Perfect for Underwear, Socks, and "In a Pinch" Outfits
I initially got this portable washing machine to wash kitchen microfibre towels since I don’t have an en-suite washer and I don’t feel comfortable washing kitchen towels in a shared washing machine that never gets cleaned (I do clean it before washing my clothes and do an empty cycle with bleach, but that’s besides the point). I already have a self-standing drying rack, so all I needed was a mini washing machine. Well, I finally got one (yay), but my plans changed when I realized that this mini machine has a lot more capacity than I thought. I’m not saying it can do a full load, but it can definitely wash an entire outfit, which is great since I sometimes don’t get a chance to do laundry during the weekend and then I’m uncomfortable at work wearing the clothes I keep in the back of my closet and that I never wear unless I don’t have any clean laundry. It is perfect for underwear, socks, t-shirts and lightweight pants.
While it does require some effort to drain the water and refill it for the rinse cycle, and then again to spin the clothes to extract some of the excess moisture, the machine still does most of the work. You’re not scrubbing, you’re not cranking the handle of a well-known alternative laundry machine that I won’t mention here, you’re just draining the water and making sure the clothes don’t have any soap residue left behind and that the clothes aren’t dripping wet once they’re clean.
As for the operation of the machine, I would do a 10 min wash, a 10 min rinse and a 10 minute spin cycle to get as close as possible to an actual washing machine, but I will experiment more and maybe I’ll update this if I run into issues or have any tips.
That being said, aesthetically, there are a few things I don’t love. I don’t really like the blue light that illuminates the base of the washer, and the interface where the buttons are is super basic. I also don’t care for the metallic trims that are actually just plastic, the lid of this machine has that. But none of that is really important, I’m just saying that if I had a choice, I would change those things.
Overall, this little machine gives me some peace of mind when it comes to having clean clothes in a pinch. I definitely overthink the whole laundry thing, so I’m hoping this also helps me overcome that one small load at a time.
