy.....
Arrived promptly, in good order. Worked straight away, no fuss. Very pleased after purchasing another brand (Australian owned) and it didn’t work, no real instructions. Super happy with my Verbatim Mobile CD/DVD Writer/Reader.
I’ve always worked on Macs and years ago Apple stopped incorporating a CD-ROM drive in their Mac Mini. I researched options for external drives. I wanted to transfer my vast CD collection into my hard drive and I enjoy creating playlists for my friends and burning them onto CD. I did some comparison shopping and tried several drives from several different companies. I like the Verbatim drive because it’s sturdy, performs well and works FAST. I found other drives from other manufacturers are made with very cheap plastic and they are VERY flimsy and break in simple daily use. That happened on more than one occasion. I returned to the Verbatim drive because it holds up much better, is reliable and gets the job done. In terms of quality, speed and cost – I give it A+.
Verbatim DVD Writer Bin begeistert.
Volle Punktzahl.
Does the Job Well, with a Few Hiccups
I recently bought the Verbatim 98938 External Slimline USB 2.0 CD/DVD printer to transfer some old CDs to my PC, and overall, it did a good job. The device is compact, lightweight, and very easy to use – just plug and play, no bulky power adapter needed. It also comes with Nero Burn & Archive Software, which was a nice bonus.
However, I did run into an issue where it couldn’t read some DVDs on the first try. It eventually worked, but it took a couple of attempts. Despite this minor hiccup, it handled most of my discs without any trouble.
If you’re looking for an affordable and portable CD/DVD reader, I recommend this product. Just be aware that it might take a little patience with some discs. I bought the USB 2.0 version, and it’s a solid choice for basic needs. 4/5 stars!
I originally gave this drive a poor review, because it did not write Dual Layer discs. It turns out that it was the brand of discs that was the problem. I purchased Kodak DL media, and it did not work with this drive–or the external LG drive I bought last year. (The Kodak discs do, however, work with my internal drive.)
I decided to try another brand of discs, although I was skeptical that a different brand would provide different results. Since this is a Verbatim drive, I figured it makes sense to try Verbatim discs. So, I ordered Verbatim DL discs.
I tested a couple of the Verbatim discs out, and each one burned properly and completely. I then tried out the discs on the LG, with the same results: Success.
(I will admit, though, that I did not use the included Nero software to burn these discs. I used Burn Aware. I did burn a few data and audio discs with Nero, with no issues. I will try burning some DL discs with Nero.) I did not bother testing these discs out with my internal drive.
As of this writing, I have not tested this drive’s M-DISC support. However, I am confident they’ll work properly. So, considering the problems were the result of discs and not the drive, I will revise my review in favor of this drive.
As for the included software: Nero is a reliable and robust burning software that has been around for years. I did not expect to get the complete version. I was expecting Nero Express. There are tools that are NOT included, but the most essential component–CD/DVD burning software–is included. That makes this purchase a solid investment.
Works fine with windows 11, I have played a couple movies with the vlc player and burned a dozen discs which came out fine. My only complaints are 1 the power cord, I had to trim a couple mm of rubber off the plug to get it to plug in properly to the dvd writer, also the cord is to short. 2 the tray door hits the housing when you try to close it. Minor problems but they could do better…
Nice external cd drive
Very easy to use. Connect it to my usb hub and I’m ready to go. Slim, lightweight and I can tuck it into a drawer in my desk so it’s always handy.
