I’m just now running it through its paces, so I’ll update my review at the end of the growing season. The composting bin is ceramic, arrived well-packaged, and safe and sound. We just set up some new raised beds, and I have installed the composting bin in my new tomato bed.
It is very sturdy and well made. I love the look of it, and it takes up a good amount of space, so I expect it to hold quite a bit of composting material. I will probably add worms to the bed, as the area we have set up has ground cover under the bed. I can’t comment on whether or not it attracts pests yet, but that will be part of my update later in the season.
I got the smaller size bin (even though it doesn’t seem small), so I am pleased with the value for the money. At this price, I might just look into additional composters in the other beds.

This underground worm composter is a neat idea and works well for turning small amounts of kitchen scraps into nutrients right where your plants can use them. It’s easy to install, sturdy enough once it’s in the ground, and a nice option for beginners who want to try composting without committing to a large system. The only reason I’m giving it four stars is because it’s smaller than I expected. The 10-inch size fills up fairly quickly, so it’s better suited for raised beds, small gardens, or light kitchen waste rather than composting for a larger household. If you know what you’re getting size-wise, it’s an effective little composter that encourages healthy soil with very little maintenance.
This 10-inch in-ground worm composter is going to be a great add-on to my garden! The material quality is excellent, and my absolute favorite feature is that it isn’t made of cheap plastic. It feels very durable and built to withstand the outdoor elements. In-ground composting is so efficient because the worms do all the heavy lifting right in the soil. I can’t wait to see the results in my vegetable beds. Highly recommend for any gardener!
I had been putting any food scraps in the garbage disposal, but wanted to compost them if I could find something that was easy. Putting the food scraps on the open ground outside attached vermin such as rats and opossum that reside along the bayou near my house.
This terracotta below-ground composting bin seems to have solved that issue. It has a lid to avoid odors and keep out those pesky critters. It was easy to dig a hole in my flower bed to bury it with just the very top protruding above ground. The lid fits very well.
So far it has been working well, and I’m adding some food scraps to it a couple times a week. I’m looking forward to seeing the results of this fertilizing the surrounding flowers.
I checked around to see the costs of other underground composting devices. The ones which were less expensive were composed of plastic where critters would most often eat through the outside and effectively destroy the plastic. So far this one has kept the critters out and is working well to attract the worms as intended.
I think this is a very good value, and have ordered another to fertilize a wider area.
I’m excited to use this. I recently emptied a raised garden (so I can move it) and transfered the contents to another raised bed. As I moved the dirt, I started finding lots of worms had taken up residence. After I got everything moved to the new garden bed, I was already seeing those worms moving around, exploring. I transplanted some plants into the garden and then situated the worm composter amongst the plants. Since I already save our egg shells, coffee and tea grounds, I had a ready supply to fill the composter right away. The composter is made of unglazed terra cotta, so I poured water over it after I filled and put the lid in place. And then we had a full day and night of rain so that helped, too. There are holes all the way around so the worms can move easily in and out and there is air flow to regulate the humidity and heat from the decomposition process. The worms and natural decomposition of the organic waste adds compost that is full of nutrients to the soil. It’s a natural way to provide fertilizer for the plants. I like that this provides a benefitial way to use kitchen scraps. It’s compact enough to use in larger plant pots, raised gardens and flower beds to encourage worms to aid in adding compost to your soil for healthy plants. I expect that as long as I take care not to hit it with gardening tools, this will last a long time and keep aiding in building healthy soil.
